thats a bad joke gomtv
it will come out like that: 50$ (stream+vods) ~ 20viewer 10$ (stream+vods) ~ 200viewer 5$ (stream+vods) ~ 2000view
obviosly a way lower price would have been better, a free stream should produce 50k viewer easy!
good luck with ur first fail season ... just hope kespa will be able to win the interest conflict with gom

I seriously can't understand why they can't have a low quality stream paid by advertisers, i mean this event can attract a huge number of ppl and you would think there would be a significant number of companies willing to advertise to gamers around the world...

It feels more to me that they failed to do their research properly, and they're caught in situation where they're damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Maybe they should've been a bit more conservative about the whole enterprise to start off with, as all the hype that was built up looks to bite them back doubly hard.
I highly doubt that - the announced prizes are so high, you can't do that without 3rd-party-financing ;everybody who has remote experience in the finance-sector knows what that means: there's just no way you can get this amount of money without a proper business plan; there's just no bank that would go like "ohh...you wanna make a sc2-tourney and need a couple hundred thousand bucks to pull it off....well....yeah, sure, why the hell not"
|
I would proberly pay 20-30$ for livestream AND VOD's if they were providing streams at a higher bitrate - the bitrate seems extremely low considering you pay for it.
I realy dont understand that you have to purchase VOD's and livestream seperatly, you shoud get both if you pay. Especialy since many people wont be able to watch all the livestreams considering the time its being broadcast.
I know alot of people in here just want a free stream, but honestly i dont mind paying. But the current product they plan on providing is just too expensive concidering what you get. Sure hope they take all the complaints into concideration, and lower the price or provide a free stream instead...

And i feel like such an idiot too. All along I thought that Blizzard had some huge plans going on behind the scenes to turn SC2 into the biggest e-sport ever. When I saw the original announcement of GSL with the enormous prizepools and the great casters I was so excited. I thought it was really happening, that it was in good hands.
Turns out the only plan Blizz had was to turn the whole thing over to a bunch of fuck-ups and then leave them alone to fuck it up.
I'm officially an ex-fanboy.

That sucks. Really going to dampen the spread of e-sports as new comers will never actually pay to watch. Even a lot of dedicated Starcraft fans won't pay for this.
|
I think this is a total shame, that with 2 figures like Artosis and Tasteless commentating we wont be able to help them out. The SC community has always been closenit and these guys are away working in this field, which would be a dream to most of us, and many of us wont be able to support them by affording monthly payments of 20+$..

I'm with you there. I posted a thread on the NA SC2 battlenet forums to stir up some rage. Pretty frustrating stuff.

Such a shame.. I really hope someone will pirate stream the GSL, because that is what they deserve for pulling of something like this.

Interesting idea would be if they didn't stop re-streams. That way they don't have to stream to the majority of the watchers (their servers won't overload again) while making money of the people that actually buys it to re-stream or have good routing to Korea.
|
TL should open an account for donations, so people can chip in till there's enough money for a HQ stream, and then stream it.

they won't be able to attract big companies for advertisement for following tournaments though
|
I'm very dissapointed by your decision. And as you don't care much about us let's just hope we'll see you fail again. Looking forward to watching some restreams.
|
What they should do is go to a few prominent Foreigner communities and say: if you guys give us 1000 dollars your community can watch this tournament with restrictions, like requiring membership in the community via having a private restream or somethign. so the starcraft communities could raise the money as a group to be able to watch. I mean what if each of us gave a few dollars we would raise that money easily here at TL. they will be rewarding the most loyal groups by doing so. i don't know though how this will turn out, i understand their need, but i don't think they could do this even to watch the OSL or MSL. i wouldn't pay this much for that. i might pay for daily access though, just to watch IDRA and TLO.

I guess many of you are not aware of gomtv's balance sheet past few years. we;ve been understaffed and underpaid for ages now. If we were hosting just one competition it could be done for free, but we have 2 more seasons just this year, and if we are to provide better streams for next season we need money. as far as i know no other gaming site will be streaming or if they do it will be illegal. I personally feel sorry how things turned out and although things might change in the future depending on the outcome, for now it can not be altered. I am not giving up though. i will continue to work to satisfy the needs of oversea fans. I don't buy it for a minute. Gretech bought the rights for SC2 in Korea. Knowing Actiblizz I am 100% sure it wasn't cheap. There's no way a company that is struggling would have been able to acquire the rights. They wouldn't be able to pay and I'm sure Actiblizz wouldn't be putting their property in such unreliable hands. If you believe this then I have some snake oil to sell you. As to the illegal thing, I'm pretty sure rebroadcasting OGN and MBC is technically illegal. The internet doesn't give a fuck. I don't see anyone not tuning in because of moral qualms.
I like the idea that we foreigners have the money to bail out gomtv and we can afford to pay 50 a month on a relatively small amount of entertainment, really I do I wish it was even remotely true, cause then I would have a lot more money then I do have. When the broad cast for next season maybe they will see that they have absolutely no foreign viewers and will decide to make it a free stream supported by advertising. Of course they might just stop doing any english content for it and that's that.
|
What GSL is saying to us is: "We deny 95+% of the foreign fans to watch anything of this."
Good message oO
|
would be more intresting if it was vods+ ability to download all replays.
|
I am really surprised that GOM shoots themselves in their knees like that. In any case, what pisses me off the most is the fact that koreans get it for free, while they are trying to milk everyone else.
