$20, not a bad deal for three months, also being in an opposite timezone the chances are very high that I'll need the VODs.
Already purchased!
Edit. p.s.
I don't really understand how anyone who has signed up to a GSL pass, and browses TL, wouldn't also get this... I mean it's basically:
* GSL Code S-quality Korean players, but with * More foreigners (always the TL favorites in the GSL), * 5 nights per week = way more games * Not lock-stepped to the needs of korean commentators * Cast from replays but still a live broadcast, so less downtime (think TSL) * Cheaper!
Honestly I feel that anyone who seriously follows the community will be signing up or will be planning to watch them all live. Complaining about sponsor commercials is ridiculous. It won't be any worse than Tastosis the coke-drinking archon!
I'm just hoping they some form of entry-hook to grab new people too, who won't watch a live stream (there's no way I can make that appealing to my random friends here. I don't know what time the broadcasts will be but I can almost guarantee neither of them will be ideal for us down here
GSL have their "you can watch set 1 of every match" which seems to work pretty well, not sure what the league-format equivalent will be. It will have to be able to tell a story to grab people.

I'm actually willing to pay the $5 to wait and see what people think about the stream first.
|
I will probably wait until it looks real then I will pay after it proves itself. I have every intention of buying a 3 month pass though, and I hope that it works out as good or better than GOM!

My advice for those looking for events to watch and or pay for.
MLG - Never At least not until they get their act together on EVERYTHING not just streaming issues. Lack of games. Decent production value until the guys who control the stream's view cut things off.
GSL - Always The games are about 60-40 with 60% being good games to watch. Production value is good. The only issue I have are the current Code A casters which may change the longer they're there, but between the Fake Exitement, Accent (no offense), and two casters who aren't VERY knowledgeable about the game it can make me mute my stream sometimes.
NASL - Probably Always if first night is good. Every game will have a VOD which is very good, but so far I'm not terribly happy with the thought that InControl and Gretorp may be casters. It really is up to the casters. Incontrol and Gretorp probably could get there with Gretorp needing a lot more work than InControl. The issues in latency might be a problem, but I doubt it, we all played on worse lag on battle.net no problems.
Any short GSL season GSTL or WC - Probably not. Seems like a cool event, but for the money I'd rather just attempt to catch a few games live rather than pay for a season that lasts what 7 days?
Edit: Other Tournaments Solely depends on the person buying it. If you like the players and stream quality you might be tempted, my issue is that they're usually 2-3 day events which doesn't usually make it worth the money.

I agree Gretorp and INcontrol casting turns me right off. Why not get some tried and tested casters in there like Husky, Artosis, Tasteless - people who are professionals, not nublings like these guys.
I think these nub commentators will really detract from the professionalism of the NASL game. ITS NOT ENOUGH TO KNOW THE GAME WELL, you have to know how to commentate properly.
Who knows though, perhaps I will be wrong and these guys will be the breakout commentating success story of the year.....but I doubt it

Not everyone can fit casting into their schedule for a long and rigorous schedule that NASL requires, and it's been said a couple times that it's not always going to be Gretorp and iNcontroL

Before MLG I would absolutely not pay 25 bucks for one, but now.. I am definitely considering it.

after MLG Dallas, there's no way im pre-subscribing to anything other than another GSL season. after MLG Dallas, there's no way im paying anything if there are still commercials involved.
i'm sorry NASL, but GSL set a really high bar, and MLG made me really hate advertisements aimed at "American gamers."
if Day 1 is smooth, and the ads aren't for Hot Pockets and Old Spice, i'll buy a ticket.

The fact MLG has a "HD" service, which isn't even HD (480p does not a HD make), and then still can't deliver (not to mention has ads on the paid stream, the what?), gives me huge pause when considering a brand new tournament, that has never organized anything like this before (At least MLG has done other games, and has done a very tournaments last year also).
They say the stream is 1080p, and the fact they are using Justin.tv means that this might might be possible since, after all, all Justin.tv does is stream video. However many people outside of USA (and I'm sure people inside USA) have had plenty of problems with latency to Justin.tv, and this isn't even with massive crowds for a tournament. If justin.tv has bring their game, and can actually bring 720p+ streams to the world, it would be amazing, the "HQ" streams of MLG and GSL are pathetic, you can't even properly read the food counts or anything.
Overall I think the NASL has tons of potential, if it meets that potential, it will be worth $25 EASILY. However, given what we have seen so far, that is: Poor quality show match with tons of issues, very poorly managed announcement where multiple representatives were saying conflicting things at once, the fact we still don't know when it starts; I'm not sure people can be expected to have high hopes, especially for the first season.
I hope NASL does very well, they have the money, I just hope they can bring the talent together to actually make this what it has the potential to be. Until then, there is so much free content alongside GSL, I really don't have the patience for another MLG Dallas experience while they get their act together.

I think I will pay once everything is more established. The lineup is good, the production value should be good,i want to support esports and it is much more entertainment per dollar than most things.
The quality of the casting may be a deciding factor in the long run. There is a reason that pro sports respect their casters so much, televised events would be much worse without them.
|
wish they had a decent paying option instead of paying with credit card...
|
I think I'll wait and watch a few games live before I pass judgement.
If it can seriously compete with GSL in terms of quality I'll give buying a pass some consideration.
Edit: Also, they need to add a PayPal option. I'm paranoid when it comes to entering in my credit card info on the Internet.
|
To the people who are skeptical about the stream quality/reliability: It's going through justin.tv, and if you get the pass it automatically allows you to choose the stream bandwidth. They're not trying to be ambitious and use their own player like MLG is doing (and failing miserably at)
Also, $20/$25 for 3 months of entertainment is a great deal, considering the caliber of players they have.
|
After the for me very dissapointing MLG matches im somewhat undecided about the quality of the NASL games and if it will be worth the money to watch it.

You can't be serious?
First of all, have you watched the GSTL:s? If you'd had you would have seen the community more or less screaming in one voice:
MORE TEAMLEAGUES PLEASE.
The teamleagues have been by far the most exciting games. Both GSTL 1 and 2 were awesome and the showmatch between World vs Korea was awesome.
Second of all, it's not like GOM charges the same price for the short events like they do for the ordinary GSL. It's 5 freakin bucks and WC was for free

The GSTL is amazing if you like the Team League format, and GSTL seasons cost 5$, thats nothing. The GSL WC stuff cost literally nothing, both HQ and VODs are free. The rest I agree with.
As for NASL, I will buy the first season when the date is announced and final since the time zone difference probably means I need to watch the VODs, and if you get access to highlights, analysis and other cool stuff then its even better. If the production value is high, which it most certainly will be, I'm gonna buy every season.
Edit: I don't get how MLG's problems is any indication that NASL will fail...

* sparse representation of the top Koreans (this is not the fault of the NASL, only few Korean teams bothered to apply and among them they did chose the best or most well-known) * some top non-Koreans not invited due to "apparant" visa issues ("apparent" because there was at least one of them who claimed that he was never asked and that visa would be no issue) * plenty of non-Koreans picked with zero accomplishments
These are the three reasons why I won't buy a ticket. I will buy the future seasons when the less-skilled players have been replaced.

anyways i already bought mine. so its no april fools. unless its an april fools thats steals $$$.
You bought a pass and you don't know that all of the best koreans will be playing?

So is there no way to buy a pass without a credit card?
|
this is a bit sad, i would really like to pay that $20 (heck even the $25!) but it seems that i can't do it via paypal... i pay for all online stuff via paypal >.< wish NASL could do something about this
