Also, re Phalson. Canuck fans, you have to realize that while in 2007 Phalson was a great shut down center he is no longer so. So this dream of Kessler suddenly being unshackled and allowed to 'go back to his 41 goal' season is just that, a dream. Phalson will play a series as the shut down guy because the Canucks will play vs someone crappy in 7th or 8th and then when they have to play a Central Division team in the 2nd round Phalson will go back to the press box.
On what are you basing this? He may not be as good, but he's still a quality shut down player. Incidentally, his name is Pahlsson. Phalson is not even close.
On watching him fail against teams like Detroit and offensive Juggernauts like Nashville and Florida because I get NHL's center ice package?

Yeah you're right. It has been 60 minutes. BLOW IT UP! KASSIAN DIDN'T SCORE A HAT TRICK! SEND HIM TO THE ECHL!
It's against Pheonix, which we general destory.
Yotes are on their usual February till the playoffs run so I wouldnt really worry about it. Besides, Gillis got him for the playoffs right? So the Canucks cant be 'intimidated' so you should just take it easy for the next month on Kassian.

Last game against Phoenix was 1-1 into a shootout. This game against Phoenix was 1-1 into a shootout. Wow.

If Gillis got Kassian for the playoffs than Gillis is really stupid. Our team was built the style Detriot is, skill over phyisical play. We have Bitz, Weise, Oreo, Duco, Stefan Schneider, Mancari, or even Polasek for "intimidation"
There is also speculation that Hodgson got traded because his agent had a meeting with AV and asked for a little more ice time. and that AV wanted a 3 checking 3rd line instead of an offensive 3rd line. You can clearly see Sedins are starting to fail and you trade away one of our top secondary scorers.
I'm not going to say anymore and just when the playoff comes and we needed secondary scoring i'll laugh at Gillis/AV's face.

Well, were you also mad at what they gave up for Ballard? Because this is just Gillis style. Overpay for assets that on paper 'should' bring something to the table but dont, never trust your AHL guys because..i dont know...Nonis picked some of them?

Ballard's trade was fine. Grabner had no spot on this team, and he had to go through waivers for AHL so we just traded him for Ballard. I like Ballards play, he's willing to stand up for himself and his teammates, is physical, willing to go down and block shots, end to end rushes is also epic. Also, the AHL guys i mentions were all after Nonis era, Gillis picked them. After watching Hodgson play today, i'm super sad.
That ballard trade was dumb if only beacuse he is one of the last practicioners of the art of hipcheck, and AV hates him and plays scrubs like Rome over him.
I can't believe that the this hit got a 2 min minor for roughing because he hit him

I'm just going to point out that Hodgson wasn't even an integral part of the cup run last season. He either played incredibly minor minutes, or didn't play at all.
That said, I'm still on the fence about the trade. If Kassian reaches his projected potential, which is a top 6 power forward, then I'll be happy with the trade. On the flipside Hodgson was a fan favorite and was essentially being brought up as a future leader of the Canucks, and was managing to improve even with his incredibly limited minutes and role.
It's a trade that I really don't think you can fairly judge until both players have played at least a couple full seasons in the NHL. Is it a fair 1 to 1 trade right NOW? Probably not. Might it be in the future? It's entirely possible.
If there's anything to get angry about when it comes to the Canucks it's Mason Raymond. I have no idea what the team see's in him. Falls down a million times a game, kills drives, and generally doesn't do shit. He's a decent checker and penalty killer, so I don't know why they keep trying to force him onto the second line. Put Booth-Kesler-Higgins back together and let them rebuild the chemistry they had before Booth got hurt.

I would really really really have loved it if that it was Raymond that got traded. But, i guess even the Sabres don't want him hehe
don't forget paccorretty flopping like a retard with an open net ahead of him, and the Habs letting the goal 15 seconds later to tie the game and send it to OT

I agree that the Nucks are built for skill rather than grit, but Vancouver has been looking for a power forward for quite some time now. Taylor Pyatt, David Backes (who they gave an offer sheet to), Steve Bernier (traded for him), traded for Oreskovich (and Ballard), and now traded a high end player in Hodgson for Kassian. It's pretty clear that this has been a priority for them for quite some time.
