I hope this helps anyone looking for vods at the moment edit: wait, are the vods free or not? Usually should be up earlier. On another note, our EU rebroadcast is going live on twitch.tv/wcs_osl in a few minutes, but VODs will be there since I know there is WCS EU also!

You're by far one of the best and only qualified people to talk about these sorts of things in a well mannered way, but what you're saying about the map pool, is that really such a bad thing? Wouldn't it be nice if each region had their own maps made by their own nietzens/map making teams and then they all clash together in the regional finals? I can't think of anything I'd want more than for more community made maps in Europe and America be picked up for use in WCS Europe/America and less maps made by the GSL teams. There's enough time inbetween the finals and the regional finals to give people time to practice for the other maps they've not played. This for me as a spectator gives me a lot of benefits. One, every region of WCS has different maps meaning you'll get different games in different regions, not just the same games as Korea with a lower skill level or lower control and secondly it means the regional finals are a lot more interesting rather than just WCS Korea played out again with some foreign players in it. That sort of format with different maps for different regions also leads to map makers getting a lot more exposure and more chance of interesting maps getting to ladder. I'd be ok with the map pool being different if it weren't for the fact that at some point, all the players from all the regions meet up in a global grand final. It is them dependent on that region picking the map pool for the global final and I feel some of the players get short changed due to the maps picked and not being able to practice them on the ladder. I don't have any gripes with OSL or GSL map pools, in fact, I have some with our own in EU, but that isn't the point. I just think they should all share the same map pool if they are part of the same competition so as to eradicate any chance that one player or another set is compromised.

You still get the preparation time of OSL. WCS EU and NA cannot follow this unless all the players live close together. Flash said about Different formats GSL and OSL in Live On Three E164 (the show host by djwheat) he said like "i don't care each own format of league" you right, The rest 2 players of group are given more time to prepare for 2 days but i know players are don't care about that and that is kind of tiny part of the competition IMO you have to consider OGN is not kind of TV station that broadcast only StarCraft league in all day mainly they has limited broadcasting hours so, since begin the OSL they has been proceeds tournamenet to Try keep the attention and focused to the end of the RO16 to not comes determined result in the middle of group matches This is more good format to grap fans and viewers to keep their Interesting of game and it is more benefit for TV station like OGN i think that is one of reason why OGN keeps that format and i generally understand their decision

The last grand final was played with a standard ladder map pool with GSL-exclusive maps (Red City/Atlas) being left out. How could they not prepare for these ladder maps in which 90% was already in the regional pool? Pretty sure same would apply for season 2 with the exclusion Anaconda/Gwanghalli. Case solved, no harm done. You can make these two GSL clones as standardized as possible but just let us viewers enjoy this special Starleague, wont you?

Seems like a perfectly reasonable opinion. It'd be nice if WCS EU and AM took the KR map pools though since they're a little bit more interesting as they change around a bit more. ^^

I'd be okay with a single set of maps only if WCS AM and EU copied the Korean map pool rather than the other way around. Historically foreign tournaments are way too conservative when it comes to choosing maps, which leads to maps staying in the map pool for way, way, way too long. I'd rather see occasional misfires in a dynamic map pool rather than a solid but stagnant pool. Essentially, I do not want WCS to be dubbing down what is currently being done in Korea, and forcing them to adopt a stale map pool for the sake of conformity would definitively make those tournaments worse. I'd rather WCS Korea be the best it be, fairness be damned. The fact that the season finals leaves essentially no time to prepare for matches - which is more similar to the EU and NA Ro8/4/2 - surely has a much bigger impact than the map pool being slightly different than what the Korean players are used to.

I think one of the reasons BW was always able to show exciting matches because every seasons introduced a whole new map pool. EDIT: I also miss that some of those maps cleary favored a race, while others favored other races and balance was done through maps. Why is this never considered when it comes to shaking up the metagame? Why does it feel like this is something everyone is actually against? Seriously, I was sick of Whatever UFO Station by the end of beta yet it is still here. Having three different, dynamic map pools would help a lot to keep things exciting and Grand Finals could just use the ones that worked out the best - players (at least with this format anyway) should have time to prepare. Who doesn't doesn't deserve to be there. I don't wanna come off as an overly defending nostalgia goggled fanboy spouting shit but I feel there isn't enough respect towards (/thought given about) OGN, the OSL, and its format, which managed to stay on national television for a decade -- in a competitive market. I think that alone tells alot.
