Hope you don't get murdered by someone who makes it look like a suicide. Pretty sure life insurance doesn't get collected in that case.
Well then I'll resign to my own fate, matter of the fact is yes helping is good but when it puts the ones you love in jeopardy you have to prioritize thing a bit
What everyone is saying is that refusing to help people who need dire, immediate assistance because you are scared of losing money makes you look like pathetic, also reading your fish thread, I guess you are a rich and sheltered person who doesn't have to deal with these problems anyway, because helping people in most first world countries doesn't result in getting sued. I don't give to charities, I don't help the homeless, I don't let little girls get run over by trucks and bleed to death on the street while counting the money in my pocket.
This is why I hate having stupid shit in the general discussion thread.
First, people post this only to cause general inflammatory reaction and horror on some barbaric people from overseas. Unfortunately for these people, sometimes somebody who actually lives there posts with a different perspective. Course, he gets attacked, not just his views but also him personally. Know this: just because you guys are hypocrtitical hikikomori stay-at-home assholes does not make you better than other people. Essentially, you're saying that its ok to criticize somebody's person via ad hominem for having a different point of view. Unless, of course, he lives across the world in another culture and was raised there all his life or anything. Regardless of whether or not he did, what does that have to do with perspective? On that note, as a Chinese person, I must find how you guys proliferate use the number 4 to be quite shocking. Should I go ahead and report anybody who has "4" in there post count because it offends me and is completely against my personal perspective?

If it's even a 0.001% chance I'd screw over my family. then I am no going to risk it.
so do you smoke? do you wear lights when you walk in the evening? do you drink alcohol? do you go to gym every other day and eat a perfect diet? do you keep your kid on a leash so she doesnt wander off (americans do this)?
at the end of the day people will do whatever they do, but you need to keep your choices in perspective with one another and recognise irregularities so you can move towards a well-defined set of values rather than letting yourself be brainwashed day upon day based on retarded things like "in 2006 this one time this one judge made this call that i completely disagree with and so do most people but im still gonna go along with it"
its PATHETIC how people let themselves be lead up one street and then the other . you should know what values you believe in and adhere to it. otherwise what worth and integrity do you have? you really are a sheep or a poodle of anyone and everyone around you. you are just a lump of meat taking consolation in your tiny little corner in the world until you die or until your situation forces change, upon which you latch like a leech upon the next control that is set on your head like a collar by some other man
i was actually wrong in my last post to some extent. when we were cave men we had a very social and solidarity lifestyle but, of course, we raped and murdered the shit out of other tribes whenever they came near and then wore their severed heads as relics.
so the same shit happens between nations, it happens between ethnicity, religion, it happens between people who live on one side of a rock and the other, it happens between individuals.
but it is not something we should be advocating after fucking 1 million years of social evolution. we are unique in that we can make our own CHOICE and recognise when we are brainwashed by others and recognised when we are brainwashed by our own emotional state.
that is why millions of people every day say GO FUCK YOURSELF to these dumb fake values and age-old idiocies that we still believe in as if they are the fucking perfect resolution for our confusing lives.
Uh, you're right that we can think for ourselves, and that's exactly what some of us are doing. While there are people who risk their livelihood for a stranger, there are others who weigh the pros and cons. I'd be more inclined to say that the people who rush into everything without a thought are the ones who haven't evolved past primal instinct. The ones calculating the odds are the ones who are actually using their brains.
Again, you only say that cause you've lived a sheltered life, and quiet honestly since we're on this forum, bad at computer games. When someone is about to jump you in the street good luck weighting pros and cons.
What the fuck, this shit disgusts me. You just take a fucking seat on your high horse and look down at everyone who doesnt agree with you, calling them 'sheltered' or even 'scum' what the fuck is wrong with you? You have NO fucking idea what kind of life chinese people have to live. You dont understand that kind of fear being bred and festering in a corrupt environment for years. What the FUCK gives you the right to judge when you never have and probably never WILL be in that exact situation?
lol. I've lived in belarus for half my life. I understand that shit better then you.
I've lived my entire life here in bangladesh, a third world country where law is more for show than use. Trust me, i understand what its like being raised and told from a young age to fear something and avoid it. Maybe not the same things the chinese have learned to fear, but i understand the situation of accepting atrocities as something that WILL happen to you if you dont react a certain way and defend yourself from it. You seem too idealistic to have grown up in a place where 1 mistake could mean you or your family are fucked for life.
Fucking hell don't walk away, let them try to prove that it's your boots have a tire pattern on them.
And its this kinda naive shit that makes me think that

Honest question - i am not trying to be sarcastic or anything; but let's assume the family sues you - and the '06 decision is reinforced and you are liable for 40% of the medical bills.
Is someone in your family going to die?
I think it's safe to assume that unless he's making a ton of dough his family has a real risk of being out on the streets.
Let's think of it this way, do you think it's fair to put your entire family out on the streets because you tried to save a complete stranger? Your family will have nowhere to live, nothing to eat, and your children will likely live their entire lives homeless. What would you do?
Or think of it this way, how would you react if one day your father came home and told you that the entire family is now going into poverty because he decided to help a complete stranger and you're now reduced to living on the streets with no future prospects?

Here is the problem that I think a lot of people that are not American think. First off I am not the one that killed civilians , a lot of our troops that do them type of things, because I am not denying they don't. have to follow orders, no matter what that is. That is the military for you. However our government is so fucked up we do bomb civilians / kill ppl that have nothing to do with a war. HOWEVER you are lumping all the Americans together.. you dont think that other country do this also? I am sure every country that has been in war has had civilians killed its just in the public eye for the USA, because everyone wants America to fail.
Also to your other point yes I would help whoever it is... I have helped someone dieing from cancer before ... choking on there own blood eyes rolling in the back of there head as they gasp for breathe. I think a lot of people when there adrenaline kicks in and FIGHT or FLIGHT kicks in wouldn't go into shock till after. However I worked in a hospital so maybe I was just more used to it.
This has nothing to do with your comment but I read someone say that they wouldn't help because of legal reasons.. I dont know if people know this but it used to be (still might?) if you where going to give someone CPR you where suppose to ask them if you could start CPR because if that person dies there family has a legal right to sue you also I think with the Heimlich maneuver also. But I would never just let someone die ever, if I could help that person I would in a heart beat lawsuit or not.

Get over yourself. People will characterise entire nations over 1 event just as not all people will dive in and pull bodies out of a trainwreck. Next time you see a car accident and see people filming it on their phones I hope you realise how few people share your view.
At least.. The police got involved.. But that might just be to look good in the international scene.

so do you smoke? do you wear lights when you walk in the evening? do you drink alcohol? do you go to gym every other day and eat a perfect diet? do you keep your kid on a leash so she doesnt wander off (americans do this)?
at the end of the day people will do whatever they do, but you need to keep your choices in perspective with one another and recognise irregularities so you can move towards a well-defined set of values rather than letting yourself be brainwashed day upon day based on retarded things like "in 2006 this one time this one judge made this call that i completely disagree with and so do most people but im still gonna go along with it"
its PATHETIC how people let themselves be lead up one street and then the other . you should know what values you believe in and adhere to it. otherwise what worth and integrity do you have? you really are a sheep or a poodle of anyone and everyone around you. you are just a lump of meat taking consolation in your tiny little corner in the world until you die or until your situation forces change, upon which you latch like a leech upon the next control that is set on your head like a collar by some other man
i was actually wrong in my last post to some extent. when we were cave men we had a very social and solidarity lifestyle but, of course, we raped and murdered the shit out of other tribes whenever they came near and then wore their severed heads as relics.
so the same shit happens between nations, it happens between ethnicity, religion, it happens between people who live on one side of a rock and the other, it happens between individuals.
but it is not something we should be advocating after fucking 1 million years of social evolution. we are unique in that we can make our own CHOICE and recognise when we are brainwashed by others and recognised when we are brainwashed by our own emotional state.
that is why millions of people every day say GO FUCK YOURSELF to these dumb fake values and age-old idiocies that we still believe in as if they are the fucking perfect resolution for our confusing lives.
I think there is no other way to live, especially in a place like that. When you have nothing, you only have your humanity to live with.
Fucking hell don't walk away, let them try to prove that it's your boots have a tire pattern on them.
And its this kinda naive shit that makes me think that
How is it naive. If they give a fuck about the granny that got knocked over clearly their law system is way more advanced then the one in bangladesh or belarus. If that's not true, by all means, i did mention the option to walk away.
