All sites that have been streaming SC2 such as OGN or MBC have been banned from braodcasting GSL. What if someone puts them on utube or on any other source? One thing that many foreigners, or even Koreans are not well aware of is that Gomtv hardly has enough reesources to broadcast it even within Korea. We are relatively new in the market and conventional gaming channel are hogging all the sponsors. Most sponsors think there s no need to sponsor SC2 when SC1 is doing just fine. Also our balance sheet has been on negative side for very long time. We almost thought of giving up the whole e-sports thing because KeSPA and other channels have been giving us very hard time until Blizzard signed exclusive contract with us. We have 2 more seasons to run just this year and yet we are underfunded and understaffed. The expense to host a server in US and providing English stream was much higher than we had anticipated. Probably why conventional channels never tried to expand beyond Korea. We desperately need money if we are to improve oversea service at this stage, and gaining sponsors is easier said than done.
So you want to tell me that Blizzard Activision a multi-billion dollar company did NOT check your financial capabilities before selling you the broadcasting rights for their new game, one of the most anticipated gaming titles of all time ? Yeah, sure.

They would never do that and they shouldnt...

this makes me sad, I was really looking forward to seeing some of these games. Oh well, lots of other tourney's out there.

I don't know why GOM-TV expects us to believe their financial capabilities stories when they have already outright lied to us this week telling us VODs would be free.
edit: I honestly think people should start contacting blizzard, seeing as they are a sponsor and obviously have a vested interest in this tournament. Blizzard needs to be aware that the company they put their faith in is running competitive sc2 into the ground.

Also this sham should be pulled off the tourney tracker.
You are going a little too far, aren't you?

Not only that but Gretech is basically owned by CJ, one of the largest corporations in South Korea. This entire thing just smells of greed.

I do think GOMTV has made a big mistake here. I will never pay to watch eSport. I don't even pay to watch real sport.
If they need money, there are several options to do it without killing your customer base. Release a compilation of DVD of all the games in one season casted in English, documentary of the whole event, progamers interviews, Tshirt etc.
They should at least release a free low HD stream and allow people to upgrade to a better quality. The price they have right now is just downright silly though, I wonder if they have done any market research before hand.
To excuse their behaviour by saying they don't have money, it's just the same excuse KeSPA throws around. Ridiculous. These companies really need to come up with more creative excuses to cover their greed.
|
If they can't afford paying for streaming to an audience... all they have to do is take like 10-20K out of their prize pool and use it so people can actually WATCH your games. This pricing is just ridiculous.

epic fail! and i was so looking forward to watching GSL. thanks GOMTV

I'm willing to pay but i simply can't afford this...

Id imagine there going to be monitoring TL for this kind of thing .

Since I don't watch streams, vods, or anything other than replays and am in no way being disadvantaged by this, I believe I can provide some objective analysis: GOMTV is being hilariously stupid. That is all!
|
the silly thing is that the games take place at 19:00 korean time, so a majority of US/EU fans wont be able to tune in for the live (re)stream anyway

This. If they ever released all three seasons of Classic with Tasteless & Co and include some behind-the-scenes content then it'd be a no-brainer
