Re: camera keys...
I think the core changes the game a bit with camera keys. Layered cameras are simply much more efficient to use than with Standard's function key bindings. Furthermore, developing the muscle memory for it is pretty easy too. I've been using The Core since March 12th, and I can't imagine not having the base cams for sending SCVs back to mineral lines, jumping to ramps, etc.
In my experience, drag and side scrolling are slower than cameras and learning cameras are easy to pick up with The Core.

For the left-handed layouts, W-E-R-G are the home keys.
For a passionate Dota player, qwer being the home keys was self-evident to me. Now a lot of stuff begins to make sense for me
I'm not going to change THAT habbit though. Nevertheless, beside this inconvenience, I love TheCore so far. Thank you guys

QWER definitely could make sense, but Jak has gone with WERG for a variety of reasons (I'm sure he could explain much better than I could). Good luck learning TheCore!

@Jose I am using right Windows key for "next subgroup". Unfortunately SC does not allow using Windows key, so I had to map it as Tab using remapkeys.exe from Windows Resource Kit Tools. You can download it for free from Microsoft

Concerning WERG and JIOP homekeys,
Remember that if your thumb is not on shift, then you are doing it wrong! If you are using WERG then your right hand should be on the keyboard and your left on the mouse. That being said:
The pinky is shorter than the rest of the fingers and more easily rests on a row lower than the other fingers. This allows all of the fingers to have enough of a curl to reach a row above and a row below with minimal motion in the wrist. (we actually set it up so the pink never has to reach upwards as it is the worst finger to do so.

@Hot_Ice You keep these features to yourself? Or will you share them with us?
|
Ya it's cool that everything is so close together that you don't need perfect hand positioning / technique and it's still pretty effective. To be completely honest I think I switch back and forth between jiop when I'm macroing and jkl; when I'm using my army I just don't really think about it. Which is not ideal I guess with the new layout. Just for the record... I've tried changing my resting position between jiop and j l whatever and = is pretty close to ]. Neither feels better or worse to me if you are using the correct hand position.
|
Thank you so much for this! Having a set of key bindings made for large hands is awesome. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any documentation on the large hand keys. Am i just missing it or is it only being created for the medium size?
|
I am literally working on this right now
It's going to take a while to make it presentable, but you can check out the happenings in TheCore Archive if you're brave enough. I will not explain how it all works in there, that's where we keep all the moving parts that will eventually create all the documentation you'll see on the full release. Still getting it all worked out.
EDIT: just in case I didn't use the word all enough: all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all
|
i just want to point out that the Visual Aides Fingers pics are not outdated (as far as i know (EDIT: except the version number)) you can see which keys are the home keys for the different layouts and which key should be pressed by which finger.
|
I was told that they were outdated... I don't really have time to go through them all right now, so I'll leave the label up to be safe for now.

Why is chat on tab? : ?
I just quit from a game because I couldn't say glhf to someone. I don't want to look like a bmer. :<

So some other function can be on Enter
|
Chat was supposed to be on tab a long time ago, that was my error. It is on tab so that game functions can be on enter. Chat function usually uses both hands so putting it on a far away key isn't as detrimental as putting a game key far away.
|
I assumed that, but I figured I'd ask anyway since there's nothing on Enter.
|
@Anty Enter for xRM should be a camera rotate or select all army. Not 100% sure which off the top of my head.
|
Anyone else feel like the control group keys are too sporadic? It seems like they aren't in any particular order.
|
@sixilli
I thought that at the start but over time I realized it was nice how they are set up. I use the 890 for my army control and the OP[ for buildings queens and upgrades. There is little chance of screwing up and selecting all hatcheries and hotkeying them over your army or something that could lose a fight and even the match.

The CG keys are (as stated in the 0.7 video) ranked in order of speed to press. This way you can assign the CGs most important to you from left to right (or top to bottom in the hotkeys section).
