I am big fan of The Core, currently using 1.1 left-handed.
When I play on the laptop it is problematic and awkward, it slows me down quite a bit due to ctrl/shift not being as accessible as on a mechanical keyboard, and also due to the keyboard tilting.
Is there a version of The Core Lite for left handed people? I have looked around but have not found it.
JaKaTaK and gang, hope you like this! It's my small Christmas present to you. 100% my own work, all the icons I found on wikimedia - so as far as I know come with a creative commons license. I've checked and rechecked all the information and all seems A-OK (please do check though as I have a habit of missing the obvious sometimes). If you want something changed, I'd be happy to oblige. The Zerg + Protoss layout is almost done - but have to pop out for now, will upload that a little later.
Thanks put it in the OP. I don't think there is a difference between this one and one you might make for zerg/protoss. These are all universal keys, no?

According to the reference spreadsheet linked in the OP, there's a small difference in the PATROL, STOP, HOLD keys placement. I did wonder about this though, in the F KEY column for terran there's HOLD FIRE / WEAPON FREE and HALT CONSTRUCTION, for zerg you have TRANSFUSE and protoss WARP PRISM - so each race has something else bound to the F key, so I did wonder why terran has a slightly different binding for patrol, hold and stop. Though HALT CONSTRUCTION is mentioned in the F KEY column for terran - but not the other two races (it's not mentioned at all).
However, assuming the above is as intended - perhaps it may be better to have hold, stop and patrol the same across all three race layouts to simplify things for random players / race jumpers? I feel you thought it was like this already
Anyhoo, the layout for Zerg and Protoss is below - just with those slight changes to those 3 keys. I'll be happy to redo the graphics anytime if needed.
I just set my machine up on TheCore a few days ago. The logic is there for me but I expect quite a learning curve. Seeing the simplicity of TheCore Light makes me consider doing that instead. Thank you JaK and fruity for all your work on this!

JaKaTaK needs all the credit! I just did the graphic - Did take a while but that was more down to the learning process around gimp and finding the right combination of icons.
Thank you for putting together this custom key map and instruction manual. I have WoL but I don't have HotS. I downloaded the following: - Chameleon 2.0 - Chameleon 2.0.1 - TheCore Lite - TheCore 1.0 (large and medium for P/T/Z/Random)
So far I've loaded Chameleon 2.01 and TheCore Lite. However, there seem to be key settings that weren't updated such as Research Flux Vanes (removed from the game), Mothership Vortex (I mapped to E), and the Ultralisk speed upgrade for the Ultralisk den. I have a few questions: 1 - What's the difference between Chameleon and TheCoreLite? 2 - Should I be using Chameleon or TheCoreLite (does one replace the other)? 3 - Why is the "Select All Warp Gates" feature mapped to "CTRL + Shift + Alt + F7"? Was this done to intentionally force the player to control group the Warp Gates/Gateways and ignore the Select All Warp Gates feature?
I'm using a standard 101/Windows keyboard (Logitech K120) and a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical. I chose TheCore Lite and Chameleon first because I really don't want to remove the two Windows keys between the right side Alt and CTRL. I've downloaded the hotkey files just in case I decide switch to the core (left hand on the right side of the keyboard).
Edit: Also, the Hold and Stop key mappings are inverted when compared to fruity's layout graphic.
I've encountered some strange game behavior. When switching hotkey profiles they seem to bleed into each other until OK'd through, and the game is exited and restarted. This is what I thought until I restarted the game and some previous changes before switching profiles weren't there. So, I decided to start fresh by: - Removed Chameleon from Hotkey profile list. - Deleted the altered TheCoreLite (TCL) hotkey profile and recopied the clean file to remove my changes. - Copied Un-moused and Mouse-enabled Darkgrid hotkey files to the hotkey folder for examination and potential borrowing of ideas. - Created the "FBEU_TCL" hotkey profile, based on the clean TCL profile, to contain my modifications. - Copied the following to the hotkey folder for examination: TheCorePLL and TheCorePRL.
The ability button in the Tech Lab, for the Thor 250mm Strike Cannon Research, does not show in the hotkey dialog when outside of a custom game. When outside of a custom game, the hotkey dialog shows that an Orbital Command Center's flying state has Load (Caps Lock) and Unload (E) ability mappings. However, when in-game Orbital Command Centers don't have load and unload abilities while flying.
Item #3 is a movement speed upgrade for Ultralisks. Maybe it was removed from the game or is a HotS only thing.
Erroneous TCL key mappings: - Patrol is mapped to P for all units, of all 3 races, when it should be mapped to T. - Hold and Stop mappings, G and V respectively, are inverted. - The Protoss Cybercore's Research Hallucinate is mapped to H. - Ghost Tac Nuke Strike is mapped to N. - The Terran Armory's Upgrade Ship Plating (air armor) is mapped to P and should be remapped to C, Space, or R. - The Terran Tech Lab's Research Nitro Packs is mapped to N and should be remapped to F, R, or G.
My FBEU_TCL Hotkey rebindings: - Mothership Vortex = E - Tech Lab Research Siege Tech = F - Baneling Enable Auto-attack Structure = Caps Lock - Baneling Disable Auto-attack Structure = E - Hold = V - Stop = G - Patrol = T - Ghost, Tac Nuke Strike = Caps Lock (to match the key map of the Ghost Academy's build Arm Missile Silo ability) - Protoss Cybercore, Upgrade Air Weapons = D (to match the Forge's Upgrade Ground Weapons ability) - Protoss Cybercore, Research Hallucinate = Caps Lock (to match the Sentry's Hallucinate ability) - Terran Armory, Upgrade Ship Plating = R - Terran Tech Lab, Research Nitro Packs = R (since Nitro Packs look like rockets)
key = Control Group key Create Control Group = CTRL + Shift + key Add to Control Group = CTRL + key Select Control Group = control group key
Create Camera Location = Alt + key Jump to Camera Location = Shift + key Group#1 = 2 Group#2 = 3 Group#3 = Q Group#4 = W Group#5 = A ... and so on...
Control Groups 1-8 and Camera Locations 1-8 use the same key. They are effectively layered.
I'm still having a very tough time with the hand movements because creating control group #1 and #2 requires me to: CTRL = pinky Shift = ring finger keyboard #2 = middle finger keyboard #3 = index finger letter Q = middle finger letter W = index finger
...and creating camera locations requires me to: Alt = left hand thumb keyboard #2 = middle finger keyboard #3 = index finger
Right now I'm just trying to block out my bad habits (using standard hotkeys) and just let repetitious cycles carry me to muscle memory. So I think doing about 30 games a day for 1-3 weeks should get it burned in. I'm not shooting for speed... just accuracy. I'm using the following video as my example practice point:
Start a custom off-line game > build a worker > create group#1 > create locations 1-8 > verify group#1 and cameras are correct > end game > repeat.
Just be aware that the keys Jak says to hit in the video do not match the ones in TheCoreLite and holding the build worker key during the loading screen does not work for me as the starting building is not preselected. Protoss is my preferred race but I leave my games to start as random so I can build muscle memory with all 3 races. So far the maps I've practiced on are: Shattered Temple and Blistering Sands. I'm going to start adding other maps into the mix as my accuracy improves. Once I feel a bit more comfortable I'm going to work on the Staircase method and practice macro'ing.
Thanks for sharing experience, I was playing with it yesterday, also worked through the hotkey trainer a bit. I was learning the Core 1 and then the Core 2, but then I had a big break, and now I came to Core Lite 'cause it's the natural position for my left hand when I type. And Core Lite is ez to use on laptop wich is also a plus. My little finger is strong because I play guitar for 10+ years =)
The video is a great help, cause I was just playing custom game with easy AI, but I want to separate groups/cameras training with the actual build order training.
Staircase is cool I did it for a while and it's best for macro. Please keep updating on your progress =)

It works, but you need to hold the "Spacebar" and when game loads immediately click the Nexus/Hatchery/CC, and worker will be queued. It's not preselected, and Jakatak says in a video, the worker is being bult as soon as you click the CC.
I've played a little bit and realized that using groups/cameras 1 and 2 which are currently on keys "2" and "3" is not practical.
Having 6 cameras and groups more than enought for such a beginner like me, and also reaching keys "2" and "3" is harder.
So what I've come up with (I play Terran):
Alt + Q: Camera Base 1 Alt + W: Camera Base 2 Alt + A: Camera Base 3 Alt + S: Camera Base 4 Alt + Z: Camera choke (it's where you wall off to the natural expo) and later in the game - rally for the army Alt + X: I'm not using this at the moment, but might be good for harass with drops
Remaining I don't use now, but might be like this: Ctrl + S: Vikings, Medivacs, Tanks Ctrl + Z: Drops Ctrl + X: ... (just extra)
I thinks it's good for the beginning and when I start game I do: 1) Hold space, click CC 2) Alt + Q, click natural, Alt + W, click 3rd, Alt + A, click 4th, Alt + S, click choke, Alt + Z 3) Ctrl + Q, quieue another SCV 4) Check all cameras, Shift + [Q, W, A, D, Z]
