As a gamer, if I had $50 to blow right now, you think I wouldn't spend it on another game, or put it aside for my new build?

Jesus Christ, GOM is retarded.

I found the SC proscene through gomtv, and I have a lot of love for them for bringing english commentaries to the rest of the world, but this is just complete BS if you are trying to charge for ALL possible viewing methods of the stream/vods.

Give me an ad filled hellhole of an ad revenue cash grab site, even force people to click 10 of your ads before they can get access, but don't charge people for the low quality streams/vods...

People hate when they use ad infested sites, but honestly I'd rather wade through ads then spend cash.

Maybe if you threw in Super Daniel Man I would pay, but probably not. I mean come on, they are going to get so many sponsor offers in the next few months while SC2 keeps on rising in popularity... This is really unnecessary.

As for the "put it aside for my new build" thing, you'd think their sponsor, Intel, would realize this too. People who don't spend $50 paying for a stream, watching it for free, might be influenced by ADS to spend that money on an Intel product. It's unbelievable to me that with a huge sponsor like Intel they aren't able to generate ad revenue to stream for free. Ridiculous.

Personally, I don't mind paying. However, the prices seem pretty ridiculous. If it was $20 total for live and vod together, I might bite. $50 for 1 month is absurd for any entertainment channel.

What bothers me about this is that I have alot of "casual" SC2 friends, who I guess would love to watch professionally casted English SC2, but how am I supposed to spread this by word of mouth, "there is some cool SC2 in English guys, but you have to pay 32 pounds to watch it."
Its not going to happen.

Right now, the people replying to this thread, and the ones on the GOM forum are the hardcore, their is an untapped wealth of people out there that would watch if conditions are right.

Like the GOM classic before it, if this is going to succeed in the west, it won't be through mass market campaigns, it will be through word and mouth, through twitter, through gamer friends telling gamer friends.

As a StarCraft player who was more or less drawn in by the GSI, I would have been a crying shame if all the streams back then had cost money, I would almost certainly not be involved in such a brilliant community.

i would pay for this (VODs, can't watch live) if it were:

1. HD, meaning like 720P or 1080P.
2. ad-free
3. more big names, right now the only player with a really successful RTS history is Rainbow I think.
4. cheaper, $30 is too much for a one-month tourney, it should be $10-20 with free low quality VODs.

The stream thing doesn't affect me but that sucks anyway.

to be fair, gomtv is putting far more money back into the players than any organization in esports history in a single tournament. hate it sure, but if you want high quality, be prepared to pay. it's just the facts of life.

I think it's as season pass for all three tourneys they are holding this season? If that's the case, I will probably pay for the livestream.

yes but they are asking for a lot of money ($30 a month) for low quality VODs. Also despite the big money they weren't able to get a single ex-starleague medalist from BW to play.

I cannot believe about the fucking amount of QQ going on in this thread. Are there really people so shallow that they can't shell out $20 bucks for a Season Pass? And then people are making comments like "Oh god this will kill eSports'

NO...

You will kill eSports by not supporting stuff like this. As great as it's been to get free shit all the time from broadcasters, the community, etc... to do something of this magnitude takes time and MONEY.

GOMTV is a business at the end of the day. The fact that they are event catering to a global audience is a big step, and instead of criticizing it we should be embracing it. It really just doesn't make any damned sense to me.

eSports isn't a fucking torrent portal. You don't and shouldn't get everything for free. Just like how UFC has it's free content and it's PPV. It LIVES because of the PPV's. The sooner we all accept that eSports has to go this direction in order to grow to the level we want it to... the better off we'll all be.

It's really disappointing to me to see so many people bitching about a price that will ultimately deliver a ton of entertainment.

I think no one would've been pissed at this at all if there was any choice in the matter. Right now it's you either watch it at dubious quality for exorbitant rate. Or you don't get to watch it period.
