Or play through IP / host your own server sort of nonsense? This will be a deal breaker for me, because for a very good looking D2 clone, $20 would be more than worth it for the endless hours of multiplayer fun. No real multiplayer = torrents for me

No real multiplayer = torrents for me taken from the official T2page: 'Play with your friends over the internet for free. No subscriptions, no item sales. And, our new matchmaking peer-to-peer service lets you find friends, start and join games for exciting co-op play. Of course, you can play single-player offline as well.' So i guess the MP system will be similar to diablo2. i could be wrong though

Hits from enemies are weak and hard to notice Cramped. It's way too tight in way to many places. Ranged enemies are annoying and they're everywhere. Killing things isn't as satisfying The merchants all have weird, poorly explained extra services, you can never tell what the best move is with your vender trash. Sell? Re-roll? It's a good game, but it lacks that certain something D2 had.

Blows. "So... where is Torchlight 2? Didn't you guys say that you were planning to try to release this year?" Well, yeah. We did - and we made a good run at that. We've come to the realization, however, that getting a game of this scope up to the quality and polish level we want to achieve is going to take a little longer; especially since we want to run a small beta before release to ensure that our launch is smooth. The first Torchlight was released in record time, but it had plenty of issues that a little more development could have resolved. We didn't have the resources at the time to give Torchlight that treatment. Right at this moment though, we do have those resources for the sequel, and we feel strongly that we should apply them to make this the best game we can make and hopefully one that you'll enjoy and continue to want to play in the future. We've probably had 18 months of full development time on it so far - not excessively long yet, as far as that goes. The amount of time we need to take it the rest of the way is relatively small. We feel pretty safe in saying that if you enjoyed Torchlight at all, this sequel is superior in every respect. Right now our job is to ensure that the quality level is consistent all the way to the end. Besides, you're all playing Skyrim right now anyway, aren't you? Or Battlefield 3? Or Uncharted 3? Or Saints Row 3? Or Arkham City? Or Skyward Sword? Or Minecraft? Or Modern Warfare 3? Or Dark Souls? Or Assassin's Creed Revelations? Those are awesome games. When Torchlight 2 goes live, we want it to be awesome too - all the way through. Source

The release was such a failure the CEO of the developers had to make an apology. They had charged $30 for a game that, at release, was very unfinished. Here's some RPS coverage on the affair. I'm very pleased the Torchlight guys have the financial stability it takes to see the whole process through. I'm even more excited about this one because of it.

http://venturebeat.com/2012/01/24/diablo-co-creators-quest-for-the-20-aaa-game-exclusive-interview/ GB: Why do you stick with a $20 price for Torchlight II, even though it’s bigger and has more features than the first one, like co-op multiplayer? MS: We felt like Torchlight I’s price point was a magic price point for that kind of game and we sold more than we anticipated. So there’s a market for a $20 AAA game. Our idea was: let’s just make games that feel like an AAA game and play like an AAA game, but strip away all the extraneous stuff and the expensive marketing campaigns and all that. Just offer the game for a $20 price point and then we think people will flock to that. They did it for Torchlight I and Torchlight II is so much bigger and so much better that I can’t imagine that people will be disappointed when they pay 20 bucks for it. And what we want most of all are happy customers that tell their friends about the game.

But probably only when D3 disappoints me, which I think will be unlikely.

Can't wait for this game. Multiplayer - Play co-op with your friends via LAN or over the Internet for free. No subscriptions, no item sales. Our new matchmaking service lets you find friends, start new games, and join existing games. And, as always, you can play single-player offline as well. Up yours, Blizzard.
