I just received the following e-mail (I added bold for emphasis): Show nested quote + Dear our valued user, This is GOMtv.net Support Team. We’ve found you purchased Season Live ticket($19.95) via Paypal and we are sending this email to inform you very important issues. We are sorry to say this, however, we would like to let you know this information as soon as possible. As you know, we do not have free streaming service on GOMtv.net. Since our service has been opened to public, lots of e-sports fans have requested for the free streaming service. We’ve thought this issue over for the last few days and we’ve decided to release the free service for the users. Therefore, we will service 1 season premium ticket which includes VOD service and Premium Live service, and the price will be $19.95. With premium ticket, you can watch High Quality(500K) streaming live matches and VODs. Free service is the Standard Quality(below 250K) streaming live only, with no VODs. You can ask a refund if you are not happy with this new premium service. However, if you keep your purchase, we will reward you the premium ticket for 3 pre-seasons which is valid for all season in this year. Please reply to this email if you want to refund your VOD ticket before the first live broadcasting starts(at 7pm KST). Otherwise, we will consider that you keep your purchase and accept the premium service for 3 pre-seasons. Again, thank you for your purchase. Sincerely, GOMtv.net Support Team
It looks like still no free vods, but free LQ stream.

Hello everyone,
As the opening match for GSL approaches, we have recieved many questions related to live streams and VODs.
Previously many of you SC fans overseas have had trouble gaining access to live streams.
For GSL , all matches from Ro64 will be broadcasted on our Englsih homepage www.gomtv.net The renewal is being done as we speak, and you will soon be able to gain full information. The site is not fully open yet, so we hope you understand that some of the functions are not active at the moment. Please wait with patience ![](/mirror/smilies/smile.gif)
As mentioned before, the streams will be provided live, commentated by Artosis(Dan) and Tasteless(Nick). They will use English SC2 client to observe the plays.
I am aware that I mentioned there is a possibilty we will provide low quality streams for free as we did for BW Gomtv Classic. However, for GSL all streams and VODs will be charged. There will be two versions, a high quality one and a low quality one. You can choose depending on your computer and internet performance.
Also you can buy tickets to watch the streams on your iphone. Understand that the streams and VODs will be provided to members only, which means you need to join and sign in for our service. The first games for every match will be provided without charge. For specific informations visit http://www.gomtv.net/2010gslopens1/premiumzone/Service.php
Lastly, although we will keep track of your opinions here in TL, we would appreciate if you could write your feedback directly on our site. As we are just beginning our service overseas, such feedbacks are extremely valuable to us. The more information you post at www.gomtv.net, the better improvements we can make for following seasons.
Thank you,
Gretech, GomTV e-Sports Division junkka@gretech.com

Is that each episode/stream you watch charged. Or you pay once you're allowed to watch them all?
|
i hate to be mr. "wha wha complain" but you will loose SOOOOOO many viewers when there ain't no free stream sorry buts its the truth....
i really hope you will seriously reconcider this, GSL is the biggest step in SC2 so far
|
Oh wow just looking for this info... not happy I found it though ![](/mirror/smilies/frown.gif) I dont want to pay to watch SC2... put advertisements in the videos to make money, charging per view is not how this has been done before with BW...
|
watching SC is great and all, but I don't think I'm at the point where I'm going to pay to watch it. Looks like I'm not seeing any games from this tourney.

However, I'm okay with the stream having a fee, but I'd like some clarification here. We're going to have to pay to watch the vods as well, not just the stream? If so, that's really, really, really, really bad news ![](/mirror/smilies/frown.gif)
Live stream tickets and VOD tickets are sold seperately.

You can either buy tickets for the whole season or for 1 day.

edit: actually I think you would make more money with free stream + ads rather than charging stream. You do realize that many people are gonna restream it for free right ?

Well, I guess there goes the hope of eSports and starcraft 2. T__T

GOMTV,
Your banner has the an incorrect spelling for "fly".

I wondered how they were going to be financially able to give away $170,000 in prizes a month. Oh well I will be happy just to know how things turn out. Gives me more time to play anyways!

You guys really think that taking fees in general will be more profitable than free streams (in addition to the ones with a fee on them) with commercials? I seriously doubt that...
|
If this comes out to be axiomatic, I think i have to continue watching BW. Sad but true... I thought it would be a chance to get to know even more about the korean gaming culture. For now just signing up, because there is something to hope for...

You might wanna consider offering a combined Live & VOD-ticket for the whole season, because I think a lot of people would be interested in that. Considering your current prices are 19,95 $ for a live ticket and 29,95 $ for a VOD ticket, I'd say 40 bucks would be a decent price for a combined ticket!
