Also D3 lacks chat, pvp, etc. whatever, I do not expect blizzard to step up in game making, guys like makers of PoE get it. They are after the maximum money. But I understand some players like D3. If you have played D2, it's hard to find a point, some ppl prefer more simple or this or that way, whatever. To me D3 could have been amazing, but it's not, it's too simple. Not enough depth. This hurts my head: If you need those items to customize, doesnt that mean items dictate your build? Again: You dont want to be efficient. Just customize your character Diablo 3 has a chat. Diablo 2 has alot of item shops

items are an extra layer to customize yo

I understand that you don't mind that you don't get to customize your character skills with values, pick the amount of skills, and pick character stats, + items, but I do. Then general itemization matters. D2 isn't perfect, for example the strongest items are too strong. Some skills are too weak for PvM in hell. It could be better, that's what I want from a next gen ARPG and I didn't find it in D3. Also I didn't find in D3 what it was advertised to be, with flat difficulty in inferno and pvp. I know some stuff changed in expansion but I don't want to buy an expansion for it.

So you litarally have to compare Diablo 2 release version with diablo 3 release since you dont bother with the expansions

Welp, here is some justice for you. Investment analysts Cohen & Company are not happy with the Diablo Mobile announcement because it shows Blizzard is out of touch.
Research firm Cowen & Company said "Blizzard severely miscalculated how their fans would respond, which suggests they aren't in touch with their players as maybe they should be."
put this together with Uncle Mike leaving... and ... this ain't good.
I'm no longer "in Blizzard's corner" any longer though. I'm neutral. I was a "fan" and part of the cult following because the people who ran Blizzard deserved it... they earned it. With Morhaime, Metzen and Pardo all gone.. and Pardo taking a few key Blizzard employees with him... i'm treating Blizzard like any other entertainment software developer now.

Blizzard is out of touch? https://newzoo.com/insights/articles/global-games-market-reaches-137-9-billion-in-2018-mobile-games-take-half/. Since they have 1 mobile game, i guess they are out of touch. I hope he takes more Blizzard employees with him. Then they can develop games such as Hellgate London, Wildstar and all those other succesful games

if you read the next 2 sentences after the "out of touch" statement..
the hyothesis is they are "out of touch with their players"
the best customers... are the customers you already have. reaching out and finding new customers is expensive as hell.

Its not expensive as hell, thats why companies are shitting out those mobile games like diarrhea. Especially for a 100% clone game (Because people compared 5 seconds of gaming) developed a different company. Wait a second, if its developed by someone else, shouldnt people come to the conclusion that they are cooking something inhouse?
A little extra: Blizzard was crazy out of touch when they developed Overwatch and Hearthstone. We all know how much that fucked them up. Or RTS to MMO. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! I cant resist

Actually, players are totally fine with mobile games, if they're done right. Look at Hearthstone. It's great on mobile devices and very popular. Diablo has always been a PC franchise. Recently, the console ports of D3 showed that the game can work there, too. But mobile Diablo is a totally different beast. I think that there wouldn't have been an outrage, if Blizz had announced a mobile Diablo with that special Blizzard flavour, i.e. a greatly polished, somewhat unique experience. But they announced a Chinese clone of a clone of some bullshit. That's not what the people want.

ATVI closed today at $64.25 .... ATVI began 2018 at $64.25
in the history of ATVI do you know how many times the stock remained at the same price it started the year? 0. things are not good at Blizzard and they are not good at ATVI... why do you think Morhaime is gone?
wake up man. the blood has only begun to be spilled.

Well, the adressed the fundamental flaw of Overwatch way too late - and then they half-assed it: Overwatch gets annoying pretty quickly, because without a premade team, it's basically like playing the lottery. Role queueing and endorsements were nice additions, but the damage has been done. The stun meta also did its part, but most players don't play comp anyway. You have to take into consideration that most Overwatch buyers were casual players. Those don't stay too long in any game. 2016 it was Overwatch, 2017 PUBG, 2018 it's Fortnite:BR.
A story mode would have helped immensely, but Blizz stated from the very beginning that they won't do that. PvE in general is a good way to keep the casual player base, just look at SC2's coop mode. Overall, Overwatch had the potential to be a groundbreaking game. That didn't work out, but it's a very good product (with major flaws), nonetheless.

if Blizzard falls below 32 million MAUs and the declining revenue that goes with that ... look for layoffs. With uncle mike gone i'm pretty sure there are plenty of Blizzard employees that are sharpening up their job interview skills.
its great that Overwatch made a billion dollars in 10 months.. but that was a year and a half ago. it just got humble bundled.

I'm cautiously optimistic for Diablo Immortal. I know plenty of people who would never touch a PC game that would try Diablo Immortal (If its F2P).
It's also surprising that people don't realize this, but Blizzard has always tried to target the casual market. It's hard to think that today when they have so many hardcore players playing their games, but every version of their games have been casual. Examples, AOE2 vs starcraft, TF2 vs Overwatch, Neverwinter nights/baldurs gate vs diablo, Everquest vs WoW. This has always been Blizzard's strategy and they are very good at it.
If Diablo Immortal flops, it'll be because its a bad game, not because their hardcore players don't want it.

I don't think its wrong for them to do a D3 Mobile game, it was however idiotic to announce it at Blizzcon, the audience there are hardcore gamers/fans & journalists. The D3 mobile game is not made for them (even the journalists who cater to more hardcore gamers). Should have just announced it on the side at not-Blizzcon and not made it as if we are getting D4 or another expansion or something like that.
Its quite possible that D3 Mobile will be quite succesful (although it wil be hard, the mobile gaming category is very competive and I am not sure how well its monotization & hook/addiction model works). Its them expanding to a new market (with extreme high potential), I don't think its a bad business decision. IIRC the top 20 playstation games put together don''t make as much revenue as Clash of Clans/Royale (whatever it is) for Supercell. Obviously that is the 1% but its not a terrible idea.
But don''t fucking announce it at blizzcon, you know hardcore gamers hate that shit and thats all you have at blizzcon.

Some completely random number right there. OW is not hemorrhaging. They lost the casuals that play the currently hottest game. Now they are left with their actual dedicated playerbase. Numbers will still go down, because that is the nature of the business, but it will be at much slower pace. Diablo Immortal will probably do extremely well in the asian market. After that Blizzard will release D4, it will probably be good and will sell well. I wouldn't worry about them.

It is a bit weird though when your own stance on a mobile Diablo is considering such a thing a joke just 4 years prior. For people who don't know, this is what red shirt guy at Blizzcon was referring to: us.diablo3.com

"Many of us over the last few years have shifted from playing primarily desktop to playing many hours on mobile. We have many of our best developers now working on new mobile titles across all of our IPs."
More mobile titles in the future. Also transforming Diablo in a family friendly IP. Mike Morhaime knew when to quit.
