How Square has fallen since FFX..... not low since ff12 and 13 was great

While not as strict like the rumored 'fatigue' system, there's still some kind of limitation on FFXIV. Unless I read it wrong....

16hours a week of leveling. After 8 hours you gain less exp, till 16 hour in which you gain 0 exp from lvling off mobs? This sucks. Not gonna play shit shit if this doesn't change.

Can't wait for open beta to start, so pumped for this mmo as I find the current selection of mmos rather weak, and believe me I've tried a shitton of them. Anyway this will probably entertain 'till Guild Wars 2.

Ain't that the truth, looks like its going to blow everything out the water.
PCG has a nice fishing piece on FF, seems it actually stays beautiful in game. http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/08/26/my-hopes-for-a-peaceful-life-in-final-fantasy-xiv/

Yeah...I'm not playing a "one hour a day" game. Actually,a "seven hour a week" deal would be acceptable, but not this.

I joined CBT in phase 1, and TBH, it's kind of a let down. They've been fixing a lot of problems over the course of beta, but it just feels clunky as hell and they're doing some weird stuff. Like there was a 30 FPS cap until phase 3 of CBT. Thing is, they never explicitly said there WAS a cap, and people just assumed the game ran horribly on all hardware. Now they've removed it, but it still runs like piss relative to any PC's specs. It's like the game just isn't able to efficiently make use of the available hardware. People are saying it's temporary code in the game put in place for monitoring purposes during beta that will be gone when the game goes live - and I can see the desire to do that and how it might cause perf hits to be incurred - but even if that's the case, there's SO much of a degradation in game play from said "extra debugging code" that players whose PCs lie across a very wide gamut of specs are able to unanimously report horrendous slowdowns in even the most benign situations in-game.
I feel that SE's blowing at communicating with their players is killing a lot of the hype for so many of the players - even the ones (myself included) who're admittedly trying really hard to enjoy it. There is a lot of confusion over some fairly important concepts and their devs/mods/important-forum-posters rarely reply to topics. The UI is slow as balls and it just feels like they designed it with only console input in mind. I can see a lot of really irksome things like the camera controls being changed easily, but it's still scary to think they'd even consider some of the shit that was going on in phases 1 and 2, especially with all the other mmos that have preceded this game, there are things I just cannot fathom developers not having learned yet.
Because of this uncertainty, I am on the fence about getting this when it goes live, but we'll see how open beta goes.

Yeah..open beta is coming on the 31st supposedly, so waiting for that myself too. But most likely just going to buy it and see if i like it. I often find it hard to try a game out to the fullest in a beta because 1. i know its a beta so i dont want to spend too much time on a beta, and 2. i know its a beta and hope there are improvements before launch.

Lol, how square has fallen since X? more like VII, get with the time newbies . Square has been shit for a long ass time. Unless you're like 16 and dont know the older games. That said I'll keep an eye out for this to see how the system works!

I really hope they do a much better job with this one than the last online installment they did. Last time around it was basically a halfway decent mmo with chocobos in it. I really hope square can start living up to the way they used to do things, if they start living up to their potential they might take a chunk out of the WoW market.

I recently quit WoW and am thinking of starting up a new MMO when the next generation of them are released 'soon". I don't really want to play Cataclysm because WoW has been such a time-drainer for me in the past (although very fun) and the other 3 all look promising. Which new game interests you the most?

I've been testing this game longer than most, I got into the alpha and all I am allowed to say is "It's awful" Nothing works, and I mean nothing. Not only technical stuff but ingame things doesn't make sense. Sometimes you could kill a mob without taking a hit, sometimes the exact same mob would ravage you. It's so badly broken, how they possibly expect it to be out this year is beyond me.

I think any MMO poll tucked away on page 16 of a FFXIV thread is going to be a wee bit skewed.
However, I'd sadly have to go with Cataclysm.
FFXIV doesn't appear to have fixed enough of the problems deriving from XI. Guild Wars just does not appeal to me. The only reason I even bother to keep looking at the development of SW:TOR is because Bioware is in on it, yet it continues to look uninspiring. Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online hasn't been soiled for me, but there's nothing released to even be unimpressed with. So that leaves Cataclysm, and WoW died for me a long, long time ago.

We'll see, Open beta remains, as well as a release on the PS3 in march 2011. What I'm saying is that we can expect a lot of updates for this game since apparently they're putting a lot of effort into it. Also a renowned company as Square is sure to not let this title fall behind because of irregular fixes.
