Please tell ur friends, state ur opinion in this thread, rate the blog and go on reddit:http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/1i3p9q/top30_foreigner_ranking_july_2013/About me and the ranking+ Show Spoiler +Hi TeamLiquid (and reddit), I'm DiaBoLuS, a german low-mid GM protoss player in HotS (2x HotS / 5x WoL). I play sc2 since the release of the beta and I watch a shitton of professional SC2 – basically all major tournaments, many online cups and ladderstreams as well. Also, im obsessed with rankings! Therefore, i post a foreigner rankings for about a year now, and i plan to keep posting rankings on a monthly basis in the future. When i talk about „Foreigners“, i exclude non-korean asian players (chinese, taiwanese), simply because I dont see enough of those scenes to rank them, and they dont participate in your regular major tournaments too often. So you may call it a „Western Foreigner Ranking“ if you so desire. --> no Jim, no Sen, no Xigua! How do i make my ranking? Which criteria do i have?My personal ranking watches mostly on results, but also on how they where achieved. Also, ladder-performances as well as past, major results play a role in my ranking – as well as my general impression of a player (does he seem talented / cheesy / cant seem to show off his full potential somehow). Activity obviously also plays a role – you cant call a player you never get to see one of the absolute best in my opinion. Ranking system: roughly75% = my own rank /// 25% = aligulac.com rank. both ranks will be shown in the players pictures, comulating in one rank. So when criticizing the ranking, please talk specifically about my personal rank given, not the comulated rank, since the aligulac rank isnt influenced by me No votes this month, im a lazy Panda.

Nice, my only big concerns are maybe Dayshi, Sjow, and Strelok a bit higher.
Oh yea, Major too high.
Also, I miss the up/down arrows with the numbers.

I can't see any reason at all to have Major so high up there when someone like Strelok or even qxc doesn't make the ranking.
Was it the 0-2 loss to qxc, the 0-2 loss to Goswser or the 2-0 vs Theognis that catapulted him up the rankings this month? :p
He literally has only one map win against someone who is in the top 30 or even among the players that came close this month. Aligulac has him in 46. You must have a very high opinion of him to place him so highly.
Especially since your personal ranking places Dayshi in 25 and MajOr in 17. I mean, really. I usually don't disagree much with your rankings, but here I'm just like WTF.

qxc and strelok are both very close to 30, strelok probably wouldve been there if todays performance counted into it (it takes time to do those graphic thingys^^). Most pros consider MajOr a top foreigner - you have to repect that in some way imo. maybe i went too high there.
oh yeah, will add those arrows next month^^

Oh, qxc too. He's been doing really well lately.

oh yeah, will add those arrows next month^^ Well, I don't know. I respect pros, and I'm all about defending players with potential or whatever. And I'm usually one of the first who defends players who do well in win online cups and qualifiers but haven't shown much in offline events yet and says to give them time because they're really good.
But if you simply don't show results anywhere at all, then it's pretty hard to explain how exactly this warrants a spot in the ranking. Dayshi has 20 wins and 6 losses in Acer Teamstory Cup now and two all-kills vs Korean-only teams under his belt and reached the playoffs at Dreamhack Summer last month, only to lose to probably the best European TvT player LucifroN in a close series. MajOr trades games with some decent and a bunch of mediocre NA players. At some point you have to make a cutoff and say, you might be good, but the results don't support that at all at the moment.
Especially since you're always advocating a slow and steady increase/decrease in the ranking, you don't throw out someone easily. MajOr jumped at least 13 places up compared to last month without winning more than a single map against an opponent in the top 41 (and then lost that series because he forfeited).
I'm not hating on MajOr or anything, I kind of like the guy, but it doesn't make sense at all to me. Also, you usually want feedback.
Qxc has done like infinitely better in the last month, beating Kespa players and foreigners alike, qualifying for IEM and everything and gets a pat on the back. MajOr takes a map off Nerchio and is the 17th best foreigner in your eyes.

I feel like you are being affected more by how you like the player/ how famous they are than by the actual results :/
WAY overrated the zergs in the top 12... maybe even in the whole thing. Are you a zerg fan by any chance?

No Sen, can't take this serious even though the top 5 seems right.

Maybe try not hiding that part behind the spoiler next time, Diabolus. Maybe there'll be 10% less comments about it.

How stephano is still number 1 is beyond me :/

He was the best in WCS EU, so until they prove they are better than him in this season he is still number 1. A tournament like MLG, where not all the best foreigners play (only 4 europeans I think) isn't as good an indicator as WCS EU where they all play imo. If only Scarlett and Snute would also play EU.

Yeah WCS EU was a much better tournament than MLG. I mean, Hyun, HerO, Jaedong and Dear are pretty good players, but they're nowhere near as good as TLO, DIMAGA, Babyknight and Happy! I mean, if those guys had been at MLG then maybe we'd be able to see Naniwa compete against the same caliber of player that Stephano did...
|
snute should be at least in top 3. He has won the most money in 2013 for foreigners.
|
^^ makes a lot of sense when he lost to a NA terran horribly
|
Some people here are getting pretty mad at a guys opinion. Who cares. Some picks are clearly "wrong", opinion or not, but there's no need to get this heated up about it :D
|
eh, Lucifron is definitely best foreigner atm but whatever, number 3 works too. Also what tournaments did you use to rank moonglade? Havent seen him at all for a while now.
|
DeMuslim is ranked too highly. He still hasn't had a good tournament in a long time and he didn't do well at all at MLG. I don't really agree with Stephano being #1 since he has had minimal results for the past few months.
|
Still dont know why scarlett is on the list, shes on injured list, cant really include her can you?
|
I like the ranking, though I disagree with a few choices. A bit too many of the good ol' boys for me. The trifecta of bunny/dayshi/Lucifron is fearsome. I really hope they'll show the foreigner-terrans out of the darkness (more than sjow did).
