"GSTL used to be priced at 4.99USD (with ads) for a 4 day tournament. With our new GSTL, which will be running for almost 3 months, you’ll get 25 full playdays for only 24.99USD (with ads)." It's just the illusion of paying more money. You technically paid 1.25 for 1 day in old GSTL, and now pay 1.00 for 1 day in GSTL (though the number of games is different so let's just say for the sake of argument...it's basically the same deal).

$10/mo seems to be a good price point for them, so maybe the option of a recurring subscription of $15 that covers both the GSL and GSTL would be a fair compromise. That's a total of $45/qtr compared to $55/qtr paying separately. A discount of $10 represents good value to the consumer, means GOM gets a more stable subscription base and means that most importantly the headline price is still probably around about a working person's impulse purchase threshold. It's also a nice upsell - "Why buy GSL this month for $10 when for only $15 you can also have GSTL" tldr; Maintain existing one off payment pricing for people who wish to watch only one league Offer a recurring subscription to all GOM leagues that is slightly less than paying separately

And i would be extremely comfortable with a subscription service. This comes up with some problems though the subscriber of one month would be able to watch all the VOD's of the tourney, or whatever. The issue is, would people taking advantage of the subscription system hurt sales in comparison to a one time buy? That is something I don't know.

$12/$20 for the first 5 weeks of the regular season $12/$20 for the last 5 weeks of the regular season $8/$15 for the 3 weeks of playoffs ---- $25/$40 for the complete tournament

I'm afraid I don't know enough about the field to put this in to numbers, however for example porn sites and print magazines clearly see the worth of having their subscribers tied in to a regular contract. I imagine the consumer thought process to go something along the lines of "<i>Oh well, I may as well have another month, I'm subscribed anyway</i>"

Commercials on regular broadcast TV reach a much broader audience with everything from LCD TV's to toilet paper. SC2 fans are not the key demographic. And don't forget dvd box sales, those probably account for a huge part of the revenue from TV-series. It's just not feasible that your friend should just be able to watch any game from GOM for free. Even with ads it still wont cover all the costs. They should reduce price slightly, put commercials in. Then sell a GSL 2011 DVD box, with bonus video of interviews, special matches, team house tours, CODE B footage, and maybe even a few(very few) replays of some of the best matches of each tournament if the players agreed. I'd buy that as long as it had subtitles(I assume everything would be Korean, but I guess they could have a second version if profitable)

FUCK YEAH EPIC EXTENDED TEAM LEAGUE FORMAT EXACTLY LIKE WE ASKED FOR!!!! I don't know what price you guys are arguing about. I just pressed purchase instantly. You do realize that running a team league is more costly than an individual league, right?

Hey would you look at that, a dollar a day. before you were paying $1.25. Why hasn't this quote been edited or mod-edited into the original post, the original post is incredibly biased against it, and this fact is the reason I thought the pricing was quite good.

It's the exact same value if you do it by number of matches instead of days. I just don't think the group stage matches will be as exciting as the one week playoffs of the last seasons. I don't think any of the round of 8 matches from those were that memorable and we are going to get lots of games like those I think as the lesser teams play over and over again.
