The hallucination will get to your opponent's base in time for you to know if widow mine drops are coming or not. If he goes super early reapers he can have 3 in your base 5-10 seconds before the Stalker is done but with micro (rally the zlot/sentry to your mineral line) you shouldn't lose too many workers and should be even at worst economically.

MLG hasn't released replays for quite a while so I wouldn't hold out hope for those coming out

Isn't it basically MC's 1gate Stargate opening which was posted like 3 times itt followed by 4-5 more gates while going up to 5 Oracles?

This is why I chose the name, love that boss, hardest final boss fight of my life haha.

I might look at the vods and work out a skeleton build then open a [D] thread about star openings later tonight.

Could anyone recommend any build for fast DTs? I used the Byaka build in WoL (2 zealots+stalker pressure into dts), but even with the cheaper Dark Shrine I can't get the templars faster.

What's the best way to avoid the phoenix wars in pvp? It feels like stargate just crushes all other openers right now. I've been trying out archon+chargelot+stalker but I feel like if I attack too soon I'm vulnerable to my mineral line being annihilated by oracle and if I attack too late they'll have built up enough voids to repel me easily. How do these pure WG expand builds fare against stargate openers?

I got really frustrated by this loss, so I'd like a little bit of input.
I'm not sure if it was because of the Widow Mine drop, or my mistakes with the forcefields that caused me to lose the game. (Also, I forgot thermal lance. :'( )

Hi guys. Since Hots release I've been playing random but I feel quite lost whenever I roll Protoss because I have very little experience with it. If possible, would somebody mind giving/linking me to openings of the following kind:
PvT: 1. A macro robo opening 2. A macro chargelot/templar tech opening
PvZ: 1. An macro opening that involves warp prism harass early on 2. A macro opening that involves a stargate early on
PvP: 1. Any (relatively) safe expand build (I'm currently going 2 gate robo)

Help with PvZ... EVERY time I go FFE, the zerg player always just mass ling/roach/hydras me before I can even get a decent army.. am I supposed to stay on 2 bases and just build up an army? I can't win PvZ at all...

When people say get like 4 or 5 oracles... Is this just for harassing everywhere and having 1 for detection, or do they complement the army well?
I have one with my army for detection and I like bringing it in the side to snipe marines or something, but I dunno if this is cost efficient.

Hey guys I haven't played SC2 in a very long time and I want to come back as Protoss. I'm having trouble though because I basically have no builds. I really like to learn from replays rather than VODs or just lists of buildings and supply counts, I feel that it's much more informative, but I'm not sure where to find replays from release HotS. Are there any good ones out there yet?
I'll dig through this thread for the old fashioned "9 pylon..." etc type of lists if necessary, but I feel it's worth checking for replays before I do.

They are more threatening than cloak banshees imo. You hit the nail on the head. For a brief moment of time, I LOVED PvT when the MSC had detection because that at least partially discouraged this play and for once Protoss could confidently go straight into twilight tech without an auto-loss to banshees or mines. I find twilight tech much more enjoyable to play against Terran and was disappointed when they moved detection to MSC because I felt Protoss were essentially confined to build orders except instead of only Robo we have Robo/Stargate. I just want viable twilight tech! Yes, I find this proxy widow mine build super-frustrating and nigh unstoppable. Throw in the fact that a high percentage of Terran players use this against me on ladder and I am at the point where I just sit out until something is changed. Even when I see the proxy factory and deny it in my base they just have a widow mine bury at my natural and expand since the mine will deny my expo for several minutes until I get detection. Stuff like this is why I still wish they left that detection spell on the mothership core. You didn't have to commit so much gas to a tech path to get portable detection. I liked the option of opening fast twilight council too. Plus yeah, with the necessity of mobile detection to deal with mine rushes it makes way more sense to have an easier access detection. I agree, I feel like in PvT Protoss is now confined to BOs again, except rather than just Robo we have Robo/Stargate, which is better. However, I want viable twilight tech and MSC with detection would help! there is no way they will add detection to MSC

Something needs to change, because there all so many variants of the proxy factory into widow mines and they all hit before detection. See Rain vs Jjaki in the Winter Championship for a different build. Even with an early robo Rain had to micro unbelievable to avoid the first wave, lost ~8 probes in his main to the second wave and had his natural expo mining delayed and then saw more probes killed due to another mine which led to his GG.
If Blizzard doesn't want to add early detection for Protoss (which doesn't make much sense now that Zerg have spores without Evolution Chamber and Terran have Scans) then I would have to believe widow mines would either have to be delayed (factory add-on required?) or AOE damage nerfed ( < 40 so they do not one-shot workers).

MC's 4Gate Oracle build in PvT 9 Pylon 13 Gateway 2x Gas on ~15 16 Pylon 18 Cybernetics Core Hide the next pylon in a corner of your base Warpgate/Stalker (chronoboosted) Mothership Core Stalker Stargate at hidden pylon >:D Sentry Start chronoboosting oracles out of the stargate. After the starting the first one build a Nexus at your natural Keep building oracles and throw down 3 more gateways as you can afford them. MC has been going up to 4 Oracles. Now from here the idea is to have 4 Oracles and a Mothership Core harassing the main while having gateway units consisting of mostly Stalkers hit the front. Split up Terrans units. If this build is unscouted or they don't have enough turrets and Vikings you will just shit on him. If you want you can also have the gateway and stargate units together and just attack the front using Timewarp to slow the units and let the Oracles melt everything. A lot of Terrans have been opening with widow mines, so be careful of those as they will 1 shot an oracle! Just remember to use the Oracles Detection ability to kill of any widow mines at ramps or in mineral lines so your attack goes smoothly. Does anyone remember a somewhat old PvZ build on TL that consisted of FFE'ing into abusing early stalker gateway pressure to potentially deny a fast third? It was based off a build used by a KESPA protoss (i think Rain). Thanks.

I'm sick of widow mines. One T even placed 2 each at both of my ramps leading out from my base. : o Won with 1 base immortal all in. Anyone tried dt+wp all in? I think going stargate while facing T with fast widow mines is risky.

can you give us a replay?
pretty much all my pvz's the zerg is being really aggressive and i don't blame them. They shouldn't be sitting around waiting for us to get the skytoss out and murder anything they throw at us.
You should note your tech choice after FFE and your gameplan and ofc your replay so we can help you out.
