Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
if you are concerned about shared base maps for every single team game, please take a look at: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=197646. it is getting bumped down faster than i hoped! FA this is something you probably have something to say about too.
I was hoping to host a tournament within the next few months for some of the active players around my area, and I sent out an email to blizzard in regards to and rules or regulations that they observe with tournament hosting. As of yet I haven't gotten a response. I was just wondering, since team liquid hosts so many successful sponsored tournaments, if you have any information on what the blizzard guidelines/rules are around tournament hosting. Is there a fee that I have to pay to blizzard? Do I have to get Blizzards permission or send them a proposal? If there is a sponsored prize pool ($10,000 Canadian Dollars in my case) must I give blizzard a portion?
Noticing a lot of disconnect grief among friends in online tournies. I was wondering if there isn't an easy fix for the disconnect problem that Blizzard could implement. As there's one player still in the game, why not just have game information saved and the option to load saved multiplayer games? Disconnects are a large enough problem in competition (there was another one recently in GSL code A), I would expect it would be in the community's best interest to find a fix.
The ability to save + load multiplayer games would also be excellent for training/coaching, especially if you were able to load at any point in the game (like a replay but you could choose to jump in and play at any given point).
Is this feasible? Would it be beneficial? Thoughts?
I've been thinking about this for awhile, searched, and found nothing.
What does Blizzard plan to use as portraits/icons for the next two expansions..? They've used about almost every possible unit per race, and a few 'heros'. It would be stupid to see repeats/or half-assed "infested x" icons..

Blizzard doesn't get a portion.. They're only there for the 'okay' - that is, if, your tournament is pay-to-enter. Otherwise you're fine.

They'll probably just add portraits of any new characters or units that they include in the games. Remember they're just going to be expansion packs, not entirely new games.
will the guy who wins code A this season automatically get code S because idra withdrew and they can pick idra for their group and get a auto win vs him?
Why do zerg players use the Detnonate button on their burrowed Banelings instead of telling them to unburrow? Isn't it smarter to tell your banelings to unburrow and either blow up instantly like Detnonate would, but with the added bonus of chasing down the few remaining units left over cause they're now unburrowed?

I believe its because of the delay it takes to unburrow, at least that how i see it

If someone could reply to this on here or pm me with the solution it would be much appreciated.
Click "Profile", scroll all the way down, the 3rd form the bottom should be "your current mood", then click "click here to change". enable the mood display, then choose one of the mood shown below.

I believe Zenio will be treated as a n3 for the group, winner of Code A will not get automatic qualification to Code S.

Calling all Chicagoland Sc2 Players. I am seeing who is interested in attending a tournament. Upon gathering the information, I can host a tournament, find accommodation, and gather sponsors. I just need interest and from there I can move forward with this plan. Thank you guys, feel free to PM me.
I have a question - Did motherships use to fire any gold colored beams? I thought I remembered them firing blue and gold beams at the same time (rather than just blue).

Its an established eSport field in South Korea with plenty of leagues and tournaments going on. Players have decent salaries so there's no reason for them to switch. Read this one: http://i.imgur.com/GrbLj.jpg
Has the veto function changed recently? I vetoed Backwater Gulch, and got a game on it. When I checked to make sure I had actually vetoed it, I noticed that the veto menu says "makes this map less likely to be chosen for play." I thought it completely removed it, as I had maps like Kulas Ravine and Steppes of War vetoed, and don't remember drawing them.

As far as I've noticed, It has always been like that since release, and that what it does is interferes with the matchmaking system - It will lower the priority of matchups on this map. As an example, if someone with your EXACT MMR was available but only on this map (they'd veto'd all the others - I know this is not possible, I'm simplifying) but someone with a slightly higher or lower MMR was available on one of the maps you hadn't vetoed, then they would select the person with a slightly different MMR as the map is preferred by you. This preference is 'weighted' against the other factors in the matchmaking system (such as relative MMR and other maps available) to help decide your matchup.
A final note to consider is that from what I've experienced, your previous matches are not taken into consideration when your next map is being chosen. However, I'd have to sit down and blast through a lot of games to actually find out if this is true - I need to start remembering to turn sc2gears on before I start SC2 so I can gather this kind of data.

yea true but in wc3 there were extremely different icons with the expansion
maybe they will change the tiers so you get less icons per amount of wins

actually no thats not it, its because when the banelings unburrow they push the units above them out of the way making large holes thus greatly dimishing the amount of splash from the banes.

On March 03 2011 17:01 CaptainCharisma wrote: Are those "power rankings" on the right related to SC1? Why do people still play SC1 when SC2 is out?
Because SC1 still has a huge art in it, probably more then SC2 which is more tied to gimmicks rather then perfecting your macro/micro (yes bring the flame on). I've played SC1 for 12 years but I want to focus on SC2 because it's new and much simpler which is something an old gamer like me need now.
My questions: Why haven't I been able to find any of the MOTM on the EU server?
Question 2: How do you micro marines when kiting, is it really just move command + attack?
Question 3: In SC1 there was a huge depth on how to micro mutas, move them and hold position to spray etc, but in SC2 im not getting that feeling. The only micro avaliable is magic box and possibly shift + A on various targets....
Hi I'm playing zerg and has a problem with my rally points for my hatcheries. I put all my hatcheries on 4 but occasionally I find my rally points for drones and army suddenly disappear. I know it's probably something I'm doing wrong but I can't really figure it what, so if someone have had a similar problem and know what caused it, please share.
Could it be that I have 4 marked and double click a unit that then dies? This could be it perhaps but I'm not sure why I would do that so often.
I don't have that problem, you can select all your hatcheries to one hot key, click the orange line on minerals (all hatch to one field or seperate fields), and the white one to the ground. Perhaps you have your armies on 1-3 and by mistake click ctrl + 4 on your units? I keep my hatcheries on 7-0

It's because either you rallied your units to a unit that died, or because you right-clicked an hatchery. There is no fix for that btw, but i find it useful.

According to the NASL thread, a team is defined as an entity which provides sponsorship, which Duckload does. White-Ra is allowed to play.

There are plenty of women that play and watch SC2. The issue is here is that people think that sort of thing matters, when in reality, it doesn't.
Got a question. I don't play terran, and I suck at it, but why don't terran just add Macro Orbitalcenters, like Zerg adds Macro Hatch. Wouldn't 2-3 Mules make up the cost of the OC, and make you able to get minerals faster-> more production facilities-> More Marines, and faster restocking of Units.

It's a reasonable assumption, but definitely not a guaranteed implication. Phoenixes can still be useful for scouting if you have observers because they're so much faster, and also more disposable (especially if your opponent has a lot of detection).
On March 06 2011 05:25 Psyclon wrote: Is it reasonable to think that a protoss sending a hallucinated phoenix DOES NOT have a robotics facility?
hes probably expanding, beyond that its hard to say. but most tend to favour the robo as the first tech option because they need the detection, units, and scouting of a robo.
watching a ROOT stream and heard them talking about how the watch towers on Crossfire let you see every attack path, and siege tanks on those towers are really good.
Would Crossfire be better if those watch towers were removed and players had to rely on their own spotting ability?

What's the optimal way to use corruption with corruptors in an engagement? As in, move them into battle, corrupt all the colossus, then focus fire each one down. What's the best way to queue up commands? Or should I corrupt one colossus, focus it down, then corrupt another etc and do it all individually?

I remember reading somewhere that they cant because of government restrictions or something of the sort. But theyre all forced to use IE 6(?) . Who knows........maybe with the best internet connection IE could be a good browser.........
I have a bit of an interesting idea to trick terrans late game into making vikings to counter Brood Lords when you arent making any(for ZvT only or a toss who has stargates maybe) First I have horrible apm and mechanics and Im only bronze league, I expect criticism and situational questions that I will not be able to answer. Right as my greater spire starts it gets scanned, and that sucks, I know at this point he has at least one reactored starport and another without/possibly with a reactor. I was a bit frustrated b/c in the past he always gets enough vikings before I can really deal any major damage with my Broods when he scouts them, unless Im really far ahead. Then I got a fantastic idea. I went ahead and made 4 corrupters. I immediately started on ultras without making any broods. I left a few o lords with my corrupters and put them in between my 4th base and my natural with my building roach ling army and waited. I see a few stimmed marines running up my creep into my base and I immediately make overseers with the o lords in my corrupter group. Im sorry, but unless you are really paying attention or are on ultra settings, you will not notice the difference between an overseer and brood morphing unless you click on it. They are very minute, Overseer has a glowing red bump on the top, broods have small tentacles poking out thier sides. not very noticeable at a glance I kill off the scouting marines and cancel the overseers, at my skill level and this point in the game the gas/min loss was irrelevant. What happens next was beautiful. Next engagement he has 9-10 vikings with his bio tank and I have 7-8 ultras with more on the way pushing across the map with roach lings and banes. I rolled him in the next push as his vikings and 4 he had queued float around helplessly Our conversation after the game. I'm relatively new to SC2 and I have a Protoss hotkey question. Long story short, whenever I see high level P play, whether it be GSL or in replays, everyone puts all of their nexuses onto a single hotkey. Is this to make chrono-ing easier, and save on wasteful actions? I had been putting my nexuses on different hotkeys originally, because I thought it was important to be able to choose to make probes at a certain expansion (i.e. 3rd expansion) but not necessarily another, but this seems wrong based on everything I've seen. I guess I just wanted some confirmation/insight from veteran players who have a deep understanding of optimal hotkey setups/efficiency. Thanks.

Yes, it might be important to switch to a certain base to make probes at a certain expansion, but the problem is sort of solved by maynarding your workers to new expansions. That way, you evenly distribute the saturation from the start and make workers at all three nexus' at the same time. Also, for chrono-boosting purposes, it is a lot more convenient to hotkey all your nexus' to one control group. Also, once you reach your third, you start worrying about having too many workers. When you have your third up, you should be approaching the 65-75 worker mark and start to cease production of workers.
In BW each race had a 'siege' type unit, a slow moving or not moving at all unit that you could use to halt all enemy advance (most of the time), the Reaver, the Siege Tank, and the Lurker. Now in sc2 Terran still has the tank, Protoss got the Collosus (which if replaced by the Reaver imo would be more balanced) and Zerg have... nothing.

the Zerg players need more advantage xDD. Very good joke
I dont know if you are giving direct replys or not. But what do you think of 1.3?
More specifically, the Terran nerfs... longer stim and more build time for bunkers.
Also, what do you think about the recent dominance of Protoss? They have amazing composition now, phoenix harass and seem to be dominating the tournaments.
The void and collossi seem to be just wiping the floor with zerg.
And the Stalker, collossi, and charged zeolot composition seems to beat terran almost every time.
Personally I dont think 1.3 addresses any of these things. Or perhaps they dont feel it is a problem. Although it will start to get reflected in the evolving meta game and trickle down to the rest of the server once the toss builds are mastered.
The problem in both instances seem to be the collossi. 3 or 4 collossi with their area damage is just to much. For terran, the problem seems to be the marauder and the fact that they dont have the area abilities that toss have as they only hit one unit at a time. And the charged zealots close distance on the tanks really fast. And then there is psistorm which is salt in the wound.
I see even common toss players getting further in tournaments now, and players like MVP getting taken out with the same builds by people like ACE and squirtle who were only very good over the last 2 GSLS.
Also the bigger maps now favor late game, which also favor the toss.
And what about Sanzenith, that guy was on the verge of getting thrown out of the GSL, now even him to is cleaning up everybody.
Overall, I think the toss have their play finally figured out, and have the most tools to use out of everybody. Something has to be done to bring down their overall area abilities down a notch.
I predict over the next two months that toss will continue to dominate and these whispers of discontent will start escalating into a wide spread issue that will have to be addressed.

Could it be that I have 4 marked and double click a unit that then dies? This could be it perhaps but I'm not sure why I would do that so often.
It's because either you rallied your units to a unit that died, or because you right-clicked an hatchery. There is no fix for that btw, but i find it useful.
Thanks! When I think of when it usually happens I believe your second options seems like a likely suspect. Knowing what it is makes it much easier to prevent.

This has been discussed often. Below is a thread that has information and quite a few links you could read, or use the search function.
I just found that guy on sc2ranks, that calls himself Luxury. Its very likely a fake, but there is a possibility that he is the real one. He is top 100 in the world. Luxury could play Starcraft 2 professionaly, because there is no Kespa that could prevent him from doing so. Also he is still young, so why not? What do you guys think?
Somewhere on TL.NET is a best-of thread full of replays to download for SC2, with descriptions of why the replays are so awesome. I saw it last week but now I can't find it, and I can't remember anything noteworthy about the thread title to search for it. Does anyone have the link to it? It's probably someplace real obvious, but I swear I've looked all over for it with no luck. It's not the generic replay thread; it was a list of really good replays worth watching.

I may not be the best toss as of yet to answer your question, but when ever i make an expo i replace the hotkey of my first nexus with that of my new one.
A question which does not deserves its own thread: I got 3 templars and storm with 2 of them. If I now choose to make an archon, does it use the 2 templars which just stormed (so I got one storm left) or is it kind of random-ish (I may end up without a third storm). I don't have the micro to control the templars individually and therefor place pretty much all of them in one controlgroup.

The morphing order is not based on their Energy. So, you have to do it manually, or just hope that the right ones are morphed.
Hey guys, I'm a low-master Terran, around 2100 points.
I don't really like to do 1-base play too much and would rather do a build that fast expands. Can someone give me some "standard" build orders for every match-up that I can use? I know that I should have a lot of builds in my repertoire, however I feel like I'm still essentially a noob and need builds to help me focus on my mechanics.

When I roll Protoss, I always hotkey ALL the Nexi under one hotkey, and rally them to their adjacent mineral patches. If they're all under the hotkey 4 for instance, you can just push 4 and then E (2 times for 2 Nexi, 3 for 3 Nexi etc) to get them to all produce probes.
And yes, it makes chronoboosting WAY easier. If you want to switch between the different bases, just tap the Nexi hotkey you assign, and then tap backspace to cycle the view.
Not a pro by any means, but this is how I play and it works pretty well.

It's not about "going back to another game" or that SC2 is a "different game", it's about what would be the best to do for balance. I'm not saying we should do what he proposed as I didn't play BW myself and I don't know how it was but your attitude doesn't really contribute to anything right now....
Personally I think we should see how it turns out after this patch, we still have alot of new BOs and tactics in this game to learn I think.

So a guy I used to play team games with messaged me last night to inform me he was placed into Masters (in 1v1).
I was really disappointed. I'm 100% certain I'm miles above this guy skill-wise, then I pulled up his match history and was amazed at how many games he had played in two days so I went through and glanced at his build orders. 2 gate zealot rushes and 4 gates. That's it. Nothing else! I was kind of disgusted, maybe I'm just subconsciously jealous or something. I'm pushing for Masters but I can only average 1-3 games per day throughout the week. Currently 85-52 getting matched with 3100+ Diamond players so hopefully soon ya?
I've been looking into making a G15 applet for Starcraft to display various things, such as APM, Game Time, Etc.
The thing I'm worried about the most is the cheating factor of things. I don't believe it'd be an issue to show you your APM average / current in real time, but certain things could be considered cheating. There is a fine line between "informative" and cheating when it comes to things like these. I've got a pretty accurate method of getting some of these things, and putting them on the G15 display (all of which I've been doing offline with a test machine, as to not spoil my Battel.net profile), but I wanted the opinion of others on what would be OK to put on the display, and what would be over the line.
For example, in my opinion, showing you your APM would be OK, but showing you your worker count, or your current income rate would not be. Showing you the game time would be fine as well, but showing you an army size in resources would not be. Suggestions welcome.
How does one find a sponsor for a local SC2 tournament (Chicago in my case, which hasn't had a tournament yet)? The LAN center that we found wants 50% of the sign-up fee of $15, and the rest will go to the prizes (not many prizes left this way). I don't blame them, they need to make money, but it wouldn't be a problem if we had some sponsors.
Why would a sponsor give you money, what's in it for them? My tournament will be about 15-20 people, no stream, so I really don't know what to say in order to get sponsors. PM me so your message doesn't get lost in this thread.
I've been wondering if Overlord drops/Queen creep tumor would be a good way to spread creep around the map.
Overlord speeds/drops are already being researched for Baneling drops. Why not drop queen. Overloards and drop creep on an area of the map. Queen unloads and tumors the creep and go on from there.

IMO once that stuffs researched creep should be pushed out pretty far already unless your opponent has been keeping it down all game. If you're talking about dropping creep then a tumor on like your opponents 4th base or something, then I don't know if it'd be worth it. I guess it'd be annoying and delay the expansion another 10-25 seconds but meh. Go for it, see what you can do

There are quite a few threds about it. Just search for ladder or MMR or such here at the TL forums. I alos think you will find some good articles if you google it as well.
I have another question though: When microing (marines/roaches etc), how do you do it usually? In the streaming and replays I mostly see players useing move and attack command, but I feel it is alot easier to just use the move + stop command. Is there any delay disadvantage by micriong this way? I know your units wont be gouped together as nicely, but still alot easier imo.

Sure. Especially if you're ready to move your army to that location. Engaging on creep is ALWAYS preferable as Zerg. The more creep you have, the better, and as I always say "It's never a good thing when you start to see creep crawling into your base." Talking of course about Terran/Protoss players. Even in ZvZ, I spread creep into my opponents existing creep, as most other players won't notice it, and it gives you vision directly into them. Just because your opponent is Zerg doesn't mean you should just stop at connecting your creep highways. Remember, you spread creep not only for your army to move on, but also for vision.
Well, I thought I'd create a topic for this, but then, it sounds kinda like a silly topic and besides it might have been posted before (tho I searched and found nothing).
So.... What do you guys think of how, when you send your scout into the main of your opponent and he has walled in early, the scout doesn't even see the buildings up his ramp, but it apparently already knows about them on the way and gets kinda stuck trying to get as close as it can to the place you sent it to (like near a ledge on the side of his base....).
I know it sounds unimportant, but it always bothers me, just seems wrong, you know?
I mean, your units should see what you see, so the only path the scout should take to the other guy's base is through the ramp, until the unit (and therefore yourself) has actually seen the wall...
Any thoughts? Should be fixed? Should I have made a topic for this??
(edit: fixed some typos, sorry I didn't review earlier)

I always wondered about that too... I actually didn't really think about dropping the Queens with OLs, just thought of taking advantage of the OL's Generate Creep skill a bit to spread the tumors faster... I don't play Zerg though, but I think at times that would be quite doable and useful...
One thing I'm 100% sure is that queens are waay underused, it's a tier 1 caster (transfusion, anyone? pretty useful), for 150 minerals, the only tier 1 anti-air for zerg, with range 7 against ground units, it's pretty beefy at 150 hp, and doesn't use larvae! One queen per hatch, maybe one more to spread creep and that's that?! Really, zergs? Really??
I had a bit of a peculiar idea recently, and wanted to air it out here instead of starting a thread in case it's old news or infeasible or whatever.
The basic idea is that you can deny mining on 1 of your opponent's mineral patches with your scouting worker. Do this by starting to mine whenever one of your opponent's workers is about to mine from that patch (so that worker bounces off that patch and loses mining time) and then stop your worker before it actually picks up minerals. Repeat this process, so your worker can "occupy" an opponent's mineral patch almost constantly.
I haven't done any tests or compared mineral counts doing/not doing this. I'm just wondering -- is this an old idea, too apm-intensive, too insignificant of an advantage, infeasible for some other reason, etc?

Cant remember which pro (think it was one of the Terran players..?) keep doing this, but I am pretty sure Day[9] mentions it in one of his vids. So not a new idea, just pretty APM demaning I guess.
"All" PvsP GSL games are ~10 min... I believe its because of warp-in, if you get an advantage and can warp into enemys base its over. Luckily i know how to fix this.
In order to create a defenders advantage, make warp-in dependant on distance to warpgate. So if you warp into/close to enemys base, it takes 2x the time.

I've been thinking about this for a while. What do you think about adding a feature in ladder where you can earn points to be able to customize how your units looked like. They would do the same things but you could make them look different. If you guys play tekken 5 and the succeeding ones, you know what I'm talking about. You can dress up which ever character you're using by spending money 'earned' from matches. It would be awesome if blizzard added a feature like that. It would make laddering so much more rewarding (by being able to add some customizations to your unit designs) and it would give more prestige to good players because of awesome looking units. What do you guys think? Is this even possible to do?
I just looked on sc2reps and saw some TheSTC replays, is he back playing or was this just him getting a little time off from the army and playing a few games?
Is anyone else getting tired from playing the new ladder games? I don't mind playing a 20-30-40 min ladder game, perhaps once (and at most twice a night), but it's getting really tiring to play 3+ games a night with these new macro-oriented maps.
Playing a macro game as a T, although rewarding, drains alot of energy, because you need to be constantly trading armies and harassing to reduce the protoss deathball and to stop the zerg macro.

If you have a Robo Bay up vs Zerg and aren't:
a) Using it to get Colossus range or b) Saving the gas for Colossi or c) Tech-switching to something else with the gas
then you are probable maxed and bored, Bronze or playing AI on Very Easy.

You can, and it's a good tactic to have, but it's problematic. For one, a Terran player at a decent level will poke at the edge of your creep, potentially taking your tumor and an overlord. But mostly, it's because it takes more than 1 overlord (w/o speed upgrade) to do this. The overlord moves too slowly from spot to spot. Generally if you see this, it's a zerg player making a "bridge" of creep w/ 4-5 overlords and sending 1 new tumor down it's path to fill it in. Also, even most pros are pretty lazily or careless w/ their tumors.

Yeah, I agree Ashok. The new maps certainly make it harder to actually kill anyone, great for tournaments but hard to squeeze in a few sneaky games before bed or whatever. Maybe after the patch you could wait ~12 mins for the protoss deathball to kill you ^^

IMO, the idea that drop ships be faster than attack units is "a joke." The idea of a drop is to largely catch your opponent out of position, and cause a disproportionate amount of damage for your investment. If the opponent can get into position (IE have mutas in the area of your prism as you leave) then you SHOULD lose the investment. All races have an air unit that can catch any races drop unit.

This is by no means, verified/proven (it may have even been dismissed as inaccurate) but you can check the math equation on http://sc2mmr.blogspot.com/2011/02/sc2mmr-in-progress.html to get an idea on where you are. Do the first equation to get your Rank Point differential, then use that in the 2nd equation to get the approximate # of games you need to play at your current rate to earn a promotion. IIRC, that author had a much more simplified opinion on how MMR is calculated. If you go by Excalibur and the others who help contribute to all his awesome threads, it's probably that your disconnects and long win streaks are causing you to have a high uncertainty. If the system is really as complex as some think, it's waiting until your math works out to have a better idea of just how good you are before you're promoted.

I say this as a mid-diamond Zerg who doesn't use corruptors all that often, but I corrupt all my targets at the start of the fight. Corruption lasts 30 seconds (I think) and most battles don't last nearly that long, especially if you're trying to snipe the colossi anyways. So I hold Shift + C, click all the colossi w/ the corruptor group, then shift + a them back to the nearest colossi so they start attacking as soon as the corruption is done.

I believe its because of the delay it takes to unburrow, at least that how i see it
actually no thats not it, its because when the banelings unburrow they push the units above them out of the way making large holes thus greatly dimishing the amount of splash from the banes.
Actually, I think it has much more to do with the speed of unburrowing. But either way, since the burrrowed detonation does just as much damage as unburrowed, there's really no reason NOT to detonate them (assuming the enemy is walking right over).

2) Right click (move) back away from the enemy just a small step, then hit stop or hold (S or H). Right click, stop, right click, stop. Same thing if you're trying to attack and move in towards an enemy as well.
3) I am by no means knowledgeable on BW, but there is a bit more muta micro than you're giving credit for. If you stack the mutas, you can kind of tease into the range of turrets without getting hit if you move the mutas back before the turret actually shoots. I don't know if that explanation makes any sense, but I've seen Idra do it a number of times. Either he's moving in and out of the range w/o getting hit, or by keeping them stacked, he prevents the spread that would move mutas into the range of a turret.

maybe on enormous maps where you won't scout it but if you see it go down you can just build a forge and cannon either the mineral line or the ramp and its usually GG. just make sure you don't sink too many resources into the pylons and cannons and make sure you have enough units to defend the one base roach ling all in that will come if the zerg stays in the game and can't get a hidden expo up. you also need to remember that they can nydus worm as well and keep pylons in important places in your base to get vision of this.
basically i would say it is risky for the zerg to do sometimes but if you cannot cannon it or make a sufficiently macro based response (i'm pretty sure that nexus first is viable against hatch first builds) then the risk will pay off and they will get their economic advantage and you cannot punish them as effectively for it.

maybe on enormous maps where you won't scout it but if you see it go down you can just build a forge and cannon either the mineral line or the ramp and its usually GG. just make sure you don't sink too many resources into the pylons and cannons and make sure you have enough units to defend the one base roach ling all in that will come if the zerg stays in the game and can't get a hidden expo up. you also need to remember that they can nydus worm as well and keep pylons in important places in your base to get vision of this.

ok thanks. one question .. say if the zerg takes a 2nd (sneaky 2nd) after getting cannon'd and a toss scouts it (now lings are out so cannons are out of question).. whats a proper response? i mean with forge, the warp-gate tech is a little behind so 3 gate exp will take a little while longer.. so what's a proper response to this? it seems with a 2nd farther away is has to be vulnerable so a good timing push should work but it turns out to be very much micro dependent for the toss to win.. so basically, what is a good response? some zergs not only get back their natural before my 5 gate hits but also have a good lead on drones and creep and map coverage (mostly due to 2nd being away) and are kind of safe behind spine at their natural and main. And if i attack the base farther away, most maps seem to have multiple entry to the base and unless i micro good i get sandwiched or crushed.
i know it seems to be a personal fault and most probably it is some mistake that i am making but if you think there is an easier way lemme know :D

this seems difficult to provide a definite answer to. i think a lot of it depends on what the zerg is specifically doing, if their build is only delayed a little, say they got a hatch on 21 or something and ~6 lings out without speed then its probable they will be able to defend a 4gate albeit awkwardly but there is a good chance it could win. if the map allows you to block off reinforcements with a sentry this could work but the zerg could also attack in the open, so i think this is quite map and micro dependent.
if they make a LOT of lings then you will be ahead as long as you expand safely, some +1 5-6gate timing would probably work. but then again anything should work as long as they don't kill you early.
I haven't had loads of experience with the follow up to cannons (and the last time i did i didn't cancel my cannons in time, or scout well enough and died to a one base roach nydus thing ) but i think you might be right that its impossible to go back to a standard 3gate expo. but i think if you get some cannons and use chrono right you might be able to get enough sentries out too which should make your expand safe while getting your warp gate tech done and gateway numbers up.
I'm probably a year late to the party, but checked today that queuing up a drop while moving is doable. I knew that you could drop while moving by clicking d and on the transport, but didn't know if you could do that beforehand so you could movedrop while not needing to frantically click when you finally reached your location.

In order to create a defenders advantage, make warp-in dependant on distance to warpgate. So if you warp into/close to enemys base, it takes 2x the time.
Or, even better, move the warpgate tech back to Twilight council tech. And do something with the Collossi because it seriously ruins that matchup.

Dont be ridiculous. This would destroy the other match ups. Terran would just stim timing every game and itd be gg. Yeah PvP can be chancy but nerfing the shit out of core Protoss mechanics/units isnt the answer.

Or perhaps make so protoss cant warp into another players "pylon-field".

lol interesting way to make this work, a pylon field cause other pylons with in the pylon field to become overpowered. (a behavior buff) Overpowered Pylons warp in units twice as fast. Then make it so that units take twice as long to warp in =P. so even if you wanna proxy u gotta drop 2 pylons.
Now for my contribution, I think Battlecruiser is going to become a revolutionary unit in the next patch =P. Mostly in TvZ. As there is little save for corruptors that effectively deals with them, and for that there's vikings. (Vikings are so slow though) but with Marine Support, or rather I should say Marines with battlecruiser support is a force to be reckoned with
I've always been wondering what exactly makes seperates a Mechanical player from a Creative player. Don't you need good mechanics for your creativity to work?
is mechanics just build orders, apm, control and building placement? Or is there something more to mechanics that I am missing?
And if there is more to mechanics, how would you be able to improve them?
What's the status on the Kespa vs Blizzard argument? I seem to remember reading somewhere that Kespa wouldn't be able to operate on starcraft1 anymore.
Prior to the last 2 GSL season there were regular translators who translated the PlayXP and other interviews (post-game), I think a lot of people miss these (well I do!). I don't think it deserves a thread, but I thought I would post here in the hope someone who knows Korean will valiantly start translating again. Meanwhile, I will start learning Korean so that I might know it in a year....

That is a good question, I would like to say Creativity is all in the mind thinking of new builds/strats. You obviously need the mechanics to do these builds or strats. Mechanics is Macro and keeping your money low by making your army building ovies/pylons/depots and gateways/barracks/factories etc. and building your army up and continuously pumping out more and more scvs/drones/probes.
To improve mechanics is just simply making a mental checklist (Something Day9 thought of) and executing everything you need to do. If you have good macro 7/10 times your going to win.
Watching the GSL videos from last night, I was stunned at the mention of Code B. I had never even heard of it before. How many levels are there, and why do we never hear about them?
I have a question. Are there any publicly traded stock for e-sports corporations? If so, what are they...I'm not a philanthropic so I don't want to give my money away, but are there any Leagues or organizations that I could conceivably enter a stock agreement with? I figure that e-sports is an expanding industry, and it could use some capital to expand...
If anyone knows of any places I can invest, that would be awesome...tyvm
I'm sure everyone knows by now that the SC2 scene is growing considerably, to the point where you now can see numerous players outside the GSL tournament who could be considered at the same level as some of the code A and S players, who are soem of the players you feel could do considerably well in the GSL?
I had a dream last night that I was talking to incontrol. I said something about having trouble with Terrans who deny scouting because I can't tell if it's a one base all-in or a one rax expand early enough. Incontrol looked at me like I was a complete idiot. I don't remember anything else about the dream but I remember that, clear as day... lulz.
quick question, i notice that on incontrols stream he shows up as green to himself even tho i only ever get red or blue in 1v1, is this a mod or is there some option that lest you pick what color you show up as to yourself?

There's a feature that you can enable that colors you green, your allies yellow and your enemies red. Hit alt+f in game. There's a button beside the minimap for it as well.
As a terran player, i feel that bunkers should increase the marine, marauder, and ghost range to 7, instead of adding +1 to range like it is now. The reason is it's hard for terran to counter all types and variants of unscouted cannon rushes; since cannons have 7 range, they even out-range 5+1 marines in bunkers, and terran needs to bust out marauders if they even hope to stave off the cannon's advance, so if i didnt make gas earlier i'm doomed.
And i'm not just talking about games in 1 vs 1 master league, i'm also talking about 3v3 and 4v4 games played by Joe Casuals like me where maps and bases are huge with many pylon hiding spots and you cant really count on everyone to scout all of them. Plus it doesnt seem fair that both protoss and zerg have a mineral-only ground defensive structure that has 7 range, while a marine in a bunker only has 6.
And what's worst is that it doesn't feel fair that it takes the Protoss very little skill to do cannon rushes while it takes much more effort for the terran to defend against them; yes i'm sure most of you masterleague pros can, but it's next to impossible for many plats to defend against a cannon rush once it starts rolling. That is why you see a lot of pylon cheesing in the lower leagues; it takes so very little effort to pull them off, yet so hard for the lower leaguers to defend against. It's only fair that if a certain strategy takes very little skill and effort to pull off, it should also take the same amount of skill and effort to defend against.

If you increase the range of the marine in the bunker, you are also effecting bunker pushing Zerg.
Bunker pushes vs Zerg would be a nearly unbeatable strategy with good control. Because the Spine that the Zerg player makes in response would be in range of the bunker.
I too have experience cannon rushing, but as Zerg. What I do is leave my base and make him think I am still trying to fend it off with a couple of zerglings every once in a while, and I expand all over the map. While he is wasting his time and money on cannons I go on in his base and take him out. That generally works. As Day9 says I just go with "losing my whole f**king base!"

Wasn't this the case in brood war/sc1? All static D had the same range right?

Maybe, though remember that marines Dps wasn't as much as it is in Sc2. Also Zerglings had better Dps. Bunkers were also not free in Bw, or rather you weren't able to liquidate the asset, as long as you have the slightest bit of anticipation.
Also im not sure the stats show it, from game to game. Though sunkens felt like stronger defensive structures.
I just realized something, dunno if its generally known and im just oblivious. I just watched a rep of me doing a heavy upgrade build and clicked on my worker, the poor probe does not get my attack upgrades D: would 8dmg probe be too op? (i was 3/3/2)

Don't know if this is the best way, but I get a bunch of stalkers and depending on how many void rays there are don't engage them until you have enough stalkers to take them out before they charge up. Thats what I do and it seems to work just fine.(blinking away might help to prevent them charging up, but if they are in your base then they will just destroy your buildings with their full charge.) That being said I am in the lower leagues...
I've noticed a new ZvP style being utilized by a lot of good zergs such as haypro and idra on streams lately which basically consists of a mass bling/speedling composition coupled with mass expanding, heavy creep spread and eventually curruptors. Also ovie mineral line harass by dropping banes.
Just wondering, are there any topics going concerning this strategy? Either from a Z or P point of view?
Nydus worms need to be used a lot more. I've used them a bit more and even though they are really easy to stop if you can surprise them or use them as a two prong attack, it's such a great feeling!

Related. How do you stop a 2 rax on slag as zerg? I seriously don't think it's possible....the first marine and scv can arrive before your hatch is even remotely close to done, so you're forced to pull drones, and if he just runs in circles for a few seconds, he gets his second and third marine there super quick, and the bunker WILL go up.....other than just straight up cheesing him yourself, what do you do to stop this?
In TvZ, I'm having a difficult time counting the number of zerglings, the first 10 min of the game. When I cant count the number of zerglings, many of my options become luck based. I tried sending a scv 2 scvs, a marine, etc, and I'm still having a hard time.
Any tips and/or ideas on how to figure out if the opponent has a ton of lings waiting for me?

Sorry about that guys. Co-worker got on my account while I was away from the computer and you can see the carnage he unleashed. Pro tip: Never leave your computer unattended when in the presence of friends :p
Lol is it just me or is ladder really inconsistent?
In the course of 15+ games, I have not found ONE SINGLE TERRAN!
I play Protoss and I banned DQ, Shattered, and Scrap Station.
I hope this is just coincidental because I would like to face Terrans and stop playing against Z or the mirror match-up PvP. If it's not, perhaps I can find the right map bans so that I can play against Z/T all the time, hmm xD

Have you tried turning down your graphics settings? You might want to try asking in Tech Support. They're probably better at answering tech questions.
The yellow icons are based on your post count and join date. You can change your race in your profile.

As the poster above me said, you will need to turn down your video settings to the lowest they can go. RAM is essentially how fast your computer can run things, 1.5 gb is a bit low for SC2 so you will need the minimum settings to make it playable. I'm not sure about your video card, as that is not my area of expertise, but I think that it should be sufficient on lower settings.
If that doesn't help, shut down every running application you can on your computer before booting SC2. I don't know how familiar you are with computers, so I'll give you a general overview of how to do that in the spoiler. Please don't take insult with it, I'm explaining it for the lowest common denomination, so skip it if you don't need it.
On a Mac Move your mouse to your "dock" (which is what you click on to run your applications). Any application with a light underneath (or to the right/left) of it should be right-clicked on, and closed with the "Quit" command.
On a Windows Move your mouse to the clock in the corner. Beside it is a list of running applications. You may have to expand it with a click on the arrow. Right Click on these and select "Quit" or "Close" on all ones you don't need (keep things like antivirus running).
You can also press "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" and select the "Processes" tab, and shut down things that have your username beside them. I would not recommend this, however, as you may lose your desktop.

There was a huge thread in the strategy forum about this maybe a month or so ago and after that it became more and more popular. The consensus was that it is quite a strong rush, but you can counter it with good micro and scouting. Can't seem to find the thread atm, maybe they renamed it.
What are the safest possible builds to use in each matchup? I'm rather new to Terran and was wondering which builds are generally considered the least risky, and most rewarding to good, solid play?
You don't need to reply with detailed analysis on all three builds of your choosing (although I wouldn't complain if you did that!), just linking me to the Liquipedia article for one solid PvZ (for example) build will help immensely. =)

DISCLAIMER: Bronze Rank 1 (No credibility what so ever) Usually a relative safe opening for TvT will be 1/1/1 build let you have some flexibilty in tech and 1 bunker is likely to hold out verywell against any pressure they may do until you get you siege tanks out. For Zerg 2 rax before Orbital command is nice, Put on a bit pressure, and if anything, you have units around to fend off any pressure for the zerg. For Protoss, It's a toss up between 3Raxing (Think toss 4 gating but slightly less all-in-ish) and 2 rax expand with a tech lab and a reactor, factory into starport. Don't forget to bunker with this one

Thanks for showing me that, it really helped me understand the ladder system better...unfortunately all it said for my topic was this:
Pre-game and Post-game Favoritism Discrepancy The pre-game loading screen does not always agree with the post-game score screen, and may not always be accurate. The accurate information can always be found on the score screen. Blizzard is aware of this bug, but it cannot be consistently reproduced.
Pretty much all it says is to only trust the score screen...still kind of scares me.
does anyone know why Team Liquid isn't in the GSTL? I understood that in February that Team Liquid wasn't quite relevant enough, but now with Ret and Haypro having both competed in code A (TLO also competed in a season, forget which one), and HuK and Jinro both in S class (Jinro even being one of the top GSL performers), I would think that Liquid would have proved itself enough to earn itself a spot. I think it is clear that Liquid is at least on the level of Slayers or ZeNex or fOU. I'm just wondering if there are any plans for TL to get in on GSTL any time soon.

They get points for each player in code A currently, and a bit more for those in code S currently, then the 8 highest teams are in the GSTL.
a bit more as in, if i recall correctly, its 1 point for code a, 1.6 for code s

They don't have enough players in Code A and Code S.
And even if they did, they may not have enough players actually in Korea to qualify. I'm unsure if Liquid` players in the US and Europe would be making the trip for the GSTL. I thought I actually read somewhere that you needed seven players minimum to participate in the first place.
If that's the case, they'd only be able to play if Tyler and Nazgul wanted to go to Korea too. But I don't actually know for sure if this is a requirement anymore because Gom seems to change their rules quite regularly and not be all that clear about announcing it.
Dos anyone know where I could get replays of Korean players like ST_Bomber? I checked sc2rep.com but most replays are from the GSL and half of them don't even work properly
I just got the 1.3 patch, and i try to get into any sort of multiplayer game and it says that no servers are available, is this the result of the patch, or are the servers just down with the start of the new season?

The season doesn't end until a week from today. I don't think anyone's really sure exactly what the reason behind the server trouble is but it's probably complications with the patch or something.
A site recently broke functional Starcraft 2 LAN hack, many players do after a measurement can be used, but not the first time Xiaobian test, we are interested to see. I understand that the author is a Chinese, which makes Xiaobian break our ability to once again lament how powerful. While shopping for games crack this thing is certainly not a good thing, but in the present case, Starcraft 2 has been cracked in the country will be able to speed up the popularity.

1, first, that the mailbox no longer use the original, if we find problems, trouble with the new mailbox and contact me, thank you, myerrorreport@yahoo.com
2, I was asked a large version of the problem, may in the future will be conducted with a small version of the release, because the big version is too large, there is no local development. Small version of convenience, and we prepare a client service station is also very easy to find.
3, was also asked about the other languages of the client problems. Thought for a moment, or being published in other languages will not patch the client, the main problem is to reduce the trouble, we can play like, engage in too much may have a lot of trouble. I said, the trouble is for people to find me any trouble. Hope you understand.
4, there are questions about the installation does not install the player can ask the other players, but remember, never to be off anti-virus software, I can not promise I will not be issued when the virus itself, we downloaded a good Alternatively, you can scan it. Firewall, sometimes in order to exclude his problem, closing the short-term, proven not to be opened up immediately after the firewall issues.
Usage update:
1, this update is mainly MyServer.exe server-side changes, and the corresponding increase in library. The map is in Figure 4 did not increase more than 4 people and should have the following diagram, unless there is an error, we discovered that to tell me.
2, win7 storage Blizzard Entertainment's catalog seems to be in a directory called ProgramData, I am here in this directory, but win7 I use too much, not sure, we all try to find out. Look at the directory structure to know.
Known issues:
1, some maps will suddenly playing playing an error in the map list, specific performance is: appear as not downloaded (father's performance), or by invitation, not downloaded the map can not enter the prompt (mother performance). (In my place, Meng Lisi mountains and novice map, and the novice figure there have been disputes this.) There is a double-click the Map Tips kinds of situations can not download the maps, but again, you can create double-click (I have here is a lost temple .)
2, sometimes after playing for some time, there will be points to create the game but the father did not respond, the game locked, or the mother point to accept the invitation did not respond, the game locked, and my feedback about the map which appears this problem.
PS: there may be a way to avoid is the mother into the game or play well in a game, the first list of the map interface, and then invite father and mother in the invitation, if not to the interface, father invited you, first rejected it. I tried a little down this probability is small.
3, 2 user feedback, which in a game, playing to a certain point in time, the game both sides of the game data is not the same as the other party does not operate the same. This is what I do server BUG, will cause the parties can not receive each other's operating instructions. This is a relatively serious problem, and I in this version has been modified. However, because the probability of recovery is not high, I did not fully grasp that change is good, do not know how effective, if we have met again, the operating conditions at that time and I said it. This is easier in the latter part of many units, and operating under very frequent.
4, also have a user feedback, 2 win7 even, when the game begins, mother can not control units, and this I tried several times here, try it once, because not found, if we have encountered, re- open about it, sorry ... ... if they can tell me what laws.
5, the speed of the game, the last version of the feedback is basically a local area network is normal, but the Internet has significantly accelerated the situation, I've not conditional testing the Internet, we do not make changes on this issue. There is a playing card when the problem reflects a player will suddenly accelerate, the more players are also asked about the words to describe what is the situation? What happened under the network. Thank you
PS: this problem today, I know the situation, and that I made a mistake. This error will result in a delay of more networks, more speed, so I did not feel my LAN out, in fact, forget about later with a stopwatch, I will be here soon LAN 6,7 seconds per minute. But after I changed, does not guarantee the speed and the card does not play this card, complete running again, please do not prejudiced, or feel in the end, how? If you have any questions, you can tell me.
6, in win7 and vista on the problems to be significantly more than xp, because vista win7 and did not do a lot of tests, basically in xp, so this part of the players say sorry, try to improve on in future versions.
7, a direct dial-up users in a number of ADSL users and the campus network, the feedback does not seem to use, this is because I basically only in the local area network testing network environment to wait for the other version after making changes and testing, sorry.
PS: Some players have been invented with the use hamachi to play, I do not know how effective, so these users can try to play okay.
8, may have a chance to brush some maps do not come out, for example, I list here, sometimes there will be no city map.
Has anyone noticed the new "Add Bookmark" button at the match history game screen? Where I can see the list of those bookmarks etc.? Haven't find it yet.
EDIT: I've just found it. You're bookmarking the map that game has been played on, which you can retrieve in custom games using "My bookmarks" filter. Expected a little more of that
Ok guys, my client is quitting without any error message at the login screen. EU server, i launched it successfully... some days ago, dont know exactly, before the patch, thats sure. So now it comes up, version is still 1.2.XXX, login screen, whole stuff goes gray, some seconds and than exits. Without any comment. Anyone else? I will try reinstalling it but thats a painful and slow process :S
Edit: ok, i searched some more, and found that its not really rare problem. You download the patch manually, apply it and be happy. In theory. We will see, its huge and my net connection is not too strong :S

Hi, i just played a ladder game 1v1 on XNC, and after I mercilessly crushed my opponent, I decided to stay and mine out the whole map. So I killed all my army units and started churning out SCV's, in the hope of having 200 idle workers in the end, making a screenshot of it and pass it around the forums for some lulz or whatever.
Turns out I discovered that something must be broken: When everything was said and mined, I gathered all the scv's and put them into one big control group (yeah I know, one control group syndrome, gotta work on that). The little tab at the bottom showed 197 SCV's. My food counter said 200/200.
What have I stumbled upon? Or did I make a mistake when thinking of this as "something kaputt"?
EDIT Whats there to see: First I defeat some P rather clumsily, you probably dont wanna watch that cause it'll give you eye cancer or something, but it gets really exciting around the hourmark. I promise. Look to the top right corner and compare to the control group tab after all scvs are pulled together.

You have a banshee in the top right.
Also I can't believe I watched that replay, even on x8.
I was watching a stream a couple weeks ago and noticed that the person streaming was spectating a game and he was able to change all of the buildings to look differently. Like a new design of some sort. I looked around in the options menu to see if I could change it and I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Does anybody know how to change this? Or know what I'm talking about? I liked the way it looked. Was just curious. Any help would be great, thanks.
dont think this deserves its own topic so asking here. Im a P player and PvP is the bain of my existence but I have been watching some reps to learn from the pro's. One thing I've noticed is that a lot pro's in PvP 9 scout as oppposed to 13 after gateway just wondering what you can see or what exactly should I be looking for on a scout after pylon as opposed to after gw. I know what to look for to see a 4 wp rush coming but seems like u can almost always get a 13 in to see chrono saved up/gas before the first stalker comes out and if they do go zealot first its pretty easy to outrun it.
I've been trying to make a 1gate 2robo build vs terran, where you pump constant immortals with a few zealots and room for cannons incase of banshees. Can anyone help me get down the specific BO?
On March 26 2011 11:54 enigmatik wrote: Is it possible to spawn close positions on Slag Pits? I don't ever recall spawning there and it would be ridiculously close if you could.
Yes, you can spawn in any pair of the starting positions, including close positions (12/3, 6/9).
And yes, it sucks (I'm a Zerg, qq, T.T, etc etc). A number of pros have said it's shorter than steppes. I haven't checked any of those measurement threads since they were added, but I'd believe it.
Why do the games in GSL always crash/drop/whatever? It happens ridiculously often. Fortunately it's only a minor inconvenience but still, it happens pretty damn often.
Also, I don't know if this was a change in the most recent patch or maybe it's just in the map I was playing, but it's a thing about the minimap. I was playing Phantom and I noticed that your units on the minimap are a little darker green, and when you select a unit, it becomes lighter green. So the little green squares on your minimap change to a lighter green when you select them. Has it always been like that?
What is the correct way to use roaches with tunneling claws against terran?
Or better - how should i spread the roaches under his army and what are the priority targets (let's say the army is marines/sieged tanks/a few thors) after i unburrow them?
It is so frustrating, because most terrans are not prepared for it and still i somehow lose a ~ 50 supply advantage.
Here is a screenshot of the last failed attack:
I feel like i should be crushing skulls with this, yet i die miserably
I haven't heard anyone else mention this, so I'm starting to think I'm a little crazy but... has anyone else noticed that the roach upgrade icons seem to be backwards?
I remember they got swapped in beta and I thought it was a bug, but they have yet to change it back. The speed upgrade is of a giant CLAW, and the tunneling CLAW upgrade is a leg with speed lines behind it.

You're looking for whether he's 2 gating you (skipping the core and gas), or cannon rushing. If you leave it till a 13 scout these builds are much harder to defend. You can also divert the 9-scout around your nat a little on it's way out to check for proxy gates, OR you can get to a Xel'Naga tower first (on 4 player maps) to try and spot his starting location the easy way.
Basically it's just an anti-cheese measure, any "normal" build will be fine with 13-scout as you can scout until the stalker comes out, as you say.
I just had a quick question about skill in general for SC2, wasn't sure if this was good enough to be a thread (I'm also new so I can't make one).
Do you think that skill in SC2, or RTS games in general, is something that is inherent. Or is it something that we need to work on and build up?
I'm a bronze player, and sometimes I just feel as though I'll never be very good at this game. I enjoy playing it very much, but it seems to me like there are a lot of other people who have a much easier time improving.
I'm not really looking for tips on how to get better, I'm just curious what others think about this. Is RTS just a game genre that takes a certain inherent skill? I can't even imagine that some of the pros out there started off at the same level I'm at right now.

I think With Starcraft 2, broodwar and other similar RTS games, Its a lot more likely that being good at the game comes from Intellectual ability's such as Observation and reaction times which will improve your game, Also goof knowledge on the game itself, Such as builds and counters for all factions in the game will Help you to advance into a higher league, The thought of being skilled at an RTS due to Inherited knowledge is pretty silly. But im open to different opinions.
okay, so: In GSTL, there are team accounts which everyone in the team plays on. It doesnt matter which player is playing, players are only named oGs or Slayers or TSL or whatever. And I think the player who won the previous round enters the booth before the player of the other team is chosen, so what I wonder is whether if the player who won the previous round know who he is actually playing against?

You will be able to play but only on very low settings with low resolution. It wont run the game that well tbh.

Attacking bunkers and sieged tanks with roaches is EXTREMELY bad idea. Use burrow to catch him off-guard when he is unsieged or at least attack him when he is moving out and has no bunkers. Also consider attacking both mineral lines simultaneously.
Just wanted to throw an idea out there: For StarCraft 3 or RTS games in general, do you think it would be a good idea or a bad idea to have a "strafe-move" command? I see all the time pros having to memorize exact firing rate timings and micro things like marines running from zealots. If you had a move that was in between attack move and regular move, maybe it would make the game more fun for more people. The command would basically tell a unit, "move when you can't attack" (i.e. on cooldown or don't have a target). It does make it a little more intellectual rather than dexterity based... but is that bad? I would use it for things where I want my army to focus a little more on staying alive than doing damage- e.g. if I'm transferring troops to protect an expansion, or sending my reinforcements to join my main army, or just harassing.

u cant tell whos on top etc, cuz people sometimes make mistakes, they are not robots, even if they korean. I think you only can tell who are TOp players, but ranking them is kind of random. Even goody won that korean zerg, called the best zerg in the world... T_T
i don't think you can do power ranking for sc2 yet because there is no standard for int'l players. How do you compare the koreans to foreigners when the only time they have played head-to-head (when it's not 3-4 foreigners vs 30+ koreans) is in the tsl where the koreans are clearly playing with insanely high pings? I think only when there are a lot of lans with diverse int'l showings can you really do a power ranking. Because right now you would have a list of koreans and foreigners randomly inserted without really knowing where exactly they stack up.

That is a very good point, but I still think you could do a power ranking that updates itself every month. We all know that e gaming is always active, and if someone could compile enough data and replays on the top 25 players in the world, you could absolutely do a power ranking that changes periodically to reflect the changes. Koreans are playing with high pings right now, the only way to solve that would be to wait until the WCG or similar tourney, and even then you only have a handful of samples. Needless to say it would be a lot of work for whoever did it.

What does Blizzard plan to use as portraits/icons for the next two expansions..? They've used about almost every possible unit per race, and a few 'heros'. It would be stupid to see repeats/or half-assed "infested x" icons..
They'll probably just add portraits of any new characters or units that they include in the games. Remember they're just going to be expansion packs, not entirely new games.
Or the can go old school and make them from Brood wars or the first SC maybe add movement
Had some kind of epiphany today while practicing: nukes kill larva and eggs.
This could be so powerful and abusive in crippling zerg production. Nuking a hatchery not only forces to pull drones off mining and does some damage, it is potentially a huge production setback, depending how many larva are stockpiled.
Considering that zerg often only get spores and overseers when they scout banshees, it should be quite possible to sneak an academy somewhere, and at least the first strike is guaranteed to succeed.
And if it is done late, when zerg starts attacking and remaxing, killing all the larva on 2-3 bases completely shuts that down.
Of course this kinda relies on the zerg not expecting it. But academies are easy to hide.

Thanks =)
Here are the builds I currently use, not sure if they will suit your tastes though.
vZ- Reacter Hellions: One gas usualy expand early ~5:30. -Keep zerg distracted -Kill all the lings and drones that I can without running into roaches or spines. -Transition into 2rax 2fact marine- tank/thor/blue flame (whatever I may need) -Make sure I don't get surprised by roach rushes or unexpected mutas.
vP- 2rax reacter/tech lab expand -Has a large enough force early to defend 4gates (with bunkers) or be aggressive vs FE builds. -Transisiton into bio play supported by ghosts/vikings/medivacs (dependant on game) -Usually harass with drops as soon as medivacs come out.
vT- 1/1/1 expand -Basic Viking/Siege tank strat -Hope that opponent disregards vikings so that I can surprise him with B/Cs to spice it up a bit
I'm a protoss player and I never understood why in build orders you would wait until you have a certain amount of minerals to build 2 or 3 buildings. For example wait till 300 mins to build 2 gates at the same time or 450 to build 3 gates at the same time. Why not build them as you get the mins fo rone?

I'm guessing one reason is that you get more mining time that way.
Why is it many terrans who make a bunker at their front whilst teching, put only either 1 or 2 of their marines inside the bunker, even when they have 4+. I could understand if it was just against zerg, and the extra marines were looking for sacrificial overlords, but it seems to be against all races.
Anyway, I'm happy with the reset, fresh start. I want to start right away and was wondering if anyone here know where to find some Dutchies to play with? I'm a Bronze player... gonna start Zerg now instead of Toss, just because I enjoy the race way more and don't care of people saying it's way harder.
So any Dutch people, prefer Bronze people who enjoy playing instead of Diamond+ players that don't wanna play or are too cocky TisL - 404
Yeah reset is imminent on NA. My main Account is in SEA and I don't know if it's just me but I find life after ladder is HARD. Matchups seems fiercer now. Opponents are tougher for some reason that I can't comprehend yet.
Possible reasons:
1. Lots of lower level players which just gave up on sc2 did not take up the placement match since they stopped playing, thus occupying useless empty spots on the ladder. Now all 100 ranks have active players which most likely had more experience, leading to a ladder with high saturation of top ranked bronzes. It's like ice chocolate milk that had time for the cubes to melt. So the good part (chocolate milk) had settled to bottom of the cup (hugher ranks).
Now someone stirred the cup and we have good players sitting everywhere in the ranks!

Just something I've been thinking of while playing on the ladder:
Is there any relevance in the fact that sometimes zergs will get shafted with hatch placement? My point being, that if a zerg is in a 12 o'clock position, the drones have to travel around the hatch and to the rally, before they finally start mining, whereas Protoss and Terrans' workers come straight out of the closest point of the CC/Nexus and start mining a LOT faster than drones would.
Does this affect the zerg player in the beginning stages of the game? or is it such a minuscule difference that it doesn't even matter?

if ur larva are facing you minerals, you get to send drones to min faster, but if your larva face your ramp, your units reinforce faster...
esp if im being attacked early, its better to have ur eggs face your ramp rather than ur mins

Yesterday i played my placement match and ended up in gold again. Played one more game and got promoted to platinum. After being promoted my bonus pool has stayed at 0(the last ~18 hours). Is this a bug or because of the promotion(The promotion gave like 70 points or so)?
Do you think that 4warp gate rush in PvP can be stop if you can't warp in untis to high ground if your plyon is not on the same level? (This doesn't apply to warp prism and hence increase it uses)

stopping the pylon in the first place accomplishes that well enough. That's the basis to the 3 stalker opening, as i understand it.
I also have quite a few ideas to stop force field abuse against zerg without nerfing it.
1. Give Queens spell(with cool down) to disperse Force Field. This will allow force field to be effective to some extend yet not over strong. Encourage creep spread.
2. Uproot spore crawler can crash force field. (players can decide whether to get evo chamber depending whether they scout their opponent is going for mass sentry)

As you can see in GSL World that 3 stalker rush is not good enough to stop well place pylon. 4 gate is still the core.

This makes unfortunate sense (the same thing happened to my friend, I'm barely above it I think.) It means your MMR (hidden rating) was almost exactly at the gold/plat border. Since Bnet is extra flexible due to reset (forced re-placement based off old MMR) It changed your ranking twice, when normally it would probably wait longer intervals of games before changing your visible ranking. This is in line with you not getting much bonus pool because the system is saying you are already where you are supposed to be wheras everyone getting lots of points/pool the system wants to get higher quicker. I'm also low plat borderline and im not getting all these +20 wins everyone else is but I get matched with 50% gold and 50% plat and just got promoted pre-reset so that makes sense.
This seems like a good place; I don't think it deserves it's own thread, so...
I've noticed in the GSL (first) that during the battle, the observer could lower the UI (14:40 of MC versus morrow g1 http://www.gomtv.net/2011championship/vod/64030 ). I thought it was a mod that the GSL had done. However, I was watching the MLG stream earlier and saw it there too. Since I'm just now noticing it, I assume it came in with some of the other observer changes? I looked in the hotkeys list, and I don't see anything that might be it under the Observer or the UI tab. Does anyone have any information on this?
Friendly Hallucinations can be targeted in 2v2 situations by Seeker Missiles. When the hallucinated unit dies (Through damage or elapsed time), the Seeker Missile will explode at its last location, providing increased accuracy for the projectile.
So I was wondering could you use a hunter missile on an ally changeling then run that changeling into an enemy army?
