i wouldnt be so sure if those two are upset about this.
on-topic: not everything in the interwebs is for free, i have no problem to pay something to watch tournaments. to be honest i rather pay something and have good quality, support the company behind it before i pay nothing and get laggy, low quality streams, no garantee that it will be streamed in the first place etc...

gom has had issues with lag and low quality in the past, don't assume that just because they're charging it means the issues are fixed

They didn't say it was free. Don't think they ever did. The only time "free" is used in that post is for the KBS 88 Stadium. Did you read the post? "Well I guess another big question everyone has is "How the hell do we watch the games?!" We will upload them on http://www.gomtv.net. It is NOT in Korean and you do NOT need to pay." There's no reading between the lines or anything.

I know many of you are very curious about it, but all I can say is that it will be confidential for now. As for the opening match, I mentioned before that there will be 16 players playing. It seems I was misinformed. There will be 4 selected players from RO64, which means there will be 2 matches(3 games per match, the best two wins). Well I guess another big question everyone has is "How the hell do we watch the games?!" We will upload them on http://www.gomtv.net. It is NOT in Korean and you do NOT need to pay. "What about commentaries?! Do we have to watch it listening to Korean jibberish?" Not to worry. Dan(Artosis) and Nick(Tasteless) are going to provide English commentaries. If by any chance some of you already live in Korea or are planning to come to Korea this week. The opening match will be held at KBS 88 Stadium at 7pm KST on 4th of September. It's free and all the players that participated in the preliminaries will be given VIP seats and presents. For further information do not hesitate to email me : junkka@gretech.com Wow, so 2 days ago they say the VODs of the GSL will be free. Now they are going to charge 30 dollars for just one season of VODs that they can remove at their discretion. Now that is some serious BS!

actually its was more like they didnt give a sh1t about us, what in fact would be even better than what gomtv is doing now...

This. If it costs less a lot more people will buy it. But right now only a few people would buy it and it would encourage pirated streams.

I can't wait for the streams to start and GOM realizes that 20 people are paying/watching instead of the hundreds/thousands they had hoped for.

Unfortunately, it's too late for them to lower or remove the price. I'm sure a lot of people have already purchased tickets and the hassle of refunds would be too much.

It may be in the best interest of the involved party's wallets however. Y'know how other sports get big? Availability. If you stream it, they will come and they'll keep coming. You can't take something with limited demand outside a certain region (read: Korea), charge for it, and expect it to grow big like that.
I sincerely hope GOM backs off on their current terms. They actually would make much more profit if it cost something like 5 dollars
How do you know that?.. Do you even know what it cost them to stream to one person?

has any started an open letter to gomtv discussing the issue at hand were we would appreciate a free stream?

Is this a joke?
Do we know for sure that 1 season=1 tourney? Or 1 year.

However, I'm okay with the stream having a fee, but I'd like some clarification here. We're going to have to pay to watch the vods as well, not just the stream? If so, that's really, really, really, really bad news Live stream tickets and VOD tickets are sold seperately. If that's so then it looks like I'm not watching the GSL =/. GL, thanks for the speedy reply. Yeah. I"m in the same spot as boesthius..

you don't think that there will be sponsors for the league? acitivision/blizzard/gom are trying to milk the system with no regard for the growth of e-sports. they will make every fucking penny at every avenue possible, even if it alienates the fans.
you don't see BW charging fans for watching VODS, watching their live streams, or harass TL for uploading VODS. i sure as hell suspect blizzard will get on their ass quick on trying to shut down streamers or ppl who post VODS on youtube. UGH BLIZZARD FUCK YOU
|
I can't believe this.. I was looking forward to GSL more than any event but this is absurd.
I will have more than enough to watch with MLG WCG etc. etc. sorry GSL this is just a BAD move. Way too much money, and not even total access.
All you did with these prices and stipulations was invite piracy.

this is not some PPV event that happens every year... its a tournament for a game that just came out a month ago... hell theres only 2-4 people i wanna see on the tournament... LQ stream for 20$ is obviously ridiculous... get ready to get bankrupt...GG GSL

...serious?
E-sports isn't as popular as you think it is.

No thanks, I'll pass on GSL, especially since GomTV quality is notoriously terrible. Even if GomTV had a history of good quality I'd still pass.
