Not only is this reaction grossly unfair to Stephano, I honestly don't think it is in anyone's best interests. I wouldn't go so far as to immediately condemn EG; I'm more than prepared to accept that this may have been a decision that was demanded by their sponsors. That being said it is about time that sponsors that are investing significant amounts of money sponsoring e-sports teams made some attempt to understand the demographic to which they are selling.
What Stephano said was offensive but it was not illegal and it didn't harm anyone, so the only remaining justification for this punishment is that he harmed the bottom line. Let's compare two courses of action for EG: the first is what they've already done. Ban Stephano from attending tournaments, forfeit the positive publicity he might have gained from those tournaments and push the comments he made onto the front page of Team Liquid and the top of r/starcraft. Judging by the number of people, myself included, who came upon this thread with no idea what Stephano had done I think it's safe to say they've also substantially raised awareness of what he said.
Alternatively, they issue the same apologies, fine him $500 or whatever, and LET HIM PLAY. Do EG's sponsors honestly believe that their are a substantial number of people so offended by Stephano's comments that, for example, they switch from Mother to Red Bull? Are Starcraft viewers really so thin skinned that they would turn their backs on EG over a tasteless joke?
I expect professional e-sports teams to be a viable business first and to give the fans what they want second, and frankly I think this is a decision that will lose EG and their sponsors potential positive publicity, create more negative publicity and piss off their fans.

None of your buisness, he wasn't supposed to be on stream. What precautions could he have taken ? "Bling, my friend, would you mind to turn your stream off ? I got a joke to say to you, but I would never take the risk to offend a few tight holes." So.... According to you, right when he signed with EG, he would "represent the company", for ever as long as his signature remained at the bottom of the contract, even when he's in France, prolly chillin in his bedroom, talking to his friend ? This is stupid and out of common sense. This US-ish "This is MY marketting product, if it doesn't please you, GET THE HELL OUT" is hilarious. YOU, sir, are hilarious by your reaction. Looks like it's something big enough to care when there're things out there that everyone in the world should be concerned about but no one gives a damn. Joke.

There are already jokes going around with a punchline of
'the difference is that santa doesnt come in arpil' If you get it you get it, otherwise i wont contextualise it as the whole situation is fairly offensive. And another example of pitchforking. they are trying to take a guy to court for murder and hiding a body when there hasn't been a body found. She could turn up in france. I REALLY hope she is alive BECAUSE this country need a shake up in terms of figuring out facts and not treating opinion and common sense as fact.
The point is MOST people will stiffle a snigger when you tell them that joke and then say thats terrible. They are right, but they still laughed.
People are very over sensitive about the ages of sexual maturity because it is a VERY arbitrary thing and as such most people at one time or another have probably had a situation where their guts conflicted with law when they were a kid and realize that in 10 years time this situation would be fine, but right now its wrong ... but i dont know why.
Eg a guy i know who is 40 just married a 30 year old. Is that sick? Not at all in this case. An 18 year old with an 8 year old is. A 16 year old with a 15 year old is rape in this country yet 16 on 16 is legal. 1 day can make the difference between rape and legally consentual sex.
So yeah its a very villified point precisely because its so arbitrary.
But dont get as het up over a joke about this when you really do have sick fuck adults actually going around raping little girls. Really stuff like this is good as it reminds you of the reality.

I think this is a bit overreacted. This was not supposed to be said in public, it was a joke and that it leaked through via a stream was a mistake. An excusion would've been enough this time. It's not that Stephano is known to be that kind of bad boy. I'm definately not a huge fan of either Stephano or EG, but I have to defend him here. It's pretty obvious that this is no serious talking and that this was not meant for the publicity. So leave it please as a mistake and carry on!

Age of consent is a complicated and controversial issue. Stephano should be allowed to discuss this issue. Joking about the issue is one way of opening it up for discussion.
I realize that Stephano admitted that his statement was a vulgar joke made in poor taste, but I have to consider this as a confession obtained under duress which simply makes me even more disappointed in EG.
I'd like to protest against this decision by EG. Could I please be temp banned now, rather than having to make multiple expletive laden posts protesting against this decision to show my complete contempt for it.
Are you implying that ABUSING children is even remotely debatable... as in there's a possibility that it's acceptable? O_O
I'm against the EG decision and all, but you've got the whole thing twisted up. The point of the topic is not if the joke was appropriate or not, it's if a joke of its caliber made in public warrants a suspension.

So did he rape a 14 year old? How are you all so sure it was a joke? Did the police investigate?

no because there is no reason to suppose he did.
It looks like you are asking because you want to know if police would investigate at a suggestion which forces me to infer that you actually want to do this or else you would not be curious.
omg another peado

I assume it was a joke. There's no evidence that suggests he did. He was only suspended because he made such inappropriate comments in public by accident.

Huh, I wouldn’t want EG to “tame” Stephano. Seems like he should have stayed on Mil.

You fed the troll there :3

I have said multiple times i don't judge him or want his career to end but you clearly didn't read all my posts. Yeah when your on contract things you say or do that goes to the public it actually does matter. I understand it was a joke and it didn't offend me for the 100th time i am saying that he should watch what he says sometimes ? Is it that hard to understand?

haha, nice one mr. satouri! to be honest, if i was 14 i would let you abuse me :D

You god damn butthurt basement dwellers. Do we really HAVE to act all offended about everything? God damn redditors.

Good move on EG's part. They're a business, and this is what they have to do to make sure they continue to be profitable. Hate to say it, but Stephano DOES have an obligation to make sure that only the intended recipients of his more dubious jokes are on the receiving end. It's really no different than making sure your mom doesn't hear you cracking, say, dead baby jokes, just on a different scale. It sucks, but what are you going to do? He should have made sure that Bling wasn't streaming, just like you should make sure your mom isn't in the next room. That's all there is to it.
Now, if anyone really feels like EG made the wrong decision here and Stephano has the right to say whatever he'd like to anyone, then email EG saying so. If there are enough of you to form a majority, then it will become clear to EG and their sponsors that Stephano's misdemeanors are not hurting the bottom line and they will relax their standards. Otherwise, accept that the prevailing opinion is that Stephano should watch his tongue.

You said you had no problem with what happened. That's what you clearly said. Sorry for not reading a 70 page topic that will be a 150 page topic by tonight. If people were actually wanting to cover their ass even in private, and "represent their company" (who the fuck cares), if there was a risk what they say would be mainstreamed, it would be a nice fuckin inner censorship. Don't want that, sorry. Give it a break, EG's decision, sponsor's decision is an outrage. Just two lines of written excuses for the stupid people that got offended would have been more than enough...

The community can automatically assume its just a joke of course, but if any single person in this thread were to cite this to their local police station, what would happen is that Interpol would direct this to the French authorities who would investigate the comments. He would then, if found guilty, be fined for writing offensive, indecent, or obscene comments in an online communication.
