First Liverpool beats Crystal Palace 7-0, in what to me was the most impressive game I've seen of any team since Bayern's 8-2 vs Barcelona. And then they follow that up with 1 goal in 5 games - that one goal being against WBA, a team that has conceded the second most goals out of any team in any of the top 5 leagues. (schalke 44, WBA 43). And now they lost at home field for the first time since 2017, against a team that has only scored 10 goals all season. beautiful season. Good times in Manchester at least!

Also probably helps Liverpool if they can just find someone to score a goal or three.

And Mönchengladbach coming back into CL contention. Very good start to 2021 for me.

Part of it could be their squad and recruitment too. Ton of youthful talent with ability to burn, could be there’s not enough leaders on the pitch who can direct things when they’re going badly. Doesn’t necessarily require veterans, but that bit of nous and ability to stir teammates into action. The real downside in how Dortmund seem to want to operate currently is they’re not bleeding some of Europe’s best talents into improving a team ready to take that next step, but they’re continually cycling around the future. If they could keep Haaland, Sancho et al for a couple of years they could really build something great as those players mature and improve further. However that feels exceedingly unlikely, it’s that sense that Dortmund are continually building for the future without looking at actually getting there.

I admire what they're doing with the constant churn of developing talents. But to build a championship-winning team, they really need more stability and can't just sell off their brightest stars (otherwise, the players will always be keeping one eye on their next big club with the selfish mentality "it's okay not winning trophies with Dortmund, I'll have better chances winning with Bayern/Madrid/Liverpool"). Personal growth is a great culture to breed. But that doesn't necessarily translate well to winning as a team.

I still think that it's funny how total that flip was. Last season we were losing points to clubs in bottom half of the table but beating city, chelsea, Leicester and spurs and this time we've got 4 points from the top teams and are top of the table with only having lost points to Palace otherwise.

City still have a better chance imo, they're only 2 points behind with a game in hand. Yea, and even though losing De Bruyne hurts, their next matches are against WBA, Sheffield U and Burnley - so rather winnable either way. Then they have Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal after - prolly dropping a few points there, but still, City have hit their stride, and they have been so good defensively lately (2 conceded goals in the past 10 games) that they don't need a lot of goals to win games.

He'll struggle to deal with the off-pitch stuff (boardroom, media, English culture, etc). He'll be an AVB v.2? Poch would've been a safer 'next gen' choice, but that boat has sailed.
