Presuming/hoping Bernie/Biden doesn't run again in 2024. I think they may try and push Pete Buttigieg, since hes not prehistoric. Kamala will obviously see play 'cause VP. They seem the most likely based on age, but I dont think we're going to see any decent leftist-Bernie-type candidates next go around. Stacey Abrams. She's not my preference, but she's the most charismatic establishment figure among the democrats right now. The democrats did so poorly in 2010 that it's STILL affecting their roster - all the "normal" candidates for 2024 would be people who won their first race around then.

From my googling the people who didnt vote for her are Jared Golden-MA, Connor Lamb-PA voted for someone else, and Mikie Sherill-NJ, Elissa Slotkin-MI, and HOLY SHIT Abigail Spanberger-My District abstained. ABIGAIL SPANBERGER didn't vote for her and called for new leadership but THE GOD DAMNED SQUAD VOTED FOR PELOSI? What concessions did they earn for this, what power did the Squad gain, what committee seats, what anything was gained for this?! There's a few things going on here. The main reason is that Pelosi was one of the better options. If you look at who opposed her last time and who voted against her, those are conservative democrats. Tim Ryan, Connor Lamb? Pelosi is more to the squad's favor than they would be, or any of their candidates would be. There are only a handful of non-squad leftists from the past twenty years, and many of them were driven out (rightfully or not ) of congress for various reasons. The most infamous is the case of Kucinich, who was a leftist who said he was opposing the ACA due to a lack of public option. His district was taken away during a redistricting and he left congress to go on to be very bitter as a frequent Fox News guest who is willing to be critical of democrats: he's entirely justified in this, imo. The squad themselves have all stated that they don't feel qualified to be speaker at all currently, or at least, AOC has, and I suspect the rest would agree. It takes more than 2 years of experience to handle that job. Their real options if they want someone to back them would be someone from outside of congress like Kucinich (which, btw, is totally legal : the speaker doesn't have to be a member of the house, strangely). Pelosi is milquetoast and kinda shitty, but she's one of the better options they have : she HAS brought up many progressive bills up like the Green New Deal and been an OK compromise candidate. She's a terrible figurehead, but an excellent in person negotiator - realistically, that makes her an amazing whip (second in command) and a mediocre speaker, but she's not going to accept a demotion. She's a liability during elections but a positive for actual governance. IMO, of democratic leadership, Schumer is the actual issue : he's just bad. Essentially Pelosi without any of her good qualities.

I wasn't following politics much if at all back in 2010, so unfortunately I can't speak too much to how that shook out though. I'd be very curious to see how Abrams would do as president though, I wonder if her GA organizing could translate nationally and lead to less Democrat election mediocrity during midterms and the like.

ngl, this is hard trying to live report, look at results, watch my games get cast on CPL, and the Laker game all at once. I really need like 5 monitors for days like this.

In the mean time, nothing can really be reported on until those day-of votes get in. What we see in counties like Fulton, Cobb, Clayton, etc are all the absentee which are obviously heavily Dem favored. Once we have an idea of how the rest of the ballots are, we can make a projection.

Essentially Pelosi without any of her good qualities. I would have at least liked to see them make a show of it. AOC calling Pelosi "mama bear" and then blanket supporting her feels like a serious betrayal and shakes my faith in the squad to act as the kind of force I wanted to see challenging Democrats from within. While I understand thats entirely performative, it would be nice to see people who I consider to represent my values at least try and fight a futile fight once in a while. Republicans seem fantastic at that, even if generally in about the worst possible way. I might legitimately have preferred a more conservative Democrat as speaker if it meant seeing the squad make a stink, screw with Democrats, and prove that they're happy to throw a wrench into the Democrats works in order to potentially get some concessions here or there. Throw some muscle around, show your constituents you're there fighting for them, not going along to get along. Like right now I just dont see what the point of the squad is over any bargain basement Democrat. I don't think I'm even particularly upset that Pelosi is back in power so much as I am disappointed that the squad just let it happen completely cleanly and for nothing. No display of resistance, no doomed M4A vote, just... "Trump is bad and we have to unity so we voted for Pelosi!" I find it incredibly disheartening. Fuck Schumer too though, I hope he gets primaried. Only thing Ive ever liked him for was calling for Biden to forgive 50K of student debt, a half measure as far as I'm concerned, and something Biden has said he doesn't really even think he has the power to do. Eh, in general I'm just very unhappy with Democrats, and really every politician we have right now, maybe I'm just being too cynical.

David Wasserman noting that Republican turnout isn't at the level they need to comfortably win. But Democratic turnout in Macon is outperforming even Biden's.

But the same day vote is still heavily favored to Dems in Atlanta area which is where the majority of votes are left.
