Thank you all for the feedback.
while I know it was done for fun, your dats is not really that useful since to my knowledge you didn't separate the races. P and Z average unspent will be much higher than T. Regarding the different races, I went into the project expecting that there would be huge differences in unspent resources for the same income between races. That turns out not to be the case - I actually showed that in the OP for Grandmaster players, and I wasn't able to find any significant differences between races in lower leagues either. It is perhaps counterintuitive, but SQ seems to be only very mildly affected by race.
Heres my question. Is the players that you selected for the leagues below GM been set in that league for a long time or just happens to be in that league when you took the sampling, because u have possibilities for some players who just got demoted in your sample and would skew the data to a certain point. It is possible, I didn't try to determine how long players had been in each league. I would expect such differences to average out across leagues, but it could have some small effect.
May I ask what programm you used for your plots ? I used Matlab for most of the figures.
Regarding the time taken, let's just say I'm glad it's now over.

Wow, this is a stat junkie's dream! Thanks man :DDDD
I want to know who the Protoss is who had >40 workers at 23 minutes into the game. It was probably just a PvP though

I would love play around with this data in SPSS

This post is awesome. Great effort and thought put into this. This is exactly what people need to measure whether they have improved or not.

wOw nice graphics! I don't quite understand the math stuff but I do understand the graphs

I'd like to know more about the data collection method for this analysis.
Did it require a human to sit down and click on all the player names in a division in Starcraft and type the average income and average unspent resources into a spreadsheet? Or did you create a script that can automatically collect this information?
If you had a script that can collect this data, do you plan on making it publicly available?
|
This is really cool, thank you for all the effort this must have taken.

For once i enjoyed one of these "analysis" threads. Will read into more detail when i'm not busy with work

some sort of weird double post, sorry

hahahahaha loved the IdrA bit.
You really did some fantastic work, OP.

Wow excellent work! Easy to understand and comprehend and very well written! That it still isnt spotlighted baffles me

I'm not sure if we KNOW for sure how Blizzard defines their ranking system, but at the end of the day, SC2 is a macro game and this could be a large part of the way they place people into leagues.
Maybe that's why after a few "Seasons" of the ladder, people are often being placed directly into a division after just 1 or 2 games.

Disguised IdrA fan. Epicness. Great read thanks for the information

Is there any way this index could be integrated into sc2gears? I think that could help a lot!
|
Interesting read, thanks for all the work you put in.
