It's been awhile since the Canucks have had a game like this. Just please, don't let it happen again for awhile.

Conner Crisp is a center. The original goalie, Ramis Sadikov was injured 1:45 in when he was smoked by a forward who got 5 for charging and a game misconduct. The back-up was hurt on Saturday. So the Otters wrote Crisp, a player they planned to scratch, in the goalie position on the line-up card for the hell of it. Crazy story lol

I thought the story was cool and all when I first heard about it, but I was more disturbed by the 2 head shots that happened in the game (including the goalie run) after watching the game highlights. What's wrong with these kids?

What's wrong with these kids? Well, most of them know they arent good enough for the NHL on their skill so they are doing it the other route, by trying to become future enforces. So they have to play dirty and with an 'edge' so that old fossils who still put together teams based on slowing the game down and fighting will find them and recruit.

Old fossils like the entire league? Penalties are down to 2.5 per game the last 20 or so, and goal scoring is at the leagues lowest rate since 2003 with this years solid 5.4 goals per game. ![]() http://dropyourgloves.com/Stat/LeagueGoals.aspx Watch an NHL game, they don't call stick/holding infractions anymore for whatever reason. Very much clutch and grab era two. Penalties are at an all time low level they haven't been at in 40 years. That's a fact. EDIT: Also known as some Oiler fan QQing that his team hasn't had a powerplay in the last three games... 2006 we get seven powerplays a game and can't score once, now we have the best powerplay in the damn league and can't get a powerplay. >.<

Or the Rangers are number 1 in the East? And yes, most of the league is made up of recycled GMs and recycled coaches who like to ice goons for at least 5 minutes a game. There few teams are prepared to play Vancouver/Detroit style of hockey because that requires skill not only among the players but throughout the organization to identify the kind of players that can actually play that style. But look at Phoenix or the Blues. Why bother building a Detroit when you can just choke the neutral zone and clutch and grab to success? Anyway, that is why the lower leagues like the OHL or the WHL are so violent. Kids down there know that very few of them have the skill to be a legitimate top line forward or a 3rd line two way forward so they are left with 4th line goonery as an aspirational role and since you dont really need to know how to skate or shoot or do anything except take peoples heads and act like a jerk thats what they practice.

I hope the Jets can make the playoffs if we can't. At least their fans deserve it and will show everybody that it was a good thing giving them back their team.

Not entirly sure why we didn't get 3 or more but I guess NHL refs aint calling those sticks to the mid section hooks or holds

As someone who played Junior B (10 minutes a night son! <.<) for a couple years, that isn't necessarily the case. Most of these guys just do what they are told, to make it to that level you have to either be exceptionally talented, physically gifted (IE big), or both. Trust me when I say, you have an opportunity to finish a check and don't... you hear about it on the bench. Most coaches would have rathered you you get your elbows up and dirty than you decide to let up. I mean, this was 4-5 years ago... but still. In fact, most of the tougher guys you play against on the ice are like the nicest people you'd ever meet. On March 06 2012 14:30 Orcasgt24 wrote: 1for1 on the PP vs ANA tonight. There should have been atleast 6-7 blatant holding/hooking calls against both teams that were just ignored. Its like the refs are just making shit up... it isn't even like they couldn't have seen them, they all lasted for a solid 5 or 6 seconds and ended with the guy on the ice. Literally half of them were penalties DURING the pre-lockout era.

Leafs just signed Gabs for 5.5mil a year for the next 5 years. Way over his value especially with the new bargaining agreement coming up. -_- It was rumored at 5mil and the only thing they couldn't agree on was the term but this is just ridiculous. Thank you Oilers for over paying Hemsky.

Anyway -- how long do ya'll figure Crosby is going to be playing for before someone finally ends his career? Not a Crosby fan but him being crippled in his mid 20s and Ovechkin becoming just awful at hockey makes me pretty sad as a fan of the game.

If you really think that goonery and clutch and grab are the reasons these teams are having sucess you need to take your blinders off. These teams are sucessful because they have players that complement the system who are very good in their own right. If it were easy to build an elite defensive team, there would be 30 of them in the league. Some teams choose to build differently starting with the pieces and organization they have. It's not like playing sound defense is easy or something that's bad to do. Very few teams play the Vancouver/Detroit style, because it's very rare to find elite offensive talent that can play two ways. Not every team is blessed with those guys being availible to draft or are a destination that every UFA has on thier radar.

Thank you Oilers for over paying Hemsky. How is Hemsky overpaid? Hemsky makes just 500k (or less) more than players like Ville Leino, Brooks Laich, David Booth, Kristian Huselius, Dustin Penner, Simon Gagne, Pierre Marc-Bouchard, Erik Cole, Rene Bourque, Martin Erat, David legwand, Mike Fisher, Brandon Dubinski, Daymond Langkow, Andy Macdonald, Ryan Malone, and Tim Connolly. Quite frankly, I'd rather have Hemsky than almost all of these players, not to mention that half of these contracts were signed when the cap was 5+ million less than it will be to start next season. He makes the same amount of money as players like Gionta, Horcoff, Plekanecs, Havlat.. He makes ~2 million less than players like Pomenville, Cammaleri, Riberio, Gomez, Elias, Marleau, Lecavelier... and imo when Hemmer on his game he brings almost as much as most of these players.
