1: Live means that to make use of the stream I'd have to awake every morning (or most) to truly get my money's worth. I wont be. 2: The speedtest showed that my connection to GOM is nowhere near good enough to actually watch in meaningful quality... not that the quality was that high to begin with. 3: The option to watch VODs over live means it could be extremely delayed in releasing them.
Not happening. No way. I'd consider pay for high-quality fast VOD's, but no way for that much with no legitimate time table to their release.
edit: I was really psyched about this whole event, and similar to Chill, I was swapping things around and figuring out what days I might sleep very early to get up to watch the matches live. Guess HDH2 will be soon.

then....why the hell don't we just watch this stream? or does it require a korean ssn? If it is confirmed free then no big deal. We watch Korean streams every day anyways. Gom seems like they know about as much about the internet as my grandpa. Is it confirmed to be free? EDIT: Oh, and the people posting on the gom forum, send emails to the address in the OP as well. He put it in there to get feedback presumably. His inbox is another place to spam displeasure.
Would like to have an confirmation too, with some sources. If it is, well I guess Tasteless and Artosis will have a small audience (very small), its really a waste.

TL users do it all the time with BW programming which I'm sure would still be considered Internet TV piracy. Although it's easier to justify since it simply is not available to the foreign scene any other way and it's not like ogn and mbc have any incentive to try and shut it down, that doesn't change the fact that it's probably not legal (hey I could be wrong, i'm no internet lawyer).
didnt they stop programming BW like 10 years before?

Tbh, they should consider going free for 2010 and then start charging an appropriate amount of money for a whole year season in 2011.
Charging right of the bat (yea, loving the Day9 phrases) is just wrong. Their stream isn't exactly known for being the most stable - especially for those of us in any other continent than Asia.

Correct? I think someone already confirmed that a season is only a month long. But I guess I could be wrong I think it's only been assumed at this point. but having seasons be 1 month seems rediculous. since if SC2 lasts 5 years (2 years beyond the last expansion) we would be on season 60 by the end of it? and if it lasts as long as BW hundreds of seasons???

I believe the Gomtv Korean stream will be free, as many people have said already. I also believe OGN's coverage of the OSL will be free, because both Gomtv and OGN have always been free in the past. I seriously doubt they will both suddenly start charging for their streams, and they're both in Korean. Which is fine, I love the Korean excitement anyway. XD

Your current PC Internet Speed : 229Kbps It will be difficult for you to watch LIVE at this speed.

No, it seems that a GOM employee has confirmed that one "season" is just one GSL tournament, which will be about a month long:

Good luck making any money off that GomTV. I'll be waiting on the bootleg stream or waiting for the vods to come out later. Make your money through sponsorship not by gouging your fan base.
|
I would consider paying if GSL was an established quality product. As it stands now we get to watch some amateurs (yeah some may be known but they're not on a pro level) so why would I pay for it when I can watch pros play for free (BW)? And really If I wanted to watch amateurs there's plenty of tourneys around (including bigger ones like ESL or MLG).
SC2 is too young and imbalanced of a game to be taken seriously (not to mention the coming patch that will shift the balance). There's just too many unknowns at this point and it was announced on too short of a notice really. These kind of decisions make me vouch for KeSPA even more - they at least provide a quality product and whats more important you can get it for free.
|
This is a joke tbh, i don't understand how they expect to get large numbers of people to pay for this. Not having a Free stream is one thing but having overpriced streams is ridiculous.
We are in a recession and they expect me to pay like $20 to $50 (if you want the VOD's). Which is around how much i pay for my Internet or TV.
If GomTv can't raise the funds through other means.. i.e. Sponsorship etc. Then they shouldn't even be doing this Tournament. The audience outside of Korea, is SC2's main audience at the moment. By having this payment model there is no way your going to get the majority of that audience to watch.
Like many people it looks like no GSL for me atm.

It appears Junnka posted in the wrong thread accidentally.
hey guys I am not supposed to say this officially but this is my opinion. the price does seem unfair and the quality may not be worth it. but hosting a server in US and provinding english commentary/subtitles cannot be done free. I guess many of you are not aware of gomtv's balance sheet past few years. we;ve been understaffed and underpaid for ages now. If we were hosting just one competition it could be done for free, but we have 2 more seasons just this year, and if we are to provide better streams for next season we need money. as far as i know no other gaming site will be streaming or if they do it will be illegal. I personally feel sorry how things turned out and although things might change in the future depending on the outcome, for now it can not be altered. I am not giving up though. i will continue to work to satisfy the needs of oversea fans.
|
This is actually just sort of bs, I mean it's really not worth it to pay PER season a premium + pay for VODs. I think they should have it at least free on lower quality or something like that, they are putting in enough money and trying to make the sport BOOM, then they try to rake in as much money as possible and limit the viewers... seems counter productive.
|
If it's monthly then i would like to show you guys something interesting.
a flight to korea is 600 + tax. paying 50 dollars a month for vod/stream access for a year is 600 dollars. why don't we all just go to korea instead.
I hope it's annual.
|
LOL @ GOM. Money: Okay. 20$ for one month? WTF!
|
I would love to post on gmtv-forums but it takes hours to load, my speed-check result was "22 kbps" while normal speed-test (on any european server) is around 12mbit. So even if I pay, I wouldnt be able to watch.
I dont understand why they dont offer a free low quality stream. I think the system, where u only charge for a high quality stream worked quite well for esl.
Thanks for making us "internet-pirats" again. ^^
Btw. correct me if I am wrong but i doubt any of the TL restreams have been legal before. Or does TL has any license agreements with MBC or OGN? Video/Audio content belongs to the artist (or the licensed network company), its just that they havent been interessted in any lawsuits since they stream for free themselves and they dont provide any special (charged) content for the english community.
|
This is what makes me laugh when people wonder why people pirate so much
|
Hehe GOM, you are not getting money from me and you will loose A LOT of viewers, gl with your "project"
|
Like it's been said, the best approach is to post on GOM's forum.
Hopefully they will reconsider their pricing before GSL Day 1.. :/
|
well, i would pay 30$ for all the replays and for all the VOD's in 1080p down-loadable plus behind the scene stuff.
also posted this in the GOM forum.
