lol they are crazy. if they think its smart to get maybe 200 people that pay instead of 50k+ people watching whatever.

restreams,youtube,watching korean version etc solves.

feels like 2004 when people were rehosting vods and you had to ask for the secret acc+pass here ~

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Oh well, can't imagine the torrents of the VODs will take long to show up. And torrents are much, much harder to silence then restreamers and youtube accounts.

hey guys I am not supposed to say this officially but this is my opinion.
the price does seem unfair and the quality may not be worth it.
but hosting a server in US and provinding english commentary/subtitles cannot be done free.
I guess many of you are not aware of gomtv's balance sheet past few years.
we;ve been understaffed and underpaid for ages now.
If we were hosting just one competition it could be done for free, but we have 2 more seasons just this year, and if we are to provide better streams for next season we need money.
as far as i know no other gaming site will be streaming or if they do it will be illegal.
I personally feel sorry how things turned out and although things might change in the future depending on the outcome, for now it can not be altered.
I am not giving up though. i will continue to work to satisfy the needs of oversea fans.

I don't buy it for a minute. Gretech bought the rights for SC2 in Korea. Knowing Actiblizz I am 100% sure it wasn't cheap. There's no way a company that is struggling would have been able to acquire the rights. They wouldn't be able to pay and I'm sure Actiblizz wouldn't be putting their property in such unreliable hands. If you believe this then I have some snake oil to sell you.

As to the illegal thing, I'm pretty sure rebroadcasting OGN and MBC is technically illegal. The internet doesn't give a fuck. I don't see anyone not tuning in because of moral qualms.

Yeah, you'd think Blizzard at least would want a reliable, global broadcaster for their new, shiny sport. They wouldn't just drop it on some company that can't afford a quality stream or find non-korean advertising dollars.

totally true. i wont pay a cent, i will just wait patiently for the torrents, which wont take long =)
how can you charge 20$ a month?? seriously i pay 6$ a month to watch all soccer matches in german league, and i guess having 15 matches a week in a big stadium is alot more expensive then having some guys playing in front of the computer....

Aww man this will really hurt viewer rates. Including me as a viewer, as long as it's for payment.

Guess there's always live report threads.

I just realized, they're probably getting more hits on their site now than they will during the matches. Should have put some ads up.

I honestly can't see how Blizzard would spend so much money promoting SC2 and obviously put a lot into marketing SC2 as an e-sports game and put their faith into a company which is either:

(a) incapable of doing justice to SC2 e-sports on a global level.
or (b) is committed to totally arse-fucking foreign fans thinking they'll make a quick buck out of it.

This makes me so sad. I paid for premium at both IEM and MLG but there is no way I can convince myself to pay $50 a month for GSL. And now there's no way I can convince my brother or anyone else to watch this awesome e-sport either. I was so excited for this tourney too .

This is the gayest thing ever to happen to starcraft II. And that from the so-called land of e-sports? It's ridiculous. 40€ for a game itself is not cheap at all, but half that price just to watch some (although awesome) games commentated by tastosis is not reasonable at all!

Assuming that the price would be something like 5$ instead of 20$, there would still be a lot people that don't even know how to sign up or aren't allowed because they are underage and what not...

Seriously, this will hit Gom TV super hard, and i'm for sure going to watch on OGN or restreams.

I will pay the 20 bucks if the stream is good, but it seems the connection is bad even with the Fiberwire connection I havce here at work T__T. I think that is the biggest problem, not the price.

this

blizzard can't seriously be interested in a company charging people 50 bucks just to view sc2 for one month; I mean, they can't possibly think that esport will grow if people have to pay effectively the same amount as the actual game itself costs just to watch for one month

blizzard is - or at least should be - interested in getting to the next level with sc2...because only then they will be able to demand high prices for the intellectual property rights; therefore from the viewpoint of blizz this makes no sense either

I´m guessing they have experience in this kind of bussines, but to me it feels like they will have like 100-200? subscribers, while a free live stream would have like 15000 or more viewers if it is at a decent time... i´m not sure what gives a bigger profit, but the site wont grow too much with this policy.
And, yeah, torrents wont take long to be avaliable, and theres no fucking way they could deal with that.

I hope at least the 64 participants are granted access for free. It's crucial for them to watch their opponent's matches, and if the viewing fee divides them into haves and have-nots, it won't be fair.

It feels more to me that they failed to do their research properly, and they're caught in situation where they're damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Maybe they should've been a bit more conservative about the whole enterprise to start off with, as all the hype that was built up looks to bite them back doubly hard.

Hopefully after failing to acquire almost any subscriptions in the first season, they'll come to see the folly of their ways and offer up a free stream. Though it's just not unlikely if they end up stopping the English service altogether. Poor Tasteless/Artosis though, I wonder what they feel like getting caught up in all this.
