Hey y'all, so recently Dailymotion announced changes that mean that any video that hasn't been watched in a year will be completely deleted from the platform. This puts a lot of old StarCraft VODs at risk of being lost forever.

So I'm here to ask the people of TL to come together in saving some of the matches on Dailymotion so they can be preserved. This channel (https://www.dailymotion.com/Epsil0n) should have their videos saved by any archive enthusiasts who have the hard drive space. This is the only major channel I've found, but there are also individual bits and pieces uploaded, like a ton of French casts of 2012 MLGs.

A lot of these VODs are from 2011/2012ish, aka the golden years, making them even more precious to preserve IMO.

For instance, this match - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmhzdw

Game 2 is lowkey one of the most exciting games ever, because some random Diamond league player deadass almost beat Puzzle. There's one moment where you think he's actually done it, the casters and the crowd going wild. Then they cut to Puzzle's stalkers in his base and there's an audible groan of disappointment from the crowd. Absolute peak eSports. The real shit. And for a decade Dailymotion has been the only place to watch it.

There's a lot of GSL VODs on there too, but those are on YouTube, and have been safely preserved already thanks to StarCraft VODS (https://starcraftvods.com/downloads), which is also an amazing resource, but it puts complete tournaments up for download, and there are a lot of holes in these earlier MLGs and NASL tournaments so they sort of snuck through the cracks and are currently at serious risk.

Archival is so important to this game, and there have been great efforts made in preserving Brood War VODs so I know we can keep these VODs safe too. I'll do what I can, but I'm also only one guy and my hard drive is able to fail just as easily as anybody else's, though I do take my own steps to back them up. The more people have these saved, the better.

Thanks for bringing this to the community's attention. Looking at the channel's info it seems Epsil0n has an active Youtube channel, and a number of SC2 events are uploaded there, https://www.youtube.com/@Epsil0n/playlists - these are:

Blizzcon 2011 / GSL Sept 2011 finals
PTSL2 Finals
US Bnet Invitational 2011
MLG 2011 Columbus
EG MSI Master Cup 2010
DH 2010
MLG 2010 Dallas
Blizzcon 2010

So these could be disregarded at a push. I'm busy with real life stuff and my own archival efforts at the moment but will have a think on what I can do to help.

That game was super fun, man for the days of crazy big old brackets. Always wondered why Puzzle never really developed as a player

I might be able to help. I have an acquaintance who is searching for and archiving old vods from NASL Seasons 1 & 2.

I'll give him a buzz this week and see if can start pulling at least the NASL vods from Dailymotion. Then we'll see. Once uploaded I might start adding them back into SC2 Esports Anthology. No promises though.

The bad news is that StarCraft VODS (https://starcraftvods.com/downloads) will almost certainly never be updated again for reasons I won't get into.

VODs from the early stages of SC2 remain among the best recorded moments in StarCraft 2 history. The amount of content at risk of being lost is shocking because there exists no backup system. I fully support safe preservation of these outstanding golden-aged games since they represent irreplaceable history. I will make an effort to collect these materials when possible although more individuals backing the preservation work improves our retention capabilities.

Since this thread is up and kind of in the same vein:

Twitch has announced that a streamer can only save up to 100 hours of VoDs (not counting "Past Broadcasts", meaning those that go away after 3 months anyway). Are there any big Twitch VoD archives this might affect?

Without actually checking yet, yes, absolutely. A lot of tournaments.

https://www.twitch.tv/mlgsc2/videos - VODs from the MLG Fall Championship 2012 are the most important thing at risk here, they don't seem to be on YouTube.

https://www.twitch.tv/nasltv/videos - Lots of junk from NASL but some qualifiers and stuff are also on here.

https://www.twitch.tv/esl_sc2/videos - These are all obviously going bye bye but most of these are crossposted to YouTube so probably not a huge concern?
