Edit: Sixers just clinched the 8th spot in the East!
What. The. Fuck. Incoming basement dwelling teams who wastes lottery picks for the next few years. Yay Wizards!!!!!
I cannot WAIT to see the fan reaction in the DC area once this goes official. It might battle RG3 for headlines for a night or so. Leonsis needs to sack-up and fire him.
Trying to mix up the discourse in this thread for the past 5+ pages... I find myself super mixed on the prospect of Lin winning the award while only playing less than 30 "real" games (with major minutes). Whereas Bynum took it to another level from the beginning of the season, or Ilyasova, or Roy Hibbert, or Rondo, or all of the other guys mentioned in the article who not only improved personally but improved their teams as well.
But then again, I'm all for Linsanity, so.... really torn. :/
Like all awards in the NBA with the exception of ones based STRICTLY AND SOLELY on statistics, the most improved player award is predominantly a popularity contest.
Lin brought the NBA a TON of publicity not just in america but globally. It makes sense they'd do this to keep the hype alive.
Not anything against Lin here, I like the kid a lot but this is just typical of what the NBA does.
Most of these I can at least somewhat agree with. This is off of Fox Sports.
MVP - Durant Defensive Player - Shawn Marion ROTY - Kyrie Irving (This one is a no brainer.) Sixth Man - Harden (another no brainer) Most Improved - Bynum COTY - Frank Vogel, Pacers. (IMO if it doesn't go to Popovich then Frank Vogel is one of the guys I can see deserving it. I would have said Doug Collins if the Sixers hadn't fallen apart in the latter half of the season.)
MVP- Kobe Defensive Player- Metta World Peace Roty- Jordan Hill Sixth Man- Matt Barnes Most Improved- Bynum COTY- Mike Brown Manager of the year- Ron Artest

Heh. For these sometimes the player has to exaggerate the impact otherwise the other players can keep getting away with some hard hit. It's not like in soccer which is far worse where the players flop to air.

Well, i've seen some embarassing flop to air in the NBA too, but granted, not as frequent as with football (yes football).

Yeah but flopping is punishable in soccer.. Problem is that the ref is pretty far away from the action most of the time.
They should punish flops like van Gundy said. Doesn't have to be too strict. Blatant flop = technical foul and people will refrain from doing that.
so everyone excited for PHX vs UTA tomorrow? gonna be awesome! I just hope it wont go to overtime so I can run to the mall nearby to watch The Avengers. lol

Wow...
Who writes these articles? How do you become a sports writer when your knowledge is absolute garbage? Half of the people in this thread would come up with a better list (not claiming they are bright or anything).
Do they even know what this award is based on? Bynum? Rondo? Srs?
Anyway, my candidate would be Avery Bradley. Guy went from barely a backup pg to one of the best defensive guards in the league putting up insane numbers and pushing Ray Allen out of the starting 5. Thats what I call improved. Where the fuck is his name being mentioned? Someone feeds off watching highlights on espn.

The flop is a problem, yes, but it is an incredibly minor problem. The real problem is that in the current Basketball Meta, flopping is one of the only ways to play defense against the PNR once the driving guard gets a step on you. Why is this? 1. Handcheck Fouls 2. No such thing as an illegal screen. 3. Bigs developing good outside games.
