I'm not in the materia, so i'll just ask flatout: are 1.4m black people prohibited from voting by "legal means" in Florida?

But DeSantis sure does associate with a lot of overt racists, per the extensive reporting by numerous news outlets and his own speaking record.

This doesn’t seem to bother the majority of Florida voters. So I feel safe in saying that the potential that DeSantis is a huge racist doesn’t bother a lot of Florida voters.

And I still don't see how that makes 20 million people racist. Certainly there could be racist/bad laws that exist or bad people, but certainly not all 20 million.

To be clear, Boston is super god damn racist too. None of us are free of sin. This is not a problem unique to Florida.

The 1.4 million is likely a reference to number of people in Florida who are going to have their right to vote returned by the passage of the amendment restoring voting rights to felons who have completed their sentences (approximately 9.2% of the population of Florida, with about a third of that being African Americans). Will certainly make for an interesting next election cycle.

Florida requires ex-felons who have served their time to ask a commission made up of Rick Scott and some other people for their right to vote back, and that commission not only heard very few people, but was pretty whimsical - there were no rules or regulations governing it, and the people asking for their right to vote back were not even owed an explanation of the decision. The 1.4 million is the number of people who just got their voting rights restored via ballot initiative to make restoration of voting rights automatic, and they are disproportionately black.

I was going to drink if the blue wave happened And I was going to drink if the red wave happened But neither of those are happening
At least I made a bunch of money off of bets. A couple wild dollars didn't materialize, but still ended up with more than I started with

In all honesty the amount of people that voted this time around in FL is pretty crazy. It shows people are much more engaged with what's going on. It also shows that a lot of mail in ballots from Democrats really just didn't care since they were never returned.

Gillum using the race card so much was so off putting, nah, disgusting, very happy.
This is nothing like 2010, just history repeating itself (House flipping). But excellent night in the Senate. The GOP needs to handle its suburban problem, but they seem acutely aware of that, and I hope Trump is as well. He said something like that recently.
Also lots of lefties ran as moderates and won, fun to see if they follow their heart or their brain when House Democrats start raining subpoenas and left wing legislation down on everyone.
btw, the House flip doesnt have any sort of precedent for presidential elections. The record is all over the place.

I'm sure trump will be on top of that nuance right away.

Another big thing in Florida is that the next governor gets to appoint 3 new state supreme court justices. The long term implications of that means that a red leaning state like Florida would like to look in red justices.

The blue wave was more of a whimper than a bang. The average seat loss for a midterm when the president is <50% approval is 37, and 538 has Democrats right on track for that with +35. Combined with losing more than expected in the Senate it's like a C-

This is a great example of overreach. unless there is actual collusion (lol) it's a mistake.

I realize it won't hold but Utah is making me laugh pretty hard right now
edit: full blue Iowa also won't hold and also pretty funny

The next 2 years will be interesting if nothing else. I read somewhere (was it here?) that Muellers initial report could come out as soon as this week. I expect that the firing of Sessions will be shortly before or after that happens.
Dems winning the house drastically increases the odds of another Saturday night massacare.

100% agree. This race sucks for Floridians. I voted for Putnam in the primary. Now I have to choose between moldy bread and a rusty nail (you decide who is what).
