Btw. Someone made this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/starbow
Oh and TB: Make it happen! Please! But have them play a few games first, so they know the in's and out's. Let me know if you need a co-caster
For more maps, I would suggest: - New bloody ridge. - Destination. - Roadrunner (just rename my Star-road-runner to roadrunner).
To begin with.

Incredible!
Also, I am currently working on getting a suggestion up for a ranking system. I just need some skills / help first
|
Very nice! Time for a Xiphias+TB dual cast, Hider vs Impact! Starbow elite vs progamer!
|
PvP or ZvZ would be extremely interesting.
|
You and the starbow team are fucking incredible :D
My god I hope this game replaced what we've currently got

Dear spaghetti monster that match made me almost sob, I didn't even realize how much I missed BW micro until I saw it in action again. If you keep doing these TB I promise I'll watch and thumbs up every one.

Cool game. Anyway, Dark Swarm was quite hard to see on that map. May need a small colour change I guess.
|
In all seriousness I would be more then willing to put a couple hundred $ towards a prize pool for a match if someone else can organize it. I know it isn't much, but I haven't contributed in any other way and I don't know how I can. So if a tournament or showmatch or w/e gets going pm me so I can contribute

I guess the mod is probably not for everyone, I didn't really find the match that exciting. I don't really see that many interesting dynamic between units, lurker vs bio for example is not nearly as interesting as banelings vs bio imo. then the lurkers just sit there and take the irradiation damage
most of the battles are still deathball vs deathball with less micro to see. can someone point out where are the cool micro from the video, so I can understand more and appreciate them?

Yeh that game wasn't any especial. A HOTS TvZ at pro level is often times more exciting. But remember, it is typical for games to not look so god the first time they are played by new players. There was lots of potential for both players to play a more multitask-based style. For instance, dropships are stronger than in BW due to speedboost, Ryung might not have been aware of that, and thus opted for a "deathball" style. Planetary can also be abused to a much larger extent than what we saw in the last game. The intention is that you "force" the action with a couple of lings --> retreat, and then you can harass it freely afterwards. So I think we could have seen a lot more lingrunbys from Impact had he been more experienced.
Anyway, it is easiest for Starbow to shine in the vs Protoss matchups, because P in Sc2 is just very poorly designed, and I think it is a lot more fun to play in Sbow. HOTS TvZ, while very much the same (little variation) is still pretty awesome in what it does, and thus, I think at best Starbow (when finished) can create more options in the game (such as the ability to use both mech and bio) relative to HOTS.
Anyway, Starbow also isn't finished. Your right about Irradiate vs Lurkers. Its not that exciting since it always kills the Lurkers. Instead, Irradiate is mostly exciting when it is used on a clump of units and forces the opponent to split their units away from the irradiated one to avoid splash damage. I think in a not so distant future, it is the intention to make Irridiate not kill units (but leave them w/ 1 HP) to incentivize more of the splash-damage micro rather than single-target vs Lurkers.

Well, both players are clearly rusty, so this was to be expected. Obviously the quality of gameplay will improve as they put more time into the mod.
As for the micro, look for splitting bio vs lurkers, using surrounds and flanks to kill them and minimize losses. Normally zerg will want to spread lurkers out to avoid splash damage from irradiate. Another big part is the science vessel/scourge dance, juking vessels to bait scourges into marines, cloning(http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Cloning) scourges to ensure that they hit the maximum number of vessels.
Landing Plague on vessels and using dark swarm to break up bio attacks is also crucial, the Defiler is probably the single most important zerg unit. I will say the animations for both these spells were pretty hard to see, maybe they could be made more distinct on the screen.
If you are looking for a game where the gameplay truly differentiates itself from SC2, check out the TvP of Dirtybag vs Ronsom, or something to that effect. Will try to find vod.

This looked great in TB's cast! I was watching the longer stream on twitch yesterday that was running Starbow as well. We discussed making Starbow/GameHeart compatible before but I was swamped at the time. I actually said you were welcome to look at any of my code and that when I finish the redesign of GameHeart after my kickstarter it will be much more feasible to do. Well I am almost done with my rework of GameHeart and if you are interested in trying to get the two working together again I think it will indeed be relatively easy to do now. Actually GameHeart is broken down into small modules so you can easily pick and choose which features you like and add them to Starbow (such as team logo support or stronger team colors) all without requiring any real extra work on your end.
Anyways let me know. I can be reached on skype as rtschutter and by email at TeamGameHeart@gmail.com
If you are planning to convert Starbow into an extension mod and are having any issues with it please let me know. I have been working with the extension mod system for a bit now and I have developed a few systems in GameHeart to help me convert it into an extension mod that might help you as well. This includes a 'map detection' system that could allow you to make specific changes to specific maps to make them more appropriate for Starbow even in extension mod form.
Great work!

gratz on biscuit adsie should really capitalize on it update op with it make a tutorial video out of it by remaking the audio for such a purpose

Anyway, some battles in the unit tester confirmed my concerns: Bio rapes Ultra/ling/Viper quite badly actually - Even in an open area: I think a big part of the issue here is that Ultra's really are bad vs Firebat/Maurauder as they take forever to kill them when healed. In BW, a Marine heavy composition would also be more vulnerable to Lurkers, but with the introduction of the Maurauder, bio now tanks and kills a lot faster vs Ultralisks. W/ zerg you will lack gas as Impact did in the game if you go for heavy lurker + spellcaster (defiler or Viper) + Ultralisks, and Lings scale quite poorly vs Firebats.
So something needs to be done, because otherwise bio +SV's will a-move stomp everything.
3 different types of solutions
1) What about giving Ultralisks splash damage as in Sc2? Besides, making the game more balanced in TvZ, I think it also adds more micro to the game (splitting vs Ultralisks can be quite fun). One concern is ofc how it will look vs protoss - Not sure about that, but from the games I played vs Ultralisks (as toss), it seemd that Dragoons were quite good vs. them.
2) Nerf to bio units. Maybe Maurauder HP too high, medi healing too high (?).
3) This is a bit "crazy": Make the baneling the counter to clumped up armored units instead of light units. This is actually my favourute suggestion, and could be awesome for the game, but........ it is extremely unintuitive . But let's look at the advantages of this suggestion;
- Help differentiate the baneling from the Lurker. - Force the bio player to split up his units --> This creates synergy w/ Ultralisks and Speedlings (as they can get better surface area) --> Overall buff to zerg vs bio. - Make the Siege Tank more important vs zerg in the late game (unless the terran player has insane splits). Though vs Siege Tanks, I guess we might see a lot of Baneling-bombs which might be pretty exciting (but also imbalanced?). - Could make it usefull vs protoss. Watching Banelings vs Dragoons could be quite fun?
