Granted I'd be trying to sleep whatever chance I had cause I didn't care much at that time. Difficult? For sure but not impossible.

When I went to middle school in Korea (like 20 years ago lol) some students did most of their learning and studying outside of school through tutors and afterschool academies so some of the teachers just gave up and let students sleep in their classes. Then there would be students like Rain who took advantage of that. One of my friends was like that where he would play starcraft all night and would literally sleep in class all day and this was not occassionally. If I think about it now the teachers probably didn't want to deal with parents calling the school and complaining about waking their kids up.

Yeah, but 'going to school' is implied that he actually studied and take notes. It seems like he only went to school to sleep and played starcraft outside. So when did he have the time to study?

Yeah, tutor culture is kind of insane in Korea it seems.

Going to school does not, in fact, imply that he actually studied and took notes. The implication is that he basically never studied at all and barely scraped by.

Yeah that very clearly is the implication! Speaking also as someone who absolutely FUCKED school because I hated it with all my passion, and only had the night time to actually live my own life.

Yeah, tutor culture is kind of insane in Korea it seems. most of my friends schedule was something like school-academy-tutor to 2am-homework-sleep my schedule in highschool was in US so it wasn't that hard, but it was still school-academy-tutor to 10-11pm/homework-sleep korean academic attitude in general were pretty common to be like this
