With this, I can see the big name players focusing more on their GSL matches in the combined weeks with the GSTL. If they increase the prize pool, then I'll buy it. That's not true at all. Team pride changes many things. It's not all about the prize pool. People are going to hate me for bringing up BW in a SC2 thread, but if you look at that, the players generally consider PL more important than winning individual leagues despite the prize pool for individual leagues being higher than the teamleague and running shorter (~50k USD, every 3 months compared to ~40k USD once a year for team). It's the fact that your teammates depend on you. Also, have you honestly not watched any of the previous GSTLs or last night's GSTL? That was amazing. We almost never get that many games of that quality in a single night.

That would be because GSTL never had tickets before this season. They were just considered short series for fun in between the GSLs and they offered everyone the HQ version for free until this season. Why? Because now it's a full fledged league that runs for months instead of a short week.

Although I don't like the idea of paying 25 dollars at a time, I will grudgingly admit that 25 dollars is the same about of dollars per day that the old GSTL was, and that 25 dollars for three months is better than the GSL price of 10 dollars per month, or 30 dollars per three months.

No, they were $5.

Even if it was 5 cents per hour, it's still 40 fucking dollars.

The price is right.
You're paying $1.28 per day with the new pricing format ($40). You get apprx. 28 days worth of content.
Before you paid $1.25 per day ($5). You get 4 days worth of content.
Am I missing something?
The obvious argument is: $40 is too much to shell out at once. And for that person, it is not worth it to them, but the price is still fair.
Does it suck if you're in that category? Yes. The solution is also obvious, lol. *troll face*

Yes. the new format is $40 without ads, $25 with, and the old format was $10 without ads, $5 with.
Comparing the new format high price to the low format reduced price isn't viable; either compare the without-ads prices to each other or the with-ads prices to each other.

It's $25 to $5, not $40 to $5.
It was also overpriced before relative to the GSL in number of games played, and it still is. Just you didn't notice because $5 isn't something you hesitate on.

I would much rather pay $10 a month instead of having to shell out $35 right now for both the individual league and team league. So... let me get this straight: You don't want to be bombarded with so many tickets to buy, so you'd rather buy on a monthly basis (more tickets) than purchasing a ticket that goes for more than one month? Okay... Show nested quote +On June 23 2011 10:10 Joementum wrote: Why? Because it keeps my fucking SC2 budget under control. So having the option to pay less money-per-game for MORE GAMES over a longer period of time is causing your sc2 budget to spiral out of control? No, I think your sc2 budget, like most people's sc2 budget, is controlled by the guy behind the computer, not GomTV. It's still free to watch live... Show nested quote +On June 23 2011 10:10 Joementum wrote: Not only that, but 95% of the games in the Championship league or w/e the hell it was called were a damn snooze-fest. Korean players are becoming increasingly more and more boring to watch. All they are doing now is figuring out clever build orders to win and that's it. The Polt vs MMA finals is a great example of clever BOs, but the games were so damn boring with the exception of one of them. If you find one player building unit X, Y, Z & A-moving at the 7 minute mark with them "exciting," then holy hell do I wish you have some sort of exciting life outside Starcraft.
Edit - I'm also sick and tired of tournaments that run over 1 month. I've stopped following them completely. It's just becoming way too tiresome and boring to keep up with everything, let alone a tournament that lasts more than a month. 1) It was called the Super Tournament 2) The winner won like a hundred grand USD. The entire Bo7 could have been worker rushes and it would have been exciting, there was like a hundred million Won on the line! That's a lot of freaking money. 3) GSTL and GSL both run just about a month. The Super Tournament was a notable exception with a notably large prize pool.
My main argument with being bombarded with tickets was not limited to just the GSL since every one is now trying to start some stupid league where they charge for "HD Quality." For argument's sake though, I don't like the fact that they started up the GSTL and GSL at the same time. They should have started the GSL now and then the GSTL 2 weeks later. Give people some damn time in between buying tickets.
Most people do monthly budgets. I would be much happier paying $10 per month than paying $40 in one month. If it doesn't make sense to you why I'm like that, then great! It makes sense to me. I'm not going to stay up til 5 AM just to watch a game. Unlike most people on TL, I work and run a business. The latest I'll stay up is 1, maybe even 2 am at times.
1. Cool. 2. Who the hell cares if $100k is on the line? The players do. I don't give a shit. I want to watch exciting games. Not some scripted bullshit that will always win the game. That's what the finals felt like for me, as well almost all the other games. 3. According to GOMTV.net, GSTL runs for 4 months. I doubt anyone will remember WTF happened in month 1 by the time they get to month 3. That's my main problem with leagues >30 days.

The HQ stream has really improved. The VODs are still great quality. I'd say, yeah it's worth it.
|
The way I see it is that you watch the stream and a great production which obviously costs a great deal of money, why not support GOM for all the hard work they have been putting into sc2. To be honest they are providing the only real incite into the Korean game at the moment other than the odd koth or small cup streamed for us by CSN.

I think the OP has some valid arguments about the sudden price increase in total cost per month all put into one decision at a time. For those of us on a budget, all we can hope for is some flexibility with how we spend our money.
For me though, its more about total cost. I am working and make decent money, enough where I have money to spend lots on entertainment. SC being the biggest excitement for me.
Here is a quick look at my budget:
Cable TV $50/month Cell $35/month Internet $70/month GSL $20/month. NASL $25
Now GOM wants $40 for GSTL ontop of all of this. If it was split up per each month, I have the option to skip a few months. Thats where people start asking themselves ok maybe its time to chill out a bit, even though SC2 is the most important entertainment for me. At this point in my budget, I think just the regular GSL i paid $10 for is enough this time. If it was $20 with no ads it would be ok with me.

i think the gom tv should set a special where if you bough the gsl and gstl package together would be more worthwhile for people or set it up so you can pay 10 bucks a month for gstl etc..
|
gom's more expensive than the monthly subscription game, WoW and Xbox live -__-'
|
I paid for my GSTL subscription.
The team league is exciting and with the introduction of the foreigner teams its a no brainer.
Also looking forward to MC crushing nerds

People are forgetting that your paying for only 1 "final". Also, since its spanned out in more than a month, the hype dies down and you lose track. Its just not as exciting.

yeah but Gom is more fun

how can you not purchase? The first match of the first week was absolutely sick... GSTL is just too good and GOM knows it
/over priced but wtf man I'm addicted >.< i can't stop

I'm not going to pay $25 for a ticket when there's no guarantee I'll still be interested in/have time to watch everything 2 months down the line. The normal GSL seasons are fine as they are only $10 and last a month which isn't that long. I would've liked to see a package deal with GSL July which I did purchase.

I do not care if it lasts 3 months and if number of games divided by 25$ is same as before. Before we got many GSTL tournaments for that money and now it is one.
Actually they now give out less total prize money to the teams but charge us same?!

My number one concern is who will be casting the games. Even though I want to not buy the ticket I will prob get it
