Speaking of PL, I'd like to see ManU stopping any Aeroflot cooperation, but let's just say I'm not exactly holding my breath. I think I saw the announcement this afternoon that they've stopped, but don't take my word of it.

One point off fourth with two games in hand is such a great position for us given that I went into this season expecting another 8th place finish

How has Ben White been? I remember some pundits arguing looked out of place in the Arsenal the system in his first few games. Has he settled in now?
At least he seems to be getting steady 90 minutes every game, so I assume he hasn't been a total disaster.

LONDON (AP) — The invasion of Ukraine drew punitive measures across the sporting world on Friday when Russia was stripped of the Champions League final, with UEFA replacing St. Petersburg with Paris as host, and Formula One dropping this season’s Russian Grand Prix in Sochi.
The International Olympic Committee also urged sports federations to move their events out of Russia or Belarus, which Moscow is using as a staging ground for its troops moving into Ukraine from the north.
A backlash against the embrace of Russian state-owned companies as sponsors in sports saw Manchester United drop Aeroflot’s commercial deal, with the Premier League club citing “events in Ukraine” after the airline was banned in Britain as part of sanctions against President Vladimir Putin’s regime.
Although UEFA still has Gazprom as a Champions League sponsor, the final will no longer be staged at the St. Petersburg stadium named after the Russian state-owned energy firm. The climax to the European men’s football season will still be held on May 28 but now at the 80,000-seat Stade de France in the Saint-Denis suburb of the French capital after the decision by UEFA’s executive committee.

Now just sever the Gazprom ties and it looks almost good enough.

That and maybe banning Russian Clubs from participating, but that could end up blowing up in their face.

ManU agreement with that company was already terminated today.
Abramovich is on the sanctions list IIRC and he doesnt have a british passport as news reports around here claim he might be required to leave the UK and ties to Chelsea (but take it with a grain of salt for now). He does have portuguese nationality tho, due to an old safe harbour rule we have for a specific group of jewish people (pardon me if this sounds offensive in any shape or form, i struggle to have this in proper english and am mostly ignorant of the actual rule we have in place to grant nationality in those cases).
Around here we only know about that because some journalist made a piece one or 2 months ago and it blew up because people accused the government official in charge to be applying that safe harbour rule based on interest and not based on the actual historical justification/requirements for it. It is under investigation so im not sure if RA was one of those cases or if it was indeed legitimate, which as far as we know, might have been.

Wont you look at that. I honestly did not expect that so quickly, if at all, from ManU. Guess that's indicative of where my expectations regarding ethics and international football are.

Abramovich is not in any sanctions lists and nor is he banned from the country. He has had no visa since 2018 and has not renewed since, he is a citizen of Portugal and Israel now and could have gotten a visa prior to this but chooses not to, he has been in London recently but hardly comes here an follows Chelsea in Europe etc.
He will never be forced to cut ties with Chelsea, but he might be "banned" if it gets even worse than it is (it is pretty bad now though so i don't know how it can get any worse) and in that case he will be in the same situation he is now, being an owner of a club and not going to many homes games (be 0 at that point) which might force his hand to sell the club eventually.

Suitors of Chelsea FC are on high alert over a possible sale of the prized English football club by billionaire Roman Abramovich, people familiar with the matter said.
Sports investors and private equity firms, including some from the U.S., have begun to draw up potential takeover offers for the London team, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing confidential information. Chelsea has already fielded one enquiry this month, one of the people said.
It comes as governments around the world respond to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine with a range of punishing sanctions against Russia, its companies and super-rich. Abramovich is not currently on the U.K.’s sanctions list.
Any potential sale of Chelsea in these circumstances would be unprecedented in English football. Chelsea is valued at about 1.9 billion euros ($2.1 billion), according to KPMG, meaning a takeover could be one of the largest in the European game. By comparison, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund last year bought Newcastle United FC in a deal valuing the U.K. Premier League club at 305 million pounds ($409 million).
It’s not entirely clear how a deal would go through if the U.K. imposes sanctions. Sanctioned individuals wouldn’t be able to sell their U.K. assets, which would be frozen, according to Stacy Keen, a lawyer specializing in sanctions at Pinsent Masons LLP.
A representative for Chelsea declined to comment, while a spokesperson for Abramovich could not be reached for comment.
Abramovich has a net worth of about $13 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, having built his fortune from dividends and sales of privatized assets acquired from the former Soviet Union. British foreign secretary Liz Truss this week refused to rule out adding Abramovich to a refreshed list of sanctioned individuals.
The 55-year-old is best known in Britain as the owner of Chelsea, which he bought in 2003. Since then he’s invested millions turning it into one of England and Europe’s most successful teams. Last year, Chelsea won the prestigious UEFA Champions League title and this month added the Club World Cup to its trophy cabinet. The club sits third in the U.K. Premier League table.
Chris Bryant, a member of Britain’s opposition Labour Party, told the House of Commons this week that Abramovich shouldn’t be allowed to own an English football club.
American investors would show “significant” interest in Chelsea if it came up for sale, said Jeff Moorad, whose MSP Sports Capital has invested in McLaren Racing. The club is “one of the true global brands,” he said in an email.

I've been very pleased with his performance this season so far That's probably a huge thing for the club image wise. With Özil trouble and Pepe not being a complete success, Arsenal really needed some success stories. Combine UCL football and the positive vibes and you've got pretty good potential for attracting more awesome players.

So now what? I'd imagine if FIFA decides that Poland automatically forfeits then a category 12 shitstorm would be unleashed.
Poland will boycott their World Cup play-off against Russia because of the invasion of Ukraine, with captain Robert Lewandowski saying "we can't pretend that nothing is happening".
Polish football association president Cezary Kulesza has said the team "does not intend" to play the game.
Russia are due to host Poland in Moscow on 24 March, while Ukraine travel to Scotland on the same day.
"The right decision," tweeted Lewandowski.
On Thursday, Fifa said it would monitor the situation after Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic said in a joint statement that play-off matches should not be played in Russia.
"No more words, time to act," tweeted Kulesza on Saturday.

Its so sad that single organisations and players do more than politicians and countries against this. While I stayed neutral through all this, once Russia really invaded the Ukraine the time to be neutral is over and anyone starting any war should be condemned.
