he started practicing and resumed contact practice literally yesterday i think??

Hmm, Crosby's $8.7m/yr contract expires next year. If Sid shows good health in these last few games and the playoffs does Pittsburgh try to re-sign before the new CBA? Also, J Staal's currently cap-friendly $4m ends, I'd have to think they re-sign Crosby before thinking about Staal. Problem is, if the cap is at current level, they would have a tough time giving Staal a raise.

It would be a pr disaster if they were to not resign Sid.
That really will be an interesting scenario though

The league will apparently think about bringing back the redline at the GM meetings.
I sure hope that is just an excuse for them to have something to do in Florida because i don't even know what the fuck

i hope the NHL goes to Sochi in 2014 so people can see how much better the game plays on the larger ice surface.
players are at least 25% larger than the players who played hockey back when 85' X 200' was the agreed standard ice surface.

Eh I never cared much for the larger rinks. It's plenty entertaining now offensively, with a much more pronounced physical element. It still exists on the bigger rinks, but there's a lot more space for shifty players to go
|
nahh... NHL Hockey in the 1960s 70s and early 80s was better.. and there was more room on the ice.. and moer goals.
|
I am in the minority in that I definitely do not find more goals automatically means more excitement. I love 2-1, 1-0 games.
|
more room means more fun... more improvising... more open areas for the best to show their stuff... more comebacks...
more egomaniac star players who can score at will unwilling to play "the Lou Lamierrello system of defensive hockey"...
right now i find women's hockey more entertaining than the NHL... the women are approximately the same size as the men in the 1960s and 1970s

You think the owners are going to give up a couple thousand seats for larger ice? Not a chance.

You think the owners are going to give up a couple thousand seats for larger ice? Not a chance. Ya exactly. They'd rather bring back the red line. And with the way they are handing out long term contracts like they are candy they've already basically undone the salary cap. But I guess if I were a ranger fan i'd still be pretty happy, the cap is the only thing that kept Sather from doing something stupid for a while now.

But also, what the hell canucks. When Luongo is in net, minimal effort. When Scneider is back there, 46 shots. I get it that you guys dont like him, no one really does, but jesus, I need that guy to not suck for another month so step up your shit.

Kassian bench in 3rd period. He dun goofed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How about Hansen triple-shifting? Also liking that second line, don't change it AV.

Giving players big salaries is not the same thing as having no salary cap...

He wasn't getting a whole lot otherwise either. He had what, 6 min??
So much for that trade ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
maybe it gets somewhere near even three years down the road, but they'll be pining for secondary scoring that Hodgson would have brought when the Sedins get shut down by a defensive team that is fast and phsyical and they're relying only on Kess. Better pray they avoid Nashville, Phoenix and St. Louis. They will all match up well vs Vancouver.

actually the opposite is true if you approach it properly...
Let's examine the Basketball Court, Hockey Rink, Baseball Field, NFL Football Field, and Euro FOotball/Soccer Field.
the best stadiums for viewing Basketball games is much smaller than the best Stadiums for viewing Euro Football/Soccer.
the size of the stadiums most appropriate for each of these 5 sports is increasing in size...
so it goes...
Basketball < Hockey < Baseball < NFL Football < Euro Football/Soccer.
as the field of play increases in size... the size of an appropriate stadium grows.
so ... a European Hockey Rink with the best appropriate kind of stadium built around it would hold more people NOT LESS. so as the current NHL Rinks are phased out ... they can build 24,000 seat stadiums build around olympic sized rinks...
Let's examine hockey richest most expensive ticket to examine your claim about current rinks hosting a Euro Rink game:
Toronto's Air Canada Centre can hold a 200' by 100' rink with the removal of only 2 rows of the side seats.. the seating on either end of the goal lines does not change at all... that is hardly "a couple thousands of seats". furthermore, all they do is ... move up the platinums by 2 more rows... and the golds.. reds .. and so on.. so all MLSE loses is 2 rows of PURPLES or GRAYs...
how much is a GRAY Seat ? $55? big deal... pocket change for MLSE.

That will NEVER happen in the NHL.
Speculation ends there.

in the 70s and 80s there were different sized rinks in different cities. the Original Montreal Forum was larger than 200' X 85' and held way more seats than the original Boston Garden.
as the players continue to grow in size it will be seen as the only viable option. and the new stadiums will be able to hold more people generating more revenue.
the Molson family remembers those "good old days" when the Forum brought in more money than any other rink in North America.
non goalies and their equipment are not going to stop growing this year. both will only get bigger and bigger.
The Saddledome in Calgary is already made for 200X100.
