There are many times on ladder, where I'll be winning a game, and the opponent will pause without explanation, just to try to annoy me. I don't see anything that could be so urgent, you couldn't take the time to write "brb 1 min" or something like that, to let me know that you are in fact leaving your computer and are coming back, not just being juvenile. Sure. But they only got 3 pauses and what's the big deal? Also, everyone is assuming I'm just gonna pause and walk away. brb or one sec is pretty much a given I'd assumed, but apparently not.

I always feel so BM when I have to unpause and then ask if he's ready lol.... I think you have to exit the menu first after pausing, after which you can chat normally. This will not unpause the game. btw, you can also pause and unpause with the 'pause' button on your keybord.

I had a phone call from my landlord the other day during a ladder game (I usually just check who is calling and ignore if its not something important) but I had been waiting on this call all day. I asked pp before I paused and explained what was up while I answered the phone, apologized when I was done (took about 2 min) and asked if he was ready. Luckily he was cool about it

I was born without one! I guess you will lose your hand but I won't! fair trade right?" "we should pay the same amount of taxes, but wait, your income is a fifth of mine! LOL not my problem!" "I as zerg didn't build any army units for 20 minutes, you as terran should show me the curtesy to do the same." "Hey! you killed 40 of my workers, thats not fair because you didn't invest 40 workers into that attack!" see where I am going? Nope. You gave us 4 weird examples that didn't make any sense, and had nothing to do with holynorth's view of commitment.

Besides, if Im ahead, why would I want to let my opponent pause and let him regain mental stamina and possibly come op with a new plan? It changes the balance the game in such situation.

Whenever someone pauses randomly, i snap hit the unpause button. If they ask first, then I let them pause it for up to 5 mins. Also, I'd suggest letting other people pause. If you let them pause, say 'sure thing, so long as you do it for the next person that asks'. There isn't a person on earth who can play without 100% ever needing a pause, and if you pass that on, then everyone will let everyone pause (eventually :} ) gl hf ^^

Should we just proceed with waiting without knowing what has happend? I believe its BM to pause and not say anything Exactly, if someone pauses and doesn't say anything before or after 5 seconds I unpause. Just a "sec please" is more than enough.

Wouldn't you just pp and pause? If the guy isn't willing to then too bad? It's only one game of the many that you'll be playing and if you lose, so be it.

I would usually only wait a couple minutes and then I unpause, Its not my-concern what my opponent is doing and its not my responsibility to wait for him to finish whatever he is doing.

I'm just going to take your examples: the phone or the doorbell will ring, a. They can leave a message if it's the phone. If it's critical, you need to quit out and get to the critical phone call. b. If it is unexpected company, they should have showed up unexpected. If they are there to occupy your time, you should quit out and give up b/c you can't play properly after they come in anyway. the baby will cry, a. OK, I have kids and I know there is no way around this. Sometimes you are taking a break from the kids and the kids suddenly freak out or whatever. I can't complain, because there is nothing you can do about this. Kids = chaos. my mouse battery will suddenly die, etc etc. a. Never use a wireless mouse for gaming. #1 reaons, the battery may die. But naturally, I'd rather more ppl play and pause than not play... so do what you must. But you'll just have to accept that pausing ruins the game for some people, and they will only tolerate so much.
