1. Absolute top quality of content, both technically and "artistically".
2. Be able to watch anywhere anytime, e.g. no separate charging for streaming/VODS, which is especially important because it is global, and there are timezones and people (yes, even starcraft nerds) have lives and schedules.
3. No ads, period. I'm not paying for your privilege to commercially brainwash me. No sponsor clips, no sponsor shout outs, no big sponsor banners in the stream. T-shirts and stage posters are unavoidable I guess. Ads are something I tolerate in free content, but nowhere else.
Agreed 300%
I pay for spotify and I do anything I want on PCs, Iphone, I can download, I can stream. No ads, and premium audio quality 192kbt/s (for 9$ per month).
It's a good deal imo, I stopped downloading mp3s that day.

Lol 500kbps for 20 dollars? Livestream allows users to broadcast at that quality for FREE.
I seriously don't get how they can justify offering that low quality of a stream for that amount of money..and then having to pay separately for vods? Jesus christ that is just pathetic. Seriously. Pathetic.
The pricing is seriously the most obsurd thing I have seen not just in esports, but in marketing period. www.espn3.com offers free HIGH QUALITY 720P sports, ad free (btw free replays for a certain amount of time too) yet gomTV wants us to pay 20 dollars for a LQ 500kbps stream and 30 dollars for vods. looll0l0ll0l0l0l00l0ll0

That pricing for that quality. Thats interesting.

so, can we just organize something where we all pitch in a little bit and have someone stream it to everyone else? those prices are insulting..

The VOD's point is sort of moot since they stop working when the season ends. There is no benfit to ordering both really, which sucks.
150 games for $50. Hmm. I bet I can find over 2500 for free. Yeah finding all those took 30 seconds.
I'm all for PPV SC2 but it's not the right time, and the pricing model shows that GOM may have not done sufficient research of the American market.
It is what it is but I will have to stick to recaps and such for now. It was already a stretch to buy because the time zone difference, and now I cannot watch VOD's at my leisure. When I watched the BW GOM Season 2, I was commonly a month behind on my vod's but I watched them when I could, and I'm 10x as busy now.
So sad, as Chill said my excitement level went form a 9.5 to 0.5

Ill gladly pitch in $20 for a pirate stream just to spite them :D

Gom.tv should have an option to sell the re-streaming rights for 200-300 dollars or something. That way we could all pitch in a little here and watch it. Just an idea.

I mean, is the first tournament that they are doing, i think they should've used this one to promote and make the fanbase of competitive sc2 bigger and afterwards trying to fee it. Well I don't want to defend the Evil Gom but they already did it and we all know it costs shitload of money to have the servers and bandwidth across the world to deliver HD video. I'm really ok with the fee and in my mind, I'd be willing to pay 1$ for 1 day or 15$ for 1 month. I think 99cts would be the best offer and 9,90$ / month, it sounds cheap and reasonnable. If they charge 2$ per game and 39$ for a month, it's a different story.
I see one way to get to know this
Gunrun provided 720HD stream for gamescon. If he could post how much bandwitch did he use for those few days and what was the viewer count we would know then.

I am definitely not paying $30 to watch a Starcraft 2 tournament. Sorry GOMTV.

Sad news. Hopefully they won't get many viewers so they will be forced to have a free livestream for the next tournament.

Only Prince of Dubai will be watching.

Is the Korean stream free?

One big problem I have is that we weren't just told that they're MIGHT be a free way to watch the games:
On August 30 2010 17:55 JunkkaGom wrote:Well I guess another big question everyone has is "How the hell do we watch the games?!" We will upload them on http://www.gomtv.net. It is NOT in Korean and you do NOT need to pay.
That's not saying "there's a possibility it'll be free" like you word it in the OP, that is just saying we definitely wouldn't have to pay. So we were basically lied to or things have changed dramatically really really fast.

I don't understand Korean business culture, it simply baffles me. Overpricing few weeks of game play will only result in piracy, restreaming, uploading vod to megaupload etc, screencapturing and so on. This goes in pair with Nada/TLO showmatch which should not be restreamed to Korea. Oh come on, it's the god damn internet, the same one with thepiratebay and 4chan. Worst case scenario GSL will be pissed about pirating their content and will close the shop with negative numbers on balance sheet.
