Diagrams
Based on all votes, all votes including the missing votes this round, and a distribution diagram on the geometric position of the voted moves on the board. The statistics only consider the active members at each time. (Don't miss the vote distribution in plain numbers hidden under the spoiler tag.)
Cheers! -me
Board design taken from Dasher of ICC, diagrams taken from Microsoft Excel - copyright, TM, etc, blah blah.

Original Post
UPDATE with STARTING TIME
Starting date is 3rd August midnight EST.
I will start a few hours earlier to give you guys some extra hours. Thus I will post a picture of the board and the colours - and you will have all the way till Saturday midnight to discuss and decide.
As the game starts this post will move down in a spoiler tag to the place of the third post in the thread, along with the old posts. The second post will be the all time list of participants and the first post will be the actual position of all times.
INFORMATION
Alright, nerds I think it's about time - the last Chess Match went dormant more than a year now.
I propose starting a new one.
The Definition
Chess match resembles a strange mix of simultaneous chess and what you might know as 'team melee'. Basically it's 1 vs many, but instead of more than one game going on, the group side of the table takes votes for each move. Naturally, the move getting the most votes are made for the group and so on.
The Way it Works
Taking ideas from previous events, I would post a screenshot of the actual position as well as a pgn after each move of mine. You would have to post a one-liner post giving your votes when it's your turn, and also you can and should post your reasons behind the move in spoilers. The reason for spoilers is that I will not read them and that way I can keep counting the votes without needing to ask for outside help for enumerating your votes. The reason why you should post your thoughts is simple. It's a community event after all. It's about sharing, arguing about and mixing thoughts. I would like to seriously underline though not to start listening to supposedly good players or better known members just because you think they are good at chess or better than you are. Even if you make a mistake, I find it very important that you vote on a move that you can actually like, not only because someone suggested it and it's shiny. (It wouldn't hurt my ego if I lost, but I would be sad for the sake of having fun* if I found during my post game analysis that the moves were almost entirely from opening books and engine suggestions.) (* I mean you having fun. I will have a blast either ways.) I encourage everyone to keep track of their ideas and we could keep up a sibling-thread to post your questions to me in spoilers, or ideas during the game that I could answer one-by-one once it is over.
Time Control
It is now decided to be 3 days for each move. I might speed up my turn to give you guys a faster paced game, but I don't promise anything.
Summary
That should about sum it up. I would suggest starting in about three weeks (sometimes around the 14th of August). For one it would give enough time for people to sign up, for another reason; it would be close to when I'll be having time again. I can dish out the first couple of moves without need of deep analysis, and that should by me enough time to settle back after coming back from Europe. I encourage you to sign up even if you are not sure, or you think you are bad at chess, or afraid you would be trolled because you make bad moves. This isn't about winning or losing, this is about the community, and we can always start a next game as well. Also sign up if you don't think you can always vote or you are afraid you might lose interest. It never hurts to vote every now and then and no one will hunt you down and hurt you if you stop... Though you never know in today's world.
You can sign up here or in a PM anytime - even after the start of the event.
Enough of this. Sign up, vote, discuss.
Peace out! -me

This would be awesome! Who would be the one person though?
|
|
So are you some kind of chess god? O_o anyways this kinda feels like Mario Party.
|
I'm in.
P.S. What happened to the marathon stream?
|
I would like to sign up for this if possible.
|
|
|
I would play as well.
PS: should totally be an earlier option on the august 14th poll
|
I will definitely participate.
Get ready to be owned nub.
|
|
sounds awesome but I hope you aren't some chess demigod who stomps all over our hopes and dreams xp

Woooo! I'm hyped for this!
I had so much fun the last 2. Stuff was sick and some really awesome players showed up. I think 3 days is too much thou :p 2 should be fine, I mean think about it 2 moves per week? But I don't mind, I'll play anyway.
You should also make a huge point on your stance on using engines etc. We had an incident in the last match were a dude tried to sabotage the game using one and tried to justify it saying "I'm an IM anyway so it doesn't matter." Dude almost ruined the game.

Got sabotaged by my awful internet and other things that happened. I wrote a few lines about it a few days ago in its thread. I cannot promise to do another anytime soon as I will have roommates now and I still don't want to spend a day preparation, 24 hour chess and then 16 hour sleep in the two weeks when I'm home with my family.
I will try to do shorter but more regular streams. Crossing fingers at least.

Cannot promise that. My internet is not reliable here and I will have an operation one week after I finish. Anything sooner than three weeks from now is a sure now. Even that is pushing it a little.

I can't really do anything. Say if there's fifty people signed up, I can keep track of their suggested moves and check them after the game, but without investing hours into just double checking move suggestions on a personal basis every few days - which I would rather spend on presenting quality lectures on my stream - I cannot ensure. Also - while I might have intuitions on people cheating - I cannot check them quickly with my engine if I want to stay legit, myself. And I would strongly encourage everyone against doing volunteer moderation or volunteer sheriff service. That's something every hobby chess site does, and they all fail at it horribly. Plus it would just derail from your fun. I may be an idealistic bastard, but I will leave it up to your personal conscience. As I said before, winning is not of importance for me. A lot of my best games ever were lost ones. I do aim at getting the part of the community that's interested in chess rolling more and help building it. I would lie if I said I don't fully expect at least one person to cheat - and the 'better' they are (or they think they are) the more likely they will stray off the path. But the most I can do is trying to keep it fun for you guys.

This sounds awesome! It reminds me of the correspondence chess that was commonly played in prisons not too long ago. I'm all for it.
If I can ask - what's your FIDE/USCF rating?
|
Sounds interesting. I may give it a try if I have time.
