It may not be absolutely best for White, but it's very much playable and it regularly leads to unusual positions and fun games, in my experience.I open with c4(English) myself. If I had to choose d4 or e4, I would go d4, since I hate playing e4 now. Plenty of openings to use against it (Sicilian, Caro-Kann, Alekhine, French Defense).

edit: Just asking because there's always confusion when people try to communicate times across timezones, conversions get fucked up, etc.

Is that Central? I'll be GMT +1 for two weeks to come than back to here for the start of the semester. Edit: I tend to have bad sleeping habits, though so it really doesn't matter every now and then. With the new semester I'll be forced to only have time in the evening/night though. Hopefully my timetable won't collide with the USCL.

Hopefully my timetable won't collide with the USCL. It's not so much about when you're available as it is about avoiding confusion for when deadlines are for people to post moves, that kind of thing. I'd recommend giving an explicit time in GMT whenever you're announcing a deadline for the next move to be tallied up.

After giving it some thoughts and seeing how the starting time poll does not cover half the number of participants I decided to start the game from Wednesday (3rd August). This will give you guys a whole Thursday, Friday and Saturday to think. I will update the OP tonight to reflect this. When it starts I will make the random generator route to find who gets which colour. You guys will get a few extra hours as I will start it Wednesday afternoon instead of midnight, and also I will probably only count the first votes around 4-6 am EST on Sunday. This might happen in the first two or three weeks, but you'll never have less than three days in total - only I will have a little less than three days for the first few moves of mine. Edit: I will also take the long time to PM all the signed up participants about the starting date.

Since the majority of us are from America or Europe it would give three afternoon and evening worth of thinking for the majority of the participants. If it was KST it would break the afternoon/evening of EU players into half. Set the deadline whenever you like. The point was to give those times in KST or GMT to make it easy for players to know when that time is. For instance, I believe midnight in EST is 2pm KST, so players can simply check the clock in the top right on TL to see when that deadline is coming up.

If: - you are on the list, but have not received a PM. - not on the list, but want to sign up. - or just have any kind of questions. Just send a PM my way. Also if you have any questions, remarks, anything feel free to write here or in a PM. I can't promise to send out a private message at the time of the start too - one by one. But now you'll know when the starting time will be. To arms! Peace, out. Edit: Also guys, feel free to leave remarks in spoilers throughout the game. I would also encourage to leave questions to me in spoilers where they arise. If you do it later you will forget it, and this way I will be able to come back, read it all once the game is over and reply everything in due order. I will also probably make a new post to post an in depth analysis of the game once it's over. I could probably answer all the questions there easily as well. I'm sure I will remind you about this later as well, I think it's important.
