let me adjust the hotness vector as i compute Miller's WAR. Yeah, thats what I said, wasn't it? If you take a look at Miller though, he shows this trait more so than most. Man, that Oilers - Avalanche game was depressing. The Oil put a run together there where they gave a shit. They out a run together where they worked damn hard every night, where they made their opponents pay a price for ice and to win the puck battles. They were making smart simple plays, not forcing derpy toedrags and dangles. They were making offense come from strong defence. But tonight, they threw all of that out the window. The Oilers gave away their lead for free with stupid turn overs, players committing to pinch without back pressure or other defensive posturing, and cheating for offence. At this point, I question the players commitment to winning at this level. Its just not there. I also think Eakins is an absolute idiot. We were on home-ice and our top line (read, only line that can score with our injuries) was outr against their best D-pair all night long. I should have known, Oilers fans not allowed to have hope. What were you hoping for, that the Oilers would join the Flames in the annual Spring push to a worst draft seed? Seems pretty clear that Eakins has no idea what he is doing with a team like the Oilers -- sort of like the rest of your management. Fire them, maybe you can beat the Canucks to the Shanahen-Linden intellectual powerhouse...
The sad part is that i dont even care if we win anymore.
I just want a team that doesn't roll over and die whenever something bad happens. I grew up on teams that were basically the Coyotes North... Teams that basically served as farm clubs for other NHL clubs but still made the playoffs because they gave a whole lot of damns.
Now I just have these fucking prima-donas and their damn toe-drags.

As long as ownership doesn't go full-retard I think most fans will take the next few years of mediocrity in stride.

Aquilini hired an unknown ex-agent so I dont think its too insane to presume he would rather have another puppet than someone with more experience who can ask them to back off. But if it is a Shanny-Linden combo, Canucks fans are going to go back to the bad old days of the late 90s.

Gillis was just decent when Vancouver was on the rise, but terrible since then. The way he dealt with the Luongo/Schneider situation, his complete lack of success in the draft (and then trading away Hodgson, the one player he drafted that's had any success in the NHL), the Grabner trade, etc. When Vancouver was a dominant team, he acquired Ehrhoff, Hamhuis and Samuelsson. Other than that, it's just been nothing but bad times.
|
also, not that it should be a surprise to anyone, but the Leafs are officially out
|
the sedins were drafted in the late 90's. The good ol days of having 2nd and 3rd overall pick.

Well, if they get an aggressive GM who moves Kessler to a Penguins team that gets bounced by Boston yet again and is desperate for something that is splashy but doesnt address their weakness -- fluery -- then who knows how quickly they recover. But this certainly isnt like the year when Nonis got fired, this team is a lot weaker and there arent 2 super stars in the wings ready to randomly go from 70 point guys to 100+ point guys while elevating some 3rd line biter into a first line forward.

keep your 'partial' ... differential equations
out of this 'thread'. goal differential is pseudo 'science' neck-beard black-magic that no 'one' actually under 'stands'...
the only way to 'understand' ... the game is to watch it james reimer get his 'bell' 'rung' in red kelly's living room.

'please' quantify CUP 'differential' and then we can start talking

any theory is judged by how accurately it reflects the reality it hopes to model. from that you can form opinions on specific players and make predictions...
listening to the author's off-base comments about goaltending in general and Miller, Quick, Reimer, and Bernier in particular i have no idea if these "advanced stats" are contributing to the guys incorrect assessments of even the most basic facts. or is it that the guy is busy trying to run around making comments about thousands of players on dozens of pro teams in a myriad of sports.
i'm not sure how much tragedy i can take in 1 week. first the maker of FIre Pro Wrestling Dies. Then, Mike Gillis gets fired Then, The Leafs get knocked out of the playoffs, Then, The Ultimate Warrior dies. rough week.
Gillis has been making bad moves for a few years greasing the skids on the Canucks demise. Gary Roberts take on things was entertaining. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/gary-roberts-cody-hodgson-mike-gillis/ its bad moves like these that proved to be the beginning of the end for Gillis
Bye Bye Mike... it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
i guess they're going to name Linden as prez in 2 hours.

Trevor Linden named President of of Canucks. Guess hawking contact lenses qualifies you as a great hockey mind, just like Kevin Lowe.

He runs a fairly successful chain of gyms here and was former president of the NHLPA so it isn't hopeless but yeah hope he gets some experienced help.

The Linden hiring would be more worrisome if he were Gm instead of Pres. Obviously having more experience would be desirable... but who knows.
Whether or not it is a bomb depends on who he brings in as GM
also, since everyone loves advanced stats and graphs!

hahha that graph's scale is great.

Seems pretty clear so far unless there is some magic button Miller presses to be good that that trade was a major win for the Sabers, parlaying a guys reputation from 2-4 years ago into a boatload of picks. where is that guy that was whining about Team USA putting QUick in net instead of Miller and not using Miller at all i think Reimer is now over his latest concussion. I was one of those ppl, but back then Miller was beasting it, and Quick was struggling. All polls back then showed that Miller had more support btw. Miller was amazing when he played for Buffalo. He's still 92% overall, which is better than Quick. I would pick Quick right now, not because I have changed my mind about who is better. Why would I change my mind based on 20 games? That's just stupid. I would pick Quick because he's better right now. Actually, I would pick Bishop as the main, and Schneider and Quick as reserve goalies.
Long term, Quick has a lot to prove still, before he gets put on the same level as Miller. Same thing with Bishop and Schneider. Goalies tend to come and go, so you have to be weary.

This is my first official opportunity to write to you. I want to say how delighted I am to be back with the Canucks and how excited I am about the future.
As an important member of our Canucks family, I know you have a deep personal interest in everything that is going on and our plans for the coming season. As one of my first connections with you, I’d like to invite you to a special Q&A session on Canucks.com this Friday, April 11 at 12 noon. This video webcast will give me an opportunity to answer your questions about the team, and discuss our vision moving forward.
I understand that you have renewed your 2014.15 Canucks membership. Thank you for your tremendous support and loyalty, as it enables us to compete each and every year.
It is my goal to ice a Canucks team you can be proud of, but actions speak louder than words. Your 2014.15 ticket membership deposit will be fully refundable until July 11, which is after the NHL Entry Draft and the start of free agency so that you can be confident in what we are doing to build a winning team.
I can’t wait to get started and I am eager to hear from you about all your questions and concerns. You can submit your questions directly to me using the button below.
Nice that you can get a refund a week into free agency (not that i'm even on the waitlist).
