An assassin can blow up another assassin/support/specialist in seconds. When you're out of position and zerathul suddenly decloaks next to you, you're dead before you even realise it. 5on5 teamfights are a lot slower though. That doesn't mean that they are boring (at least to me), they are just different. Fighting over a tribute on Cursed Hollow for several minutes is the most fun I've had in this game. Fights will probably become quicker over time though, when teams figure out that focusing the healer is better than focusing tanks etc.

Just to nitpick grammar, though: + Show Spoiler + Heroes follows the basic design of all modern MOBAs, it pits ten players in two teams of five against each other, where they compete for resources and attempt to kill each other. The comma after "MOBAs" should be a semicolon. improvement you take, Improvements Accidental comma instead of a period. Mercenaries are a defining and vital feature of Heroes. To anyone familiar with other MOBAs, the idea of a "jungle" and neutral creeps is very familiar, however Heroes' unique twist on a traditional mechanic makes the mercenaries ever more vital. The comma after familiar should be a period (or semicolon, maybe). they out range all buildings Outrange is one word (not sure why TL disagrees...) All maps have some common features however, forts are of course present in every map, and grant exp to the team that brings them down. Run-on sentences seem to be a theme :D. Towers and Forts have ammunition, which regenerates slowly over time, this means that it is possible to force a tower or fort to run out of ammunition firing on... Its not unheard It's, not Its. There are two ways to get doubloons (coins), the first, and the one newer players often think is the only... Ya, I'm gonna stop pointing run-on-sentences out. Its also nice to It's, not Its. Anyhow, seriously, I really enjoyed the writeup. Thanks all! Edit: More discrete, mb . I'm glad you liked it, and as a rule of thumb I don't mind grammar corrections, god knows I can always improve as a writer, but I'd appreciate it if you PMed them next time. I've really been enjoying Kerrigan and Nova lately. Kerrigan is awesome because she's just an epic killer of minions and heroes alike. I run out of health a bit, so having a healer is nice to avoid trips home, but other than that, she is just wicked strong. She can solo pretty much anything in a straight fight, but has to watch out for Nova/Zeratul doing wicked burst damage if she's hurt. Still not sure why her skills are completely unrelated to her BW or SC2 skills, but hey. This is more of a primer for people who don't have the game yet, general discussion should stay in the other thread, although if you want some discussion in the context of what was talked about in the post, that's totally fine :D Nova is Kadaver's favorite hero so far though, he reliably gets the highest killcount in games I play with him, he apparently really likes taking the poison talent because it adds to the burst. On April 28 2014 17:07 Destructicon wrote: I loved the concept of Heroes from the very beginning. Being into almost all Blizzard games for the past couple of years and having fallen head over heels for several of their well build characters I love being able to pit some of my favorites against each other. I also love the map and merc system and I think its the most unique and refreshing spinoff to the MoBA franchise in decades The one concern I had when going into this article, now partially dispelled, was that, with the lack of an item system in the game the game would not have enough depth and feel shallow. I wasn't concerned about the laning phase and lack of last hits, the map objectives actually add a significant enough new element that it more then compensates. Now, you said that there is a lot of surprising depth to the game, and I love the flexibility of taking the same hero and being able to use him on each map by tuning his talents. However I do have one important question, given that the game is still in alpha, and still not figured out, aren't you afraid that, at some point, the talent system, per hero and per map will be so well understood and figured out, that it will standardize and become the equivalent to how it is with items and runes now in LoL? And if the talents pick per hero becomes standardized, do you think it will detract from the experience of playing Heroes? Or are the map objectives and short games fun enough to carry the game and keep it fun for a long time? I've thought about this a fair bit, and the realistic answer is "there's no way to know yet". Talent choices often come down to map and personal preference, but as of right now there are often very clear cut "best" choices at certain levels, this is because its very obvious blizzard hasn't tinkered with them enough yet. For example, "regeneration master" is a talent that gives you 1 extra point of health regen for every three regen globes you pick up. Its awful, there's no reason to pick it up over bribe, path of the warrior or whatever specific ability enhancing talents your hero has at level 1. A large chunk of how replayable the game is going to be depends on how good a job blizz does on making most talents viable, even if only in pocket strategies. I believe for some heroes we'll see a certain level of standardization, e.g. its very rare that I deviate from my usual zeratul build, as it serves to give me great burst damage, but there *are* occasions when I could see myself going for a different talent selection, if I had the right team. Its also going to depend on how good blizzard is at rotating maps, keeping the meta "fresh" so to speak. Given the look of the custom game section, which is reminiscent of the sc2 arcade, and the fact that it has a "Featured Map" icon, I rather suspect that we'll see a fair variation on maps, especially if we get a map editor like the sc2 map editor, which I also think we will, there should be enough "freshness" to keep the game fun. To be honest, I expect talent builds to become much more refined once they're stable, but if its done properly, it'll still offer choice, which is at its core what makes the talent system enjoyable. Time will tell, I have faith in blizzards ability to get it right. Fights will probably become quicker over time though, when teams figure out that focusing the healer is better than focusing tanks etc. I want to elaborate a little on this, the game feels slow sometimes because of how important positioning is, which is one of the things I think might lead to it being a viable esport. Its so, so important to place yourself correctly for the fight that often times an engagement becomes about zoning an enemy out of an engagement, or catching a hero out of position. This means that there's an elaborate tango around the objective, where one team breaks in close enough to stop the channeling, or contest the objective somehow, but then gets pushed back. Because of the fact that all heroes have the same movement speed, gap closers become super super important, and abilities like diablo's charge mean that an over eager player (often me) can wind up entirely out of position, and die super quick. The game doesn't feel slow while playing at all, although early on I died a lot before I learned how to think about positioning and breaking of engagements at the right time. (I still struggle breaking off at the right time). There are no keys or invites for it yet. It's still in alpha so the only way to get in is to have it added to your account by Blizzard. The only thing you can do is to opt in to it on your beta profile settings and hope. And live in the United States. If you are not a streamer/progamer etc. pp. you won't get in if you live outside the States atm. If it'll go anything like Hearthstone, EU/the rest of the world will probably get in a few months after Beta has started. Not using Keys but doing it via flagging accounts does not really change much in terms of selling these things. Where hearthstone keys were sold for 200+ Dollars, you can now buy Heroes accounts for 250+ Dollars. Really nice writeup on Heroes, makes me wanna try it even more. Personally, as someone who comes from Arena fps where your average game is around 10 minutes I'm having a really hard time playing multiple games of dota/lol without getting tired/bored because of the long lanning phases and the huge amount of time you spent winning/loosing. I also really don't like the concept of awarding being ahead with exp AND better items and, again coming from FPS, it feels really strange to play on one map again and again and again. So Heroes has pretty much addressed all issues I have with traditional Mobas and I'm super excited to get my hands on it. I expect that when we hit beta the game will go the route of hearthstone with lots of keys floating around, giveaways, etc.

I guess you are right there is no way to know, I hope it turns out ok though, the ideal way to do it would probably be having 2 or 3 talents per tier that are viable depending on match up and map. I hope you're right and Blizzard can do a good enough job to get us to that sort of a place, I really do feel like they are doing enough things differently to really stamp their name into the MoBA scene.

You and your party pick heroes before it searches for opponents. Unlike other mobas, your opponents can have the same heroes as your team.

Before you are even matched with other players (assuming not in a party already) you get to choose your hero and then you are matched with a team of people who did not choose that hero. If you are in a party you pick heroes before you queue, so you have tons of time to pick who you want or decide who gets to be who.

Witch Doctor is the same way kinda. Gargantuan to push lanes and do Golems, spirit for team fights. Although I prefer spirit since its easier to do damage than grav bomb.

Here's is some of my impressions from what I tried: Stitches is probably the best of all the melee warriors I've seen. With his Q and his Gorge makes for almost 4 secs of CC. Although my favorite melee warrior is Diablo. Diablo has amazing peel. Muradin I feel needs more done to him to be as good as Stitches or Diablo. For starters his thunderclap needs a bigger radius. Nova is just amazing. Both her ultimate abilities are really good. Malfurion is just as good as well and at the moment my favorite champ in the game. At around lvl 12-13 his Q can practically 100% heal regen any champion that isn't a warrior and even then your looking at an 80% heal regen On the tech side of things. I would like for them to add a key bindings option so I can set the keys to my razer naga.

Recently tried getting into DotA 2 and just really couldn't be ass'd to relearn everything again (played a bit way back in the day). This was right up my alley. I'd rather do objectives than master trivial things like last hits, denies, and the order of my shopping list.
