after all I'm worried with future Gom tournaments. if they are doing stuff like that its probably because they are somehow desperate for money...
Part of the inhumanity of the computer is that, once it is competently programmed and working smoothly, it is completely honest.

I feel sorry for Artosis and tasteless. I'm sure they are furious right now. and respectively so.. korea in 2 years for this to happen to them. I hope it works out at least. I'm sure they can't really regret it either. They seemed to have had lots of fun

People, please post your concerns at the GOMtv site. You have to sign up, but it's quick and painless. There are hardly any posts over there compared to the amount here, which they said they won't be checking as much. We need to overwhelm their forums with distinct IP addresses from around the world if we want our opinions to be heard and games to be streamed for free. Everyone here knows the pricing is ridiculous, but it's time to let them know by posting on their forums. I know the SC community can gather force when needed as seen in WCG voting among other things, but now is the time we need you the most. This is the future of E-Sports we're talking about.

http://www.gomtv.net/2010gslopens1/forum/

but see i'd rather not. GOMTV is starving for revenue now, and attracting us to their forums is one way for them to get some. And I guess I'm what you could call a bit of a GOMTV hater. I loved that they hired Tasteless, I loved that they gave free VODs and had a pretty good league going for a bit, but I really think the whole altruism aspect of that company is overrated. They did what they did to try and compete in an already crowded market: their strategies were not kind-hearted ones, but creative manipulations of market niches. Good for them. But now that they're on top, where did all their coolness go?

Lol, an altruistic company. That's a good one, you oxymoron. Every company that's not a non-profit organization is in it to make money. I would hate to see their flawed business model be the downfall of SC2 as an E-sport in Korea. The only way to promote change is to allow your voice to be heard, and the best way to do that is to post on their forums. The more they realize how few people are actually willing to pay for the stream, the more likely they will be to change their fee-based strategy. And trust me, you posting on their forums is not going to magically erase their debt.

haha did you just call me an oxymoron?

Anyways, as for posting on their forums... one has to ask, if our voices aren't being heard, why would they post on our site to go post on their site? I'm sure it's more like they hear our voices either way, they just want the site hits and the ability to moderate their way.

Record the low quality streams and upload to youtube? That way we can see the games and "protest"

I thought Blizzard would provide the prize money from their pocket for a few months and then we pay. Or they would pay 50% of the 50$/month and us 50%. or both. Blizzard wins 100 million $ every month I find it a little disgusting to make us pay everything. i'd like to know what they do with all that money.

If Blizzard was a standard company and didnt make WoW then I would definitly agree paying $ every month for GSL. Because we pay to watch our favourite players battle it out. We pay the prize pool but in return they give us fun and we can only be happy to see them win money.

just gonna copy and paste my post that i made on the GOM forums....

Sigh, i was really really looking forward to these tournaments.

_______________________________________________________________________________

This post is just a drop in the bucket i am sure, but i felt the need to add my feelings on horrid pricing decision you have made. 50 dollars for a live stream and TEMPORARY vods is simply insulting to the vast majority of your potential audience. I am wholly sympathetic to the fact that bandwidth cost as well as infrastructure required to broadcast this event world wide is formidable, but you have set the price point for this one tournament higher then what many people pay for months of cable TV and similar services. Add on to this that the last GOMtv invitational stream had many issues with lag, and as such we are paying for an unproven and untested stream with NO guarantee of quality. Add on top of all this that the 50$ is not a subscription to all of the open tournaments of 2010 and you expect your customer base to pay $150 for 3 tournaments over the course of 5 months? Simply put this is not an insignificant amount to pay for a stream with only 500kbs (hardly HD by many standards) and temporary access to VODS.

I for one can not justify this outrageous expense. I was one of many who waited for the GSL with high hopes, a chance to truly showcase E-sports on a global level with the level of professional commentary in both Korean and English that we loved during the GOMtv invitational. But as it stands my only option seems to be watching the OGN stream of the GSL which is ironically free of charge, and higher bitrate then the astronomically priced premium stream in English.

In conclusion GOMTV, you have lost a customer who would have been perfectly willing to pay a reasonable amount for a quality product. I am not by any means the only one who feels this way, the myriad posts mirroring my sentiments on these forums should be ample example.

Regertfully,

A loyal E-sports fan.

Lots of speed tests in this thread and it's making me realize something. I am insanely jealous of all the Scandinavians on here. 100 Mbps up and down? I pay $75 a month for 15/3.

Maybe this is dumb, but isn't the simple solution for GSL to just stream on ustream and then upload HD VODs to youtube if they are so bothered about the costs of running streams...

There is a Forum at www.gomtv.net if you press league on the menu

What a joke, no one has even bothered reading there or responding. Just in the case you don't know, there's like 70 new topics that say your system sucks. Please don't say garbage like that if you won't even read your own forums.

Isn't that a bit too harsh? I mean give them time to figure out some official statements? Why would they want to reply to all the threads that are 100% identical?

It is better to come out with some official thread about the whole deal than just going and replying to the same shit over and over.

Just an indication of them actually being interested in the feedback they're getting on the forum where he specifically pointed us to would be nice.

About the time, in Korea the work days begin later than elsewhere?

Way back when, Sweden spent a lot of time and resources on improving their internet networks, while Finland just let the "competition" develop itself. Now we're stuck with 100/10s only in the major cities and even something like 8/2 is huge elsewhere, whereas Sweden has 200/100s in the mountain regions.

It's not inconceivable that 1-2 GOM employees are assigned to image maintenance on sites other than GOM and not one other person at the company would ever read TL. In fact, given what we've seen, that seems to be the case.

Don't kid yourself, restreaming is very much in violation of the terms of service, and possibly copyright laws (i am pretty sure on the copyright at least).

This announcement and thread have left such a bitter taste in my mouth I'll be hard pressed to even want to watch the re-streams. It's already been mentioned in this thread but the manipulation device in play here is obviously: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door-in-the-face_technique

Gretech is being disingenuous at best, and I can't even describe how angry it has made me.
