I don't think its acceptable what happened there. One guy clearly did not want to fight and they pretty much just let Emery punch him a million times. In almost every other context that would be assault. This is the kind of thing I think the NHL wants to get rid of because it doesn't add jack to the game except to excite those fans who come mostly for the fights.

Emery is a fucking psycho, but everyone knew this ahead of time. I don't know what the hell the Flyers were expecting him to do when they signed him over the summer. Yeah he had some ridiculous numbers in Chicago last year, but look at the difference in the teams. Chicago has one of the better bluelines in the league plus some of the best defensive forwards in the league. While the Flyers have nothing even close to something even resembling a blueline. I feel like this may just be the beginning of what a shitshow Phili is going to be this year

Really? They brought him in to fight other goalies?

They brought him in to backup Mason who has been very good since he arrived. Emery was pretty good in the season Philly went to the cup but he got injured early. Also was quite good last year (of course on the stacked Hawks but still.) They hoped he would contend for the starter job with Mason and worse case scenario he plays ~20 games as a backup.

When I see my team get beat up on the scoreboard like that I want them to show me they feel as shitty as I feel. Watching Emery pound on Holtby will do for now.

What? He tried to pull them apart at the beginning, but then after Emery tried to grab Holtby, Holtby clearly wanted to fight so he let them do it.

What game did you watch? Holtby never even got his catching glove off and was down within the first 3 seconds of the "fight". And the ref stood their and watched all statuesque while Emery was dropping bombs on the back of Holtbys head.

Caps players should have ignored the refs motions to stay away and jumped in IMO. Fuck the third man in suspension and game misconduct.

Emery has always been a pos instigator and a shitty goaltender whose success can only be attributed to playing on good teams. The only reason why I wanted to see Chicago lose last year was because I couldn't stand the thought of this asshole having his name engraved on the cup.

I only hope Holtby is okay. Those headshots were disgusting...

That was completely the wrong move by Emery. There is little precedent for suspension because of this situation. It'd be tough to make it count because he's a backup, and has been terrible in the ~3 games he's played. I thought Emery might be okay in a platoon this year, but many am I glad Mason has been good. What Emery did defines goonery, and I don't want to see that mentality from my favorite team.

Emery is a tough guy. Washington shoudlve sent him a skater like the sabres did once after Emery kicked Biron's ass lol.

They should value goaltending skills over the brawling skills imo. It gives you a better chance of making the playoffs. Mental stability is also an important asset ( LOL @ Mason - Emery ).

For the 20k Flyers faithfuls at the arena last night that fight was probably the highlight of the evening too.
