FL-26 got flipped, so it looks like the Dems might just barely take the House

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/11/06/us/elections/results-house-forecast.html

The ny forecast has democrats solidly in the lead for house, at ~232 seats, and senate at 53 for repubs.

It also seems to be a lot less volatile than the 538 one.

I was following 538 and it was crazy how quickly it changed, hopefully this model is right

it was like that in the first hour or two, they changed it to only react to called races and it's a lot more stable now.

Well, here's a list of the major trackers:

Bloomberg https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-midterm-election-results/?view=H&filter=none
CNN: https://edition.cnn.com/election/2018/results/house
538 live blog: https://fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/2018-election-results-coverage/?ex_cid=extra_banner
Fox: https://www.foxnews.com/midterms-2018
NYTimes: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/11/06/us/elections/results-house-forecast.html

It's a nailbiter in a lot of cases, but seems likely that democrats retake house by a solid margin, and repubs solidify senate lead by ~2 seats.

After the first few hours things seem to have settled down a bit.

Fuck the senate, governors seats are huge. Sadly Florida isn’t going well, but it’s hard when 1.4 million black men can’t vote. And the state is pretty god damn racist. But next time around it will be a different story.

Romney's made a comeback, because he's the new Utah senator. I suspect there will be a hope he could be one of the "principled conservatives" to be the bulwark against Trump, but I'm sure he'll bend the knee like all the rest of the moderate Rs in senate. As for Cruz-Beto, well, there was a slim chance for the miracle Doug Jones upset in my heart, but I knew it was a lalaland fantasy.

How do the Americans feel about the results? I know this thread is mostly Democrats, so are you satisfied with the Senate sacrifices and some state governors disappointments in exchange for control of the House? Seems like losing the Senate seats to solidify the Republican majority is a really bitter pill to swallow.

Florida continues to be Florida. This is a joint amendment because Florida.

Reminder that the clown stalking/sighting trend started in Florida too.

Only 33 of the 100 seats in the senate are up for grabs. The democrats are defending this election. 2020 is a god damn blood bath for Republicans. A lot of senators people do not like are on the ballot.

It sucks, but it’s the nature of the beast. Democrats were never going main gains in the senate this election. But the filibuster still exists. Republicans can’t do shit without Democratic support.

They also solidify the west coast a bit more (Not that R had much chance there anyways) and women's votes.

It probably cost the Indiana senate seat since Donnelly voted against him.

Woah dude, that is hugely out of line. Florida is not a racist state. How can you generalize a group of people like that? Maybe if Gillum didn't threaten to run our economy into a deficit he would have gotten more votes. To make this a race issue is just absurd. DeSantis is a very unexciting candidate, but at least he didn't threaten to tax the hell out of our state.

Your vote: If Democrats take the house

I know how my Republicans homies feel, but I am curious about Democrats.

It is an uphill fight for sure. No easy wins for democrats tonight. The hope is they pick up enough governors seats to undo the gerrymandering.

No matter what happens, people will be pissed tomorrow. Bitter, resentful politics for the next decade or more.

Edit: I would also watch PA, that had its gerrymandering overturned by their Supreme Court. It gives you an idea of how much of an advantage Republicans gave themselves in 2010.

You aren't kidding about gerrymandering. NYT is projecting D+9.6 popular vote yet Dems are projected to only gain a low 30 seat majority.

It gives you an idea of how much of an uphill battle democrats had and seem to be pulling ahead with. The Republicans build themselves a huge firewall. No surprises in the senate, but the House is slowly turning out for the Democrats.

Give her two more years. She can take the heat from both sides while a successor materializes. All she has to do is fundraise and whip votes. She can preach bipartisanship and whatever else while the Democratic caucus does work investigating Trump and crafting legislation.
