We all know how people on these forums love to whine and suggest changes to the balance of various games, so I am interested with what people would come up with in terms of balance changes for chess. Obviously it doesn't make any sense as the 2 sides are the same, so I guess it is more gameplay changes, but you get the idea.
I'll go first: NERFS: - You can only use the double move forward for pawns 5 times. This change is self explanatory. The double move that pawns used is currently being abused at all level's of play. It makes it far too easy to attack in a game like chess. - Castling now requires a pawn as sacrifice. Currently, the use of castling is slightly too prevalent at the very top tier of play. This is a small change that will hopefully lower the usage of this move slightly. I will be watching the effects of this to see how the pro scene adapts. - Queens cannot be moved in 2 consecutive turns. Obviously, the Queen is OP. Too often games are based around moving the queen, which overshadows the lesser pieces. BUFFS: - The bishop can now take 2 pieces, if they are one behind another. I find bishops have not been well explored at all levels of play. This is an exploratory buff to see how this changes this piece. - Added new ability for the pawn, self destruct. (Destroys everything in one square around the pawn, kills the pawn.) This is designed to help promote micro within chess, and award good play with pawns.
Thoughts? : D Feel free to suggest changes and I can add them in the to OP.

As a player of the white race, I feel like the black race is too OP. Every game I play it just feels like the black race has better units. I suggest nerfs for said race, and buffs for my race. Also, the lead design team for chess has no idea what they are doing. Now I shall spread my opinion on the official chess forums!

The bishop can now take 2 pieces? Oh cool so in 3-5 moves you can gg your opponent as white.
How ridiculous, i hope this is a trollpost
EDIT: Upon further inspection i found a pawn self-destruct.

I think we should hold off making any balance changes until we have figured out chess with its current balance.

I think this game is too young for trying to balance it.
We need to know what the win percentage is by race too.
(Actually does it exists ?)
Edit : it does lol =>
It's imbalanced !!!! Also i think i played a hacker yesterday. How do i submit my match to review ?

Please take any complaints to the official forums.

I really hate that they haven't fixed black lag yet, white spawns quicker which is bullshit.

Can i create a new account with a spanish connotation and post my first post here declaring that Karpov and Kasparov are indeed hackers ?
Also my favourite player is the best and your's is utter bullshit and need to learn to play the right way !
By the way i heard that Kasparov has a nice body (etc...)

The game balance is fine, the problem is with map design. We need larger maps with more destructible rocks.

I reported your post. Because you have no idea what you are talking about. Please get off the wood league.

I do like the idea of a watchtowers in a game where you already have complete information
|
The map is clearly not balanced! The White Player has the advantage and I feel that when playing black there is no viable early pressure tactics.

I will cast it and upload replays.

"Obviously, the Queen is OP. Too often games are based around moving the queen, which overshadows the lesser pieces." you sound like you are balance whining at this point. If you can't beat a moving queen, either you already lost[and need to practice more], or you need to practice more.
However, watchtowers should provide a one-use ability. As soon as the first piece moves onto a watchtower the ability MUST BE USED or the player loses said piece.
Ability: You get to choose what move your opponent makes next. If the move is illegal then said piece on said watchtower is lost and the opposing player is allowed to make his own move.
This will create brand new games and strengthen the defense of black as he can prevent a scholar's mate, queen's gambit, and other strong white openings with a single forced blunder. This is balanced due to the ability of both players to use the watchtowers as early as the first move.

Pssht noob, if you can't deal with the queen, you need to macro more
|
it's obvious the pawn is op, you can just make them all game, and they one shot queens, wtf.
|
I propose we add another few abilities.
Give bishops mind control ability to control any pieces adjacent to them (like in real life). Make horseys kill everything in their path when they move, regardless of color. Give towers a ranged attack.
Balance achieved.
