Well, that's partly true but if you look at what actually happened, you will realise that last season they should've renamed to MessiFC. Messi carried them in the milan/psg games and he scored more than cristiano in the liga in xavi/iniesta's worst season.

What sorta makes me think the "Bundesliga is as strong as EPL/La Liga" argument isn't too solid.
Bayer Leverkusen always disappoints against the big international teams. Always. Bayern and Dortmund will show us where the Bundesliga is at.

Watching it live I screamed penalty like a madman, but the rep showed it was outside the box.
Goes for the obvious miscalled offside I guess. But Messi would have scored the foul
Deserved win and deserved 2 goals. Not really a great game tbh.

Can anyone explain how on earth does pique find himself in these winger/striker positions during normal build up play? Like, how does Tata tolerate that, lol.

He's a positioning ninja - now you see him, now you don't.

Piqué is quite the boss and attacks sometimes because Busquets defends on his place xD
Can't argue about his results really. He has like 4 goals on Liga and a few assists too. Also today he was solid at defending.

Oh right, poor busquets stays back all the time, xD.

I agree they're a lot better this season ^^.

Well yes, that's why I blamed Tito, xD.

The most intimidating thing about watching City vs Barcelona was seeing Yaya Toure head and shoulders above his teammates and knowing that in Barcelona, they let him go because they had someone better for his job...
Anyway, the game was seriously one-sided and with a red card it wasn't as much fun as I expected it to be. David Silva was almost like a non-existent player out there and I think Dzeko did much, much better than Negredo. I'm surprised how many times City slowed down their break attempts, as if they were confident that FCB can be beaten by patient buildup. Either way, it's a deserved defeat for home side and I don't think even Aguero could save them with such inferiority in the midfield.

But that year they played quite well until December, with Adriano, Iniesta, Cesc, etc playing great. I blame Roura (when Tito got ill) since January when they team started to rely only in Messi.

Uh wow, I thought Touré didn't play that well this game and Silva was the best man on Man C :o. I also liked Negredo.
Weird how you can have totally differing opinions on that haha.

I liked Negredo. He got some great chances, with City midfield playing so bad. It was all his merit.

Well to be fair the Yaya Toure of today for me walks into Barca's starting line up. As good as Busquets is, hes a fulcrum player and Barca could use some beastly qualities.

Pellegrini deserves the lose. If he plays all the Premier League with 2 fowards and a midfield with 2 centralplayers + 2 offensive mid side players, why in the world you decide to play with 1 striker, and place Kolarov instead of a offensive midfielder, all while playing at home. WHY? Mourinho did something similar (changing his regular team just for one game vs barca with pure defensive midfield) in his first season as Madrid coach and ended up 5-0 for barca (ofc, was a much stronger barca).
Btw, I like a lot Pellegrini work so far as Man City manager, but today he fucked it up. He should have played more proactive, taking the initiative, like the Ajax victory vs barca, or the Bayern series in the last UCL. Barca played very confortable and they did his tier 1 game.

Alves was very very good. And funnily enough ManC got stronger with one man down..

I do think they should change the rule though. I like the idea of no red card because yeah the player gets denied a goal scoring opportunity, but it's given back with the penalty. Anyway, I think if Demichelis didn't foul Messi, it would've been 0-1 anyway. 1 on 1 he doesn't miss those chances, or at least, he scores them as often as he would score a penalty, so like 90% goal anyway.
I don't think the rule should be changed. It's not about what's "fair", like you lose the scoring opportunity but get a penalty to make up for it. The point is that they don't want attackers tackled from behind in general, to protect the players, and they especially don't want clear scoring chances prevented with such tackles, because everyone enjoys watching an attacker 1v1 against the goalie more than they enjoy watching penalty kick goals and it's a spectator sport in the end. The point of the rule is to discourage defenders in the strongest way possible from committing deliberate fouls to prevent clear scoring opportunities.

It kind of blows my mind that people thought Leverkusen had ANY shot in this. PSG is a high, high quality team and Leverkusen not only has an incredibly solid history of choking in the Champions League, but they have also collapsed over the past several weeks and have looked extremely disappointing at the start of the Ruckrunde. They lost to F.C. Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal for God's sake. I genuinely believe that Schalke has more of a shot at beating Madrid than Leverkusen had of winning this.
