I have no idea what I am doing on the strategy layer, it is completely new when compared to any other Xcom games I played.
I got one region to advent strength 5 and got scared and switched everyone there to supply and recruit and went to do missions in another region with 2 advent strength. I don't know how to get its strength down now. Maybe some of them move to this other region I am doing missions in now as I read they can do that. Or maybe I should switch my rebels back to Intel in that region and hope to get the some mission that reduces Advent strength.
I have also unlocked access to last mission in that area that Liberates it (I need to assault advent HQ). Does doing that mission successfully reduce Advent strength in area?

Naw don't worry about advent strength in the beginning. Plus doing any missions raises it as it causes the ai to notice activity in the area. the only way to lower strength would be to put them in hiding and hope it moves to another region.
Keeping most on intel to get missions to lower strength is probably your best bet.

What do you consider beginning? I just got access to laser weapon and already met my first Muton on Broadcast tower mission. Other missions now have Vipers, Stun Lancers and Advent MECs as normal.

Still early game imo.
You can lure the advent forces away from a high strength province by doing missions in other provinces, preferably some distance away. You can also get missions which reward you with reduced advent strength and ofc if you just go do the base attack liberation mission then their strength is totally gone from that province as you liberate it. That mission is equivalent to doing a supply raid on swarming though, had 45 aliens in my first one.

Dumb question, but what do missions that drop intel packages actually do? I feel like Ive never found an intel package in these missions or I am like missing something super obvious lol. I feell dumb

Lw2 has really thought me about the importance of flash bang grenades. In vanilla I considered them to be poor-mans mimic beacon. But they are super-important in LW2, especially now that I'm starting to see ADVENT rocketeers
|
So tactical dark events are permanent in LW2. GL if you get the reduced explosive dmg early on.
|
Not all of them are permanent, it's an interesting take on ramping dificulty imo
|
Yes, strategic ones are not, tactical ones are.

Recently bought this via humble bundle monthly for $12. I had some problems with steam though. The game crashed every 2 minutes just after installing so i thought my graphics card or something did not met the requirements. Just before i lost all hope i tried verifying local cache and voila! 2 gigs of download and the game is perfectly fine.

You can research it (spending intel) to get a base location.
I've been playing a campaign for a good many hours now, and I think I'm getting near losing territory. Timer has gone up as I'm infiltrating a swarming base, and sectopods have just begun to show up. I figure if I can't win without savescumming it's gg for me.
Edit: confused with data item thing, the guy below me is right.

A point of interest usually appears on the geoscape after you finish the mission, but it seems to be bugged right now. I got a few in the early game, but now they stopped appearing. It might just be a feature though since they also start giving out facility leads later on.

What classes do you guys make into officers in your LW2 campaigns? I make all my specialists into officers.
|
Specialists and shinobis.
For 2 man stealth ops, it's handy to have the shinobi as the ranking officer to be able to give the specialist an extra action from stealth. That way you can drop the smoke far from the objective in good cover out of los, then next turn use command to have the specialist enough move to hack the obj and gtfo in the same turn.
|
Assaults and Shinobis for me.
Kinda b/c both classes are only used situationally by me, i.e Shinobi normally function as pure stealth spotters and assaults to either biotank, drop a smoke/flash from time to time or finish with run&gun. So both classes got "actions to spare" for officer stuff.
All other classes need their actions all the time for other stuff, esp. specialists for me (hack, medkit heal, smokes/flash, revive protocol to remove disorient, or even simple Aid protocol to help out that biotank/flamer that went in). I guess Flamethrower dudes would be handy, too, as that way they could do stuff when their rocket/flame is gone, but I only use those for big heavy+ missions, so I'd miss out the bonuses on the many standard 3-5 man missions.

So far in my LW2 campaign (early June), I've only had the first part of the Alien Hunters DLC trigger (Old Skyranger scansite that gives you the new weapons) and nothing of Shen's Last Gift. Has this been the case for anyone else

LW is kicking my fucking ass. I simply dont have enough soldiers to go on all the missions and eventually I just get fucked over by too many dark events happening and me not having enough supplies to do anything holy crap. I can make it 4-5 months in pretty consistently and get advanced lasers/early magnetic but then I just start dying horribly. Ive never had more than 3 countries because I have no idea how to get enough money to buy resistance coms, proving grounds and an advanced warfare center, let alone buying enough lasers to equip even one team.
Im playing Commander/ironman, is there like some kind of guide out there that turns me from a semi-scrub into someone competent?^^

Key to getting supplies is liberating your first zone real fast and then that starts making you a lot of supplies.
