I dont even know... 16-2 this period alone, and the leafs have the only goal. All these ten bell chances, no goals.
I just... Gaaah. To be fair though, the Leafs scored the fourth goal early in the 3rd period and did what we do best... sit on our lead and cross our fingers. Had the score been less lopsided, the shot difference wouldn't be thatttt bad. I'm just glad Reimer got the shutout. The guy may not have as much natural talent as Bernier, but he works his ass off and deserves so much credit. But yeah, the Leafs bandwagon is always open to you Oilers fans
To be fair, last time we played the shot disparity was even more in favour of the Oilers.
Just saying.

When haven't we been outshot this season? >_<

Watching Edmonton games makes me want to rip my eyes out. I was at work and only got to watch bits and pieces and every bit I saw The Oilers turned the puck over, fell down for no reason or took a penalty.
Im shocked the shot total was so lopsided. Im not shocked the score was

Who wouldnt have, hockey players at that point still believed Holland and Babcock knew what they were doing instead overelying on two close-to-retirement D-men. You're really starting to sound like Jimmy the way you harp on about Detroit constantly. harsh and unfair. Detroit has been a franchise in peril for the last 3 years, but it hasnt stopped the casual NHL watcher or the broadcasters from talking about what a great GM Holland is and how year after year they keep steady. They arent. They are getting worse. And a large part of that is Holland's addiction to older players that not only suck but eat up ice time from young players that you might want to eventual play. Even when they make big money signings, the signings are for unnecessary players like Alferdson and Samuelson. Its especially annoying because its pretty obvious that we are in the twilight of Datsyuks' career and as things are going he will never win another cup. Secondly, Alfredsson has 10 points in 12 games so far. Samuelsson's been on IR pretty much the entire time back with Detroit, but $3 million for a 40+ point player is perfectly reasonable. You complain about Detroit getting worse. Every team gets worse. You think that a team can make the playoffs for over 20 years straight and continually get better? He is on pace -- thanks to play with Datsyuk-Zetterberg, to be where Brunner would have been. For more money. But like I said, it isnt the issue. The issue is they have an awful defense, they knew they would have an awful defense, and they continued to ignore that while 'shoring up' the forward line with questionable additions. There is nothing wrong with missing the playoffs if it means that you get to restock picks, and there is nothing wrong with missing the playoffs if it means letting your 25 year old AHL'ers that presumably you still hope to use on the NHL team getting some experience over old veterans. The concept of 'make playoffs every year and thats it' is exactly why franchises like the Flames are such a disaster. Show nested quote + Look around the league. Teams like Carolina, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Philadelphia, , etc, were all amongst the top some years ago. So many GM's have had teams amongst the best in the league that some years later are near the bottom, yet the ONE GM in the league who consistently stays near the top is the one you constantly target...? This is like coming on here to complain every time Crosby makes a mistake on the ice.
Yea those GMs are outright atrocious. Just because I dont live in Somalia doesnt mean I cant complain about the way Canada is being run.
Like you said, that isn't the issue? You just said that a large part of the problem is that they sign older players "who suck and eat up ice time". Not to mention that he plays with Datsyuk and Zetterberg at even strength less than 15% of the time. His most common lines are with Franzen and Weiss, and Andersson and Cleary. Who exactly are these prospects that are so NHL ready but are having all their ice time taken by these older players?
Their defense obviously isn't the greatest, but it's not like it's the worst in the league or something, nor is there a limitless supply of top 4 defensemen out there to be signed. They sign players like Alfredsson because they're available to be signed. Good defensemen are in extremely high demand, and are not easy to acquire. You think Edmonton's defense is terrible just for fun, or that NYI want a top pairing of Hamonic and Andrew McDonald? If Holland could make good defensive acquisitions, then obviously he would.
There is something wrong with missing the playoffs. It means that you're not a Stanley Cup contender. Calgary isn't a bad team because they wanted to make the playoffs. They're a bad team because they wanted to make the playoffs but clearly weren't able to, and didn't act according to their position. Detroit's a team that can make the playoffs and be a contender every year, so they act accordingly. I mean really, what are you suggesting here? Stop signing players so that they'll tank and can draft higher next year?
Ok, so which GM's are there who are better than Ken Holland? How many other teams are consistently good? Chicago and Pittsburgh are in pretty similar situations; they were really bad, then because they were so bad they were able to draft players like Crosby, Malkin, Toews and Kane, and therefore will be good for a long time. San Jose's good every year, but never actually make it to the finals, let alone win a Stanley Cup. Vancouver's good, but they're on a bit of a downswing, and Mike Gillis didn't build the core of the team. So if Ken Holland's a bad GM, then is it just that nobody out there knows what they're doing?

The prospects he's talking about are Tatar and Nyquist, who are more than NHL ready. Holland still decided to sign Cleary for whatever reason.
The point is, the Red Wings are still a contender but most fans feel like Holland and Babcock could have a much better team with what they have. Holland has screwed up the cap situation by signing Cleary and Samuelsson, while Babcock is still trying to force guys like Abdelkader and Cleary into the top 6.
Personally, I would say that Don Maloney is the GM that has been impressing me the most for years. So for me it's easy to find a GM better than Holland. Holland is overrated in my eyes.

Why is everyone in the league trying to injure Nugent-Hopkins? It's like punching an infant.

A certificate that they can put on the wall? What ever happened to the participant ribbons? A certificate is too much man! :D

So is there an actual point where people will finally go SOG isn't everything and admit that the Leafs are actually a good team, and probably capable of a second round playoff performance? Because somehow both our goalies look like hockey gods when we're outshot by 10 to 20 and yet we still pull off wins, and wins by 2 goals or more even. It's kinda cringey to ever admit it (after the last 10 seasons) and after how they look like in their zone, but they're winning games...
