Bertuzzi's 21 career goals against Edmonton are the most he has scored in his career against any team.
So weird to see that of Morrisson, Naslund, Bertuzi, its Bertuzi who is still in the league.
Players like Bertuzzi are rare. Big strong skilled power forwards will always have someone willing to pay them. Even if that power forward committed the most vicious act ever preformed on ice.

Controversial opinion, as awful as the punch was*and it was* I'm still like 90% sure it was the dogpile in the seconds after the punch that prob did his neck/back in.
edit* and besides, the most vicious act is totally Philly's own Bobby Clarke taking out the Russian dudes ankle, at least Bertuzzi in public seemed sorry for it, Clarke is still proud of being a POS.

He's had his share of injuries (most of last season with a back one most recently) but also had the entire 04-05 lock out off due to the IIHF honoring his suspension. Probably allowed him to rehab alot of wear and tear. That lockout is the only reason Teemu Selanne was able to play so I'm sure the time off helped Bert

I am just amazed at how Lowe is able to hold onto the organization as tightly as he has after years and years of ineptitude. He truly is the Robert Mugabe of the NHL.
How the fuck is toronto sitting were they are when they have 190 give away (36 more then next place Winnipeg), have given up 160 more shots then they have taken and average 17 pim a game?
The teams in the same area as TO on all these (and more I am sure) are sitting at or near the bottem

like when someone is shooting 20 or 30%, it will regress eventually

The thing I've accepted about hockey, and what makes it a very hard sport to have an emotional investment in (hard, as in punishing) is that the element of luck is much larger than in other major sports. And that even a full 82 game season is not a long enough span for those elements to regress enough for the numbers to be a solid metric.
I mean, yeah, we can look to possession stats and stuff like that and they do show an outstanding correlation with long-term success. But what we don't know is how many games need to be taken into account in order to make the numbers absolute, or even some-what determining. And then it becomes impossible to even measure because of roster turn-over, major changes between seasons, injuries, etc. Basically, we need better measurements, though it's a solid start.
Teams like Toronto piss me off because the engineer in me wants everything to correlate strongly with a measurable model. And then a shitty team gets good goaltending and wins anyways. Fucking hockey, dude.
How many times do NFL players say "the football gods were on our side today" or "you just have to chuck it towards the endzone and good things happen". What a bullshit sport.
Luck is definitely a huge factor in team success, but rarely does it make you a Stanley Cup winner. As in, there isn't going to be a NY Giants type team winning the cup any time soon. Even so, in hockey you create your own luck a lot. Sure, shots from outside the circle that go in are pure luck, and a .940 save percentage is too. But getting deflections, rebound goals, etc. is both part luck and determination. That's what I love about hockey, to be lucky you have to work for it. The best predictor for success is Fenwick (more precisely Fenwick close), so it's clear that outshooting your opponent is important. But it's that belief that shots create chances that can separate good teams from bad. There's a number of hockey maxims that are silly or outdated, but putting pucks on the net is still the best mindset. But for the love of god don't miss the net, Jeff Carter.
I literally spit beer out after Arcobello scored his first NHL goal.
What a shot... I dont get it. Kid has missed probably 30 open nets this season easily. Then he walks in and just snipes a goal with an absolute lazer from 8 feet out with his stick a solid 3 inches away from the red goal line.
Sharper angle than that goal kessel scored on the Oilers.
o.o
EDIT: WTF... The Oilers have movement on their powerplay.
Something is wrong... something is horribly wrong.

It's a little misleading. The bad pim's have went up in the last several games, prior to that most of them were fighting majors take for instance last year. The giveaways on the other hand and fact we suck at faceoffs on the other hand needs to improve and won't improve any time soon considering so many guys are out. Screw Clarkson. The Bolland/Mason additions were solid. Anyway, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.
