Pokemon, both games and manga/anime, was good when there was only 151 of them.

More than 151 pokemon is BULLSHIT.

Red and Blue are the real games, the rest is BULLSHIT.

The 3rd series turned out to be the best one tho. I also ended up with 5-6 shiny pokemon in my stables on Sapphire, I dissed ruby when the first random encounter (no pokeballs, just got the 1st pkmn) was against a shiny poochyena-.-

Truthfully I've never came across a shiny pokemon either. And I've played enough that if its a 1/8000 chance I think I shoulda seen one. I fell your pain brother.

Hahahahaa.

I'm playing through Emerald right now, i want a shiny Sandshrew so fucking bad

Why do you want a Sandshrew? It and Its evolved form, Sandslash, have very poor stats.

Maybe you want STAB on Earthquake? But I think there are many pokemon which is Ground type and has far superior stats.

Sandshrew and Sandslash are my favorite pokemon, fuck stats - Sandshrew is badass

Pokeradar seriously increases the shiny chance??
But isn't it only in the D/P/P generation games?

You can increase the likeliness of encountering a shiny from 1 in 8000 to about 1 in 200 using the pokeradar. It's done by chaining and there are probably a number of guides in and around the internet (smogon, gamefaqs, etc). And yes, it only started with the 4th generation as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: Spelling... and more spelling.

I have a friend who saved before Ho-oh on heart gold and resetted until he caught a shiny one. He must have literally reset it a couple thousand times, and I may be understating.

I got a shiny crabby from a rock smash and accidentally killed it with my massively overpowered pokemon...

Pokemon has never been the same for me

I woulda fucking loved that kingler to death

edit: was in silver, back in the day.

To all comments that anything more than 151 is bullshit... I agree but for the following generation.

When the next group came I was like WTF BULLSHIT and hated it, but I was just overly resistant to change. I then became accustomed to it but.... now they just keep making more and more and IMO anything post gold/silver is fucking bullshit.

When my younger brother (10 years old) found a shiny pokemon for the first time, he didn't even know what it was, but he got so excited he somehow bumped the gameboy against a table or something, which froze his game, and when he turned it back on his savefile was corrupt. It was pretty funny for me. I never found one, but I never really spent the time to look for one.

OP

I am a self taught mathematics guru thanks to poker and I've learned about this magical thing called Expected Value. Expected value is the average profit you get from doing a certain task. This means that every single person in the world will end up having the same overall EV in their lives, however it's spread differently. Usain Bolt has spent all of his EV on running good at running, thus he will very likely die very young or just have a shitty life. Michael Jackson and Tiger Woods are also good examples.

While Expected Value can never be manipulated (this is why poker is purely luck based) you should actively count your EV points to see if you're currently on the negative or not. Did you trip on a banana peel on your way to the grocery store? By causing this misfortune you gained future expected value thus your chances of winning the lottery just went up by kilometers! Similarly your bad luck at the Pokeman field will lead to your life treating you well in the other sides of life.

Math is very difficult and thus edumacation is important. Remember kids stay in school and buy a lottery ticket after a streak of badluck!!

edit: No I wasn't serious and I sincerely apologize if this resulted in some unfortunate little boy running to the nearest store to buy lottery tickets. (if you win I demand 50% though.)

How will this result in the OP obtaining a shiny pokemon?

I've caught a shiny ekans in silver version before, didn't bother raising it because 1) poison pokemon generally sux 2) ekans sux.

Speaking of ekans, ekans backwards = snake! arbok backwards = kobra!
... then MUK backwards is...?

Puosu, I don't think expected value works that way. Being good at something does not necessary means bad at others things.

I'm pretty sure most poison pokemon such as ekans were put in the game to assure that everyone from team rocket has some scrub pokemon for you to gain some easy exp. with.

So lucky hahaha
