Expect value, a statistic term, is not learned or at least not learned in depth before couple years of high school. I've tried so many times and believe me, I've played enough games but I've never saw any shiny pokemon save for the default red gyarados. I really wanted to see one too, even if it was a magikarp. Stupid astronomically low chances...

Expected value is the average profit you get from doing a certain task. This means that every single person in the world will end up having the same overall EV in their lives, however it's spread differently. Usain Bolt has spent all of his EV on running good at running, thus he will very likely die very young or just have a shitty life. Michael Jackson and Tiger Woods are also good examples. While Expected Value can never be manipulated (this is why poker is purely luck based) you should actively count your EV points to see if you're currently on the negative or not. Did you trip on a banana peel on your way to the grocery store? By causing this misfortune you gained future expected value thus your chances of winning the lottery just went up by kilometers! Similarly your bad luck at the Pokeman field will lead to your life treating you well in the other sides of life. Math is very difficult and thus edumacation is important. Remember kids stay in school and buy a lottery ticket after a streak of badluck!! edit: No I wasn't serious and I sincerely apologize if this resulted in some unfortunate little boy running to the nearest store to buy lottery tickets. (if you win I demand 50% though.) Thanks for explaining. I am a graduate student in statistics. Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, one of the best pokemon in the game (not to mention easily obtained; thus giving you the flexibility to find one with good nature/IV). If it wasn't for the easily obtained Red Gyarados in HG/SS, a shiny Magikarp would have been one of the best finds possible.

I never said anything except I would've loved to see any shiny pokemon, regardless of what it was.

If you liked the originals you'll probably love these mainly because it brings back a bunch of older memories but it's also just an amped up version with: -Better graphics -More/different features -Better multiplayer I wouldn't really think of it as a new game but more like a restored/enhanced version.
