hell yea king, that's exactly the kind of thing we need. You've understood what I am saying well. Sixtus knows much more than I do, but what I know is a start.
Everything should be optimized for HotS, everything in WoL that is also in HotS should match HotS. But in this case we're just looking for defaults. I think there was a file with the defaults, but it was a bit weird, and not so complete. The way blizzard hotkeys work is that they only show what is different from the default so finding defaults can be tricky sometimes, (esp campaign keys)
What I do to check to be sure its the right key, is change it in the UI and see if the text file reflects the change. That way we're 100% sure that is is correct and we don't go about fucking up the layout.

I think the only way to describe it is to test it oneself.
Give it a try if you feel like it, just remap your right windows key and your right function key so that they can be CGs.
Producing like that gives such a smooth feeling, since they're the main CGS it also seems alright to activate them with the thumb .
Shift not being in the optimal position to shift queue is not a problem either since i rarely find myself queueing rally points, assigning is also not optimal, but in the case of ccs thats not such a hassle, the benefit also being you wont assign units accidentaly to your production CGS.
Btw- i have a really comfortable cherry reds keyboard that makes using shift comfortable even if the lower keys are not removed like it is suggested in the core tutorial, so that might also play a role

I definitely would not do this. I absolutely shift queue rally points, and check my macro CGs often. I don't want to be pressing them both with my thumb back and forth like that all game, very slow.
Reposting Important Request
We need to get the default commands for all of these keys before 0.8 will be released. There are a lot of changes and making them manually in the text file will be both slow and error prone, so I will be using the script that allows me to do this with UI. To do this we need to know all the defaults.
Finding the defaults is a pretty simple, but time consuming task. Find a key on that list, look for what it might be called in-game. Change that key, and see if your .SC2Hotkeys file reflects that change. If that is the case, post your findings and confirmations here. If not, you have to try another key. Remember that things in the .SC2Hotkeys file are not always as they seem.
hydraliskspeed/HydraliskDen you would think is the hydralisk speed upgrade, but guess what? Its hydralisk range.... this is why if you are going to help us, you must confirm by changing the key and checking the assosciated .SC2Hotkeys file.
TheCore 1.0, ever elusive Thanks again everyone, just broke 1300 active users (the poll forces you to revote every two months or so), who knows how many users in total. When 0.8 gets out, start reaching out to all of your high level friends and acquaintances, my personal goal this month will be to release TheCore version 1.0 with the 0.8 files, I'll be frontloading all of the rest of my responsibilities and then completely dedicating to TheCore as much time as I can for the remainder of the month. Beedebdoo is working on the new spreadsheets and changelog. JamesMadison is working on the visualizer (I hope). So at this point, once we push out 0.8 and fix the first wave of bugs/issues all we need is a fresh, updated video series, and text transcriptions to match and we'll be ready to roll with 1.0. At that time we'll begin working on TheCore Lite Hotkey layout as well as TheCore Tricks video series. TheCore Lite will likely need its own thread as it will be vastly different from TheCore in a lot of ways but I hope those of you who have been helping with TheCore will also work with me on Lite as the thing that makes TheCore as good as it is, is that we have such a number of strong, open minded individuals putting their weight behind it. It's time to fucking get this shit out already.

Though i have to agree that having windows and function key as CGs doesn't seem very good, it might still be a cool idea to have the option to use these keys for something like rally point camera location or whatever. Which probably could be implemented by having an alternative hotkey for these commands and mapping those keys to the alternative hotkey.

Mmm i'm a masters Terran and i rarely, rarely need to shift queue rally points, let alone lose a game because of not shift queuing some rally point (maybe around 3-5 games in my whole sc2 history ), but that's beyond the point . Besides one is not giving it up, just changing the way it is activated. (Edit: there is no disadvantage to this whatsoever)
What i dont' get is how the usage of the Cgs with the thumb prevents checking the macro Cgs often?
And how does it slow production ? Windows Key + I might be even faster than P + I for scvs.. (also it is insanely comfortable since it requieres an almost single synchronised motion)
The same goes for Windows Key + k for scans and j for mules.
Function also lets you check on your productions as easily and quickly as any other CG, and since the core uses the mouse for sub/next group the speed is even the same or even faster:
Let's take marine production as an example. Function Key + J is insanely faster than O+J. Without an actual speed test, and just by spamming it on notepad the difference is pretty noticable. The tension required for the hand to do it quickly is also reduced.
The only situations where it falls slower is when you double tap, which is a necesity obscured by Cameras anyways, as well as assigning them with control.
|
It slows the tap considerably. I can see where it would work well with production though.

Here's a bunch I did (Jak, check a few to make sure they're right)
Edit: removed link due to error. Just need to make a correction to script, but these are still all complete.
What's left
http://pastebin.com/cFiHRqRg
I think a bunch of the ones that are left are from WOL.
I made it a lot quicker by just clicking through the gui, adding alternates to ones I knew that were campaign specific, and then saving the resulting hotkey file (make sure to save along the way, a misclick will mess everything up). I used numpad for the alternates so it wouldn't be conflicting. I wrote a python script to merge it with the file of missing commands.
The script isn't in postable condition, but if anyone wants to do the same, just send along your file to me from the hotkey folder and I'll run it against what's left.

Small mistake in the script code, will fix tomorrow. wouldn't necessarily use what's up right now

Just added in these defaults to the seed file. are they wrong?

No, only the ones with 2 letters were wrong. My script was matching "MercHellion/Factory" and "Hellion/Factory" to "MercHellion/Factory" and pasting the letters for each. New link.

I compared the text files in a program to ensure that only the ones with 2 letters were wrong, you can rest easy. You can see differences highlighted here:
http://pastebin.com/diff.php?i=Qd9TJWjW
Script now matches exactly, so this wouldn't be a problem again.

Added some new links to the OP.
Pretty much all thanks to Beedebdoo (I helped a tiny bit). I think you're going to like this:
TheCore Reference Spreadsheets Here you can find our suggestions for Control Groups and Camera Location Keys as well as a list of all the keys for your version of TheCore. Just pick your race below:
Protoss
Terran
Zerg
Random
TheCore Archive is where you can find all of the switches, gears, pulleys, and levers that make TheCore work. Its not pretty. This is where you can check out the latest work on TheCore as it progresses as well as access all of the data that made TheCore what it is today. Enter at your own risk.
TheCore Changelog here you can see the evolution of TheCore and keep up to date on its developments. (work in progress, enter at your own risk)
Everything in the reference spreadsheets now pulls directly from the archive so that way there are never any confusions, and I only have to change any mistakes in 1 or 2 locations instead of going to each individual layout (24). Again, huge props to Beedebdoo for stepping up and helping out. No idea when this would have gotten done without him.
|
The links for the reference Spreadsheets seem to either be broken (Protoss) or require permission to access them.
EDIT: Protoss link just has a superfluous <br> at the end but also requires permission.

hello,
just downloaded the newest core version (ZRS for german keyboard) and logged in after a long long time. i wanted to start a game and test a little bit, but sc2 told me that there are 220 unset hotkeys i even cant select/unselect units with the mouse..has this something to do with the new sc2 patch?

Happy Birthday JDub!

Here is a neat trick that needs to be incorporated into the Core:
1)Open the Arcade Tester
2)Go to: Unit Management > Chose Ability or A.I Target.(This is set to left click) Now add an alternate key to it, lets assume your using an X-RM layout and pick H. (The point is to make it reachable while using an ability and shift at the same time)
3)Spawn a couple ghosts and any other biological unit, preferably one you hate, i picked High Templars of course. ( We want to snipe the shit out of something)
Now comes the sweet part:
4) Select all your ghosts 5) Press your snipe hotkey and keep it pressed. 6) Press Shift and keep it pressed 7) Press that ability key you assigned and keep it pressed (H in our case) 8) Hover your mouse over the units you want sniped. 9) Enjoy
Fun stuff:
You can assign Chose Ability or A.I Target to:
1) The Snipe ability itself - This makes it incredibly easy since all you have to do is snipe shift hover. However have in mind you are giving away the pre-snipe period where you can snipe shift and still hover your mouse to select your targets to then press your C.A or A.I Target key.
What does this mean? You run the risk of sniping your own stuff so you have to be careful when hovering the mouse towards your targets.
2) The attack key without any conflict whatsoever (J in TRM). This opens up the door for usage with any ability
Glhf
I feel Jak having such a meticulous and methodical mind will find the perfect setup for this on the next release.
